I don't know why it took me so long to buy one of these. This allowed me to quickly identify a single broken wire in an old CAT5 run and re-wire to allow at least 100Mbps transmission (instead of gigabit) instead of just having a dead wire. Works great.
Lots of ethernet in my home studio. Needed tester to verify wiring. Found open data line into one room. Now I have to replace that line. House was pre-wired when built. Also found another spare cable had data pairs reversed from one end to the other. Im using this tester on every ethernet cable that I use before installing those cables.
