Hi - I am enjoying the printer so far, but am curious about the platform sticker...They obviously don't last forever and I've almost in need of a third. Since the packaging came with one spare I assume that these are available for purchase? If not, do you have a recommendation as to what I should do for the platform after I have used the last adhesive sticker? The manual and other materials do not address this. Thank you.

Check Amazon for magnetic sheets. There's a lot to choose from. Just cut the small sheet to the size you need. Some sheets are 4x6

I am looking on Amazon for PL a filament and there are a lot of options! Should I buy spooled filament or is a less expensive variety pack that is not spooled sufficient?
New User U
on Dec 12, 2020
I would purchase the spooled filament in the colors you need. The variety pack is for experimentation only and may not provide enough filament to complete a project.. I current use Black, ivory and Blue which I believe is sufficient for my needs.

Definitely get spooled. The variety packs are, per meter, not less expensive and can sometimes tangle or snarl. Plus, you sometimes will want to print an item that requires more filament than a single variety sample.

how to slice?
A shopper
on Apr 11, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Use Cura 4.3.0 program that is supplied with the printer. The software is optimized for the Cadet 3D Printer. Insert your .stl file into the print area, adjust any printing parameters and then click the slice box in the lower right hand corner of the software. This will produce a gcode file that you use for 3D printing

The printer should have come with a USB drive that has CURA on it. That version has the MP Cadet as the default printer. If you don't have that drive you should be able to download CURA and setup the MP Cadet and slice it with that.

Can you print your own designs? If so how (what is needed)?
Pete
on Jul 16, 2020
BEST ANSWER: You can definitely print your own designs. I've created several projects in SketchUp (just Google the free version of it) and export the design in .stl format. Take that .stl file and open it using the Wiibuilder software that came with the Cadet. Use that software to export a .gcode file which you can put in a micro-SD card for the Cadet to print. It's actually really easy.

Yes, as long as your design software can export an STL or any other Cura acceptable format it will work. You'll first export your file as an STL and then use the Cura distributed by Monoprice to slice the file. This will produce G-Code which you save onto the mini-sd card and insert it into the printer.

Can this be used with metal filled filament?

How do I upload more prints to my SD card?
A shopper
on Jun 19, 2022
BEST ANSWER: My Cadet shipped with a little USB fob for reading/writing the microsd card. It's a good thing because wireless does NOT WORK on this machine so sneakerNet is the only alternative to a long USB data cable.
The device basically makes your sdcard an external disk drive you plug into a USB port (which it is). Mine didn't last very long. It got really hot and burnt out. Bought a much nicer one at Best Buy
You have to watch the filenames though. The Cadet's screen has no (obvious) way of horizontal scrolling so if you have many prints stored on the sdcard, make sure you can distinguish the one you want from the frist 12 chararacters or so

On a PC, get the program Cura. If you don't have a model to print, download a model from Thingiverse or make one yourself in TinkerCAD. Open it in Cura and have Cura slice it. Place the SD card in the included USB adapter and put it in your computer. Cura will help you save the gcode file to the SD card, and even help you eject it. Remove the SD card from the USB adapter and insert it in the Cadet.

BEST ANSWER: Cadet may have corrupt settings for serial communication. You can find a Restore Defaults option on the machine menu. Try that. Worked for me!

I am buying this as a gift and want my nephew to be able to experiment with it right away. Does it need anything more than filament? Can you recommend filament that would work well with this printer?
A shopper
on May 18, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Any PLA Filament will work. The problem is the spool holder attached to the printer is very small and will not hold a standard size roll. Buy a stand alone spool holder on Amazon and some filament. Then your Nephew will be all set. Any filament will work. no need for anything expensive. Just dont buy ABS. Get PLA. ABS plastic is for a heated bed which this printer does not have.

Having a rough start
It needs software that recognizes for maths other than Gcode. File conversion from other files to Gcode is limited and difficult To find. Bed is quite small although I didn't expect much from the mini.

Easy to install and use!
It arrived pretty promptly and it was very easy to set up and use. I haven?t read the manual, but the start guide was good enough to get a print going the same day with some loaded files on the card they provide and the sample filament. I was able to print the dragon and cat and still have some filament left over.

Great value
This has been a great way to learn about 3D printing without spending too much. Needed to download a Monoprice version of Cura for Mac to get everything to work. Currently printing parts for a model of the Discovery 1 spaceship from 2001 (half size, since print volume is relatively low.

Functional, but not as user friendly as advertised
Pros:
1.Enclosure makes it look less intimidating and the print is less likely to be disturbed while in progress.
2. Cheap enough (when on sale) that I dont feel bad about breaking it and messing around.
Cons:
1.The only slicer that I could find that works with it as easily as it should(according to marketing) is WiiBuilder2.
2.The metal shield in front of the hot end makes maintenance a pain. Considering cutting it off most of it and just leaving the bit that triggers the z-stop.
3.Complete pain to find parts for. I enjoyed the hunt, frustrating as it was, but someone that wanted to buy this for their kids/grandkids with the expectation that it would work forever right out of the box would be very disappointed. Research shows that it is compatible with MK8 heat break throat and uses MK7/8 aluminum heating blocks. I wish MP would provide a parts list with it or somewhere on the website under support for this product..
4. Semi-obscure parts. This is the same as the Weedo Tina 2 printer, as evidenced by the one board, so that pointed me in the right direction to find replacement parts.
RECOMMENDATION: If this is supposed to be a "beginner" printer, I wish it came with a maintenance guide. Just a 50-page book with pictures on how to disassemble and conduct basic fixes would be a HUGE value add for someone that wants this as a TRUE beginner printer for kids.

complicated and not supposed on Macs
The Manual says it supports STL files. I put all my STL files on the SD card. and cannot read any of them!
Are you kidding me with the WiFi? I have to download another app, and give it Location access?! How dos the app communicates with the pinter?
if you have a Mac, don't even bother. They supply only the Cure software which does n to run on my iMac. Just exits without any errors!
I will return this brick.

Best investment!
I would definitely recommend this one to anyone thinking about getting a 3d printer. It works wonderfully and easy to operate.

I got this as a birthday present for my husband and he absolutely loves it! It turned out great!

Great little printer
I bought the Cadet for my six year old grandson's birthday. I am always 3d printing things for him that I design with his ideas. Before his birthday we designed legos byway of OnShape sharing feature. On his birthday I had it setup printing his lego design inside a wrapped box with no bottom. He was so excited to get his legos. Then I told him how to print from the SD card and he picked the dragon. He absolutely loves it. Between the 2 of us we have printed many things and everyone of the prints have been perfect. The print quality is top notch. The build area is fairly small but adequate for a 6 year old and most other people. I have a 3-1/2 year old grandson that might be getting one for Christmas.
