Is it best to have separate wires to each rear surround speaker?, or can I use a 4 wire cable and separate the wire cable in the ceiling crawl space going to each speaker? One 4 wire cable would be easier to put through the wall, than two separate 2 wire cable. It would be about 35 feet long speaker wire. Can I use 16 Gage wire or is 14 Gage better?
Thanks for your help,

BEST ANSWER: You certainly could use this to run to the 2 rear speakers (I use them to run bi-amped signals to my Left and Right speakers- each gets its own 4-conductor wire)- I would add a junction box and do the splice for the wires to each speaker in the junction box (if something happens and the splice is broken, it will be easier if you don't have to find it in the wall somewhere). The lower the gauge, the thicker the wire- thicker wire is will deliver higher power from your amps with less distortion (particularly in the higher ranges). But it also depends on the impedance of your speakers: typically 4 or 6 ohm (low- impedance) speakers need thicker wire (12 or 14 AWG) whereas 8 or 16 ohm speakers would probably be just fine with 16 AWG. (you only really run into impedance issues related to distance when you get over 100 ft.).

14 gauge is recommended for a 40 foot run without signal loss, so I'd go 14 gauge. You run a risk of bleed over using a 4-core cable, but I think it would be really low risk. Also, very unlikely that there's strong signal separation in your receiver for left-rear and right-rear, so the 4 conductor stuff should be fine

If you have multiple speakers it would be easier to wire 4 together and run it through the wall or where ever your setup is and cleaner. Doing this will make them a 2ohm load though, so an amp capable of the stable load would be best in my opinion.

Absolutely you can. Custom installers do it all the time. Just be super careful not to nick the wires when you open the jacket

Does it make a difference which colors I use for positive and which I use for negative on 16/4 speaker cable?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. It would not matter what color you use. They are color coded so you can know which is which. You just want to be sure if you use lets say, white for positive and green for negative that you keep it the same on the other end. I hope this helps.

Does the job
Used to wire the loudspeakers in a home theater setup where I may or may not cover the wire with plastic conduit, so wanted the wire to be inconspicuous against a white ceiling. It works well and is quite flexible, which is generally good, but means it has to be supported every foot or so to keep it from sagging. The wire itself seems to be of good quality, and tinned easily.

Great Inwall Wire
What's to say - it was less expensive and high quality. I'd use it again.
