Does the Toslink optical cable come with the unit? I have seen different answers to this question. What are the AC power requirements? Thanks
A shopper

BEST ANSWER: It does come with a toslink cable - it is quite thin though. I have not tried this cable since I already had one in my setup. The device comes with a USB A to micro cable for charging the unit (it has a built-in battery), but it does not come with a USB wall adapter. Also in the box is a 6" cable with a 3.5mm stereo headphone plug on each end and a short RCA L/R to 3.5mm stereo jack cable.

It does come with an optical cable which kind of surprised me. It's not particular long or great quality, but it's in there. Not sure of specific power requirements, but I have it plugged into the USB port on the TV and that works fine. For what it's worth, the bottom of the unit says 5V 350mA. Hope that helps.

on Oct 21, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes it does.
Because of my television setup, I found it easier to just leave it plugged in all of the time instead of periodically charging it. I realize that leaving it plugged in may not be the best solution in terms of longevity, but it's been over 10 months now and it is still going strong.
I really love the product and it works as described.

BEST ANSWER: Most AV receivers have a phones jack which is a standard 1/4" plug for stereo headphones. The BT transmitter has a a 3.5mm aux audio input and includes a 3.5mm cable that has connectors on both end. The 3.5mm plug will need to be placed in the BT transmitter and the other end will need to go into a 1/4" plug adapter that will go into the AV receiver. I use the my Onkyo receiver as the source and connected to the box with a SPDIF cable. You could also use headphone audio cables to connect to the AUX input of this box. By connecting from SPDIF out on my Onkyo - anything that the Onkyo is outputting to its speakers is also output thru bluetooth. It works very well and sounds good. I do think there is a slight delay in the audio.

we routinely switch between a single BT speaker and a pair of headphones w/o problems. The reset is automatic or the result of having turned off both headsets before putting them away thereby enabling this units search function maybe. While I am using this device as a receiver, my understanding of the instructions is this unit can be used to transmit to a Bluetooth speaker. There is a transmit/receive switch on the side of the unit which can be seen in one of the pictures. This unit will not receive a Bluetooth signal from a phone and concurrently transmit to a Bluetooth speaker--it will transmit a signal or receive a signal, one or the other.

Can it work with a Powered subwoofer?
A shopper
on Dec 30, 2022
BEST ANSWER: I use mine to operate a portable Bluetooth speaker from my AVR. There is a noticable audio delay when the Bluetooth speaker is in the same room as the main AVR speakers. I would expect this latency issue might be a problem and the sound from the subwoofer would lag slightly behind the main speakers. Perhaps low latency devices might have less delay, but my JBL portable speaker does have a noticeable delay.

If the powered subwoofer is bluetooth capable then it can receive the signal from transmitter but low latency is not no latency and if your other speakers are wired, or have a different BT latency than that of this transmitter, the sound is going to be out of phase.

Can 2 headphones connect at same time?

BEST ANSWER: Yes. With the Monoprice Bluetooth Transmitter and Receiver in transmit (TX) mode it is possible to connect 2 headphones at the same time. (possibly more than 2, but I haven't tried that). The procedure for doing this is in the User's Manual.

What would it take to run this directly off of a 12v power supply?

You would have to use the Micro B USB port to connect this to power but if you have a 12V USB power supply it would only need 1A of power to power this device.

Those of us that want to add permanent Bluetooth to our stereos without having the extra step of turning on a receiver would love to see Monoprice add a receiver that can be plugged in and stay on all the time.

I would assume yes. That is what this is for. The caveat would be that your car needs to support the Bluetooth formats this transmits. Generally it's backwards compatible but some cars have weird BT setups so it's possible it wouldn't work. But I would bet it works in most cars.

The description says it’s a transmitter and receiver. If I’m streaming from my phone to the device I need the aux jack to output the audio to go to my wired speakers however if I’m using the device as a transmitter to Bluetooth headphones I need the aux jack to be an input.

I have a TV with no BT feature. I want to connect this to my TV and have the audio stream to a Harman Kadon SB20 speaker. Will it work?
Ashish S
on Dec 17, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This has inputs of S/Pdif (optical) or Aux (stereo mini-plug). It will then transmit via Bluetooth to whatever you pair it with, 1 or 2 devices. So if your TV has an optical or aux output and your SB20 will pair with this it should work. BUT the real questions is WHY. If your tv has those connections just wire them straight to the soundbar. Better yet if your tv has a Hdmi(ARC) use that for the best sound. I am using this for a pair of wireless headphones and it works great for that.

BEST ANSWER: My sense is that this device will not appreciably increase volume on your headphones. A suggestion: use a headphone amp to enable this. There are very good headphone amps on Monoprice using the search feature. A headphone amp will not only increase volume, but will also allow selective boosting of frequencies that best meet your hearing profile. All the best!

No, the volume limit is determined by your headphones. These would only let you control that volume from another source. Which is probably not useful.

So good I purchased another.
The one I bought a year ago worked so well, I bought another for an additional location.
Unlike different brands I've tried in the past, these Monoprice units stay paired.

So far, so good. I've hooked this up to an old 70's Pioneer SX-1250 using a 3.5mm to twin RCA cable. So nice to not have to get up from bed to retrieve my phone when I'm done listening. It's definitely worth the small investment.

Analog Aux connection broken - only transmits\receives one channel
Sound and latency performance were decent when it worked. After a year the cheap mini-stereo connection only sends\receives left channel, no matter the configuration. Digital connections still function. One-year Warranty is too short.

Great product overall.
Works well. There is a delay in processing analog audio to digital Bluetooth signal (which seems common for all such devices that I have tried) This is noticeable with close scrutiny, but not terrible when using analog output from the TV to the monoprice Bluetooth transmitter sending signal to Bluetooth headphones or speaker System.
However, using the Optical SPDIF input directly from a gaming system or tv there is no audio lag to the connected Bluetooth device, I'm guessing because the digital signal pases straight through with no analog to digital (Bluetooth) conversion. Somehow I hope that manufacturers can come up with better ways to connect cables to devices in general, it's such a nice looking compact device but then attached cables and sticking out everywhere so it makes the device take up a lot more space than it should?but I don't expect that's really possible.
