BEST ANSWER: It is a power switch. It is really handy if I want to hard reboot everything that is attached to the power strip.

I’m pretty sure it’s a power switch. That’s how I have used it.

what are the measurements on this?

BEST ANSWER: The spec sheet for this rack mount power strip, with measurements, is here, https://downloads.monoprice.com/files/specsheets/40002_Specsheet_211014.pdf?
The unit fits a standard 19" rack mount, so it is 19" wide. It is 1U tall which is 1-3/4", and it is 3-1/2" deep. (The height of rack mount instruments and cabinets are measured in "U" units, and one "U" is 1-/34" tall. Enter 19-inch rack at Wikipedia).
The unit can be used with ears unscrewed from the sides or with them facing to other direction. The ears are each 1" wide, so without the ears the unit is 17" wide, but actually wider as the screw heads take up about 0.085" on each side, making it 17.17" overall width.
The power switch is a 15A circuit breaker. There is also a "Power" light and a "Surge" light.
The surge protection of this unit is only 1050 Joules, which does not offer much absorption from surges, and is minimal for use with sound or computer equipment. If you're concerned with this you might want to plug this into a surge protector with at least twice this rating. BUT please understand that surge protectors do not last a very long time, anywhere from two to five years on average. The more surges it absorbs, the shorter it's life, and a big surge can stop it's protection immediately. However, they will continue to function as normal power strips even after they no longer offer protection against power fluctuations, which gives a false sense of security.

If you scroll down to the bottom of the "Description" tab, under the "Support Files:" there is a link to the Specification Sheet that lists all the dimensions in mm. This unit is one Rack Unit (1RU) high and 19" wide.

Can the mounting "ears" be removed? If so, what is the width of the unit without them?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
There are four screws that hold the ears in place that can be removed.
Unfortunately we would not have a the size of this item without the ears.

So I purchased it to find out if it would work for me inside an 18 inch wide home AV cabinet, and it does, as the width with mounting ears and screws removed is only 17 1/32 inches. The width with the screws is 17 3/16".
I'll also note that the mounting ears can be reversed and attached facing to the rear of the PDU, enabling it to be installed in a rack with the AC line cord outside the rack and the switch and LEDs inside.
Initial impression is positive overall. Appears to be very well made.

Can the mounting brackets be rotated 90 degrees and/or are there alternate mounting brackets included to flush mount this under a desk such that all of the front and rear outlets remain unblocked and usable?

BEST ANSWER: One of the images shows a side view with the screws in a rectangular arrangement, not square, so out of the box seemingly not.
I suspect it has two covered tapped holes in the case underneath the ears, to allow it to be mounted in "reverse", to have the cord come from the "front", in which case you could probably drill extra holes in the ears to match those in an "under desk" orientation.
Alternatively, you can look for a wall mount "90 degree" rack (2-4U) and mount that on the underside of your desk, which can then hold routers, modems, switches, in one place, especially if they have ears.

Should the green light for surge be lit up/illuminated? Does light on mean "protected" or does the light being on mean there's a problem?

BEST ANSWER: A green LED on indicates that the unit is on and is providing surge protection. If the green LED is off, there may still be power to the outlets, but there is no surge protection.

awesome on my tech bench/desk
My computer stuff and a switch and two studio monitors and a tube microphone power supply all plugged into the back and bonus I have easily reachable outlets on the front for plugging in equipment as it crosses my workspace. Sweet. Switch has no physical protection and turns off with a slight touch. The ONLY drawback.

Brilliant at sale price.
Excellent & well made power bar. At the 1/2 price sale it's a ridiculouslous bargain. Similar items on Amazon are 3 times the price & not as flexible.
