Yes. I suspect there is a minimal charge that is required before you can use it, but after there you should be good to go. I tend to leave mine plugged into a USB charger at all times.

Can this be used to listen to computer audio through my bluetooth headphones?
Invzibl
on Jan 15, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The short answer is 'yes'. You would patch it to the computer with a 1/8" (3.5mm 'Aux') cable and set the unit to TX (because it's transmitting to your phone) and AUX (because that would be the source, as opposed to SPDIF digital audio....unless your computer happens to have an SPDIF output, I guess).
Perhaps somewhat more useful answer: if your source is a computer and doesn't already have a Bluetooth radio (modern laptops should, admittedly most desktops probably won't) you would probably be better served by using a USB Bluetooth dongle, examples being Monoprice product numbers 17059 and 37483. That way you're directly patched to the machine without an analog connection in between.

First find out if your computer has Bluetooth feature. If it has, you do not need any Bluetooth transmitter, your computer transmits Bluetooth signal by itself (just have it turned on). If your computer does not have Bluetooth, then this device will work very well. Virtually definitely your computer can emit sound and has sound (audio) out port (outlet). Connect this device to that audio out port, pair your Bluetooth headphones with this device, and you will be able to listen your computer audio not through computer speakers, but through your Bluetooth headphones.

Assuming that you would be using this transmitter/receiver unit in the transmit mode (connected to the TV with either the included optical cable or aux cable), you should be able to connect both headphones and the soundbar to this unit via bluetooth simultaneously. I haven't tried this, but the manual that comes with the unit indicates that 2 devices can be paired and connected simultaneously.

Not trying to pair a second item, but need to know if the two optical cables provide pass through to an external sound bad along with transmitting bluetooth.. my current bluetooth 4 transmitter does.
Unfortunately, I don't have any devices with an optical input, so I can't test this. This transmitter/receiver has separate optical input, and outputs, but I can't tell if the output is active when the unit is in transmit mode. Maybe someone with a soundbar or other device with optical input can test this and verify?
This sounds like more a function of the soundbar. If it can output an audio signal to the bluetooth transmitter, and continue to output audio out the speaker, then you're all set. Alternatively, if you can get audio to the bluetooth transmitter and to the soundbar, from the TV or an A/V receiver, you can do it.

Does the 3.5mm jack support the microphone function, on a set of wired-headphones?

on Jun 10, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I don't think so. Supporting both headphones and a microphone would require the unit to operate in both transmit (for the mic) and receive (for the headphones) modes simultaneously. This unit can operate only as a transmitter or receiver, as selected by a switch. Additionally, the specs say that the 3.5mm jack supports a stereo connection (which is 3 conductor TRS), while your headphone/microphone set would need to be plugged into a 4 conductor TRRS jack.

I would assume yes. That is what this is for. The caveat would be that your car needs to support the Bluetooth formats this transmits. Generally it's backwards compatible but some cars have weird BT setups so it's possible it wouldn't work. But I would bet it works in most cars.

I don't think so. There's no user interface, so it looks like there's no way to select the device to be paired. When pairing in transmit mode, the receiving device needs a user interface to allow for device selection. When pairing in receive mode, the transmitting device needs a user interface to select the transmitting device. I haven't tested this, but I don't think there's any sort of automatic pairing between two of these units.

Dave, If you are trying to to connect the units wirelessly, then yes it is not possible. However I have succesfully paired two units ( a 38071 & 38070) with the 1/8" cable, switched one to TX the other to RX and made what amounted to a Bluetooth repeater. Range is the standard 30' when paired with a computer (its range is only 10'). I also did a test (with a sterio system headphone jack as source) using the 38071 as TX and the 38070 RX and found that the range extended to about 50'. Gene

Can two of these Monoprice Transmitters be used on a single TV - one from optical cable and one from jack or use a spliter with two jacks from the TV creating two inputs from TV to the two Monoprice and allow using 4 blue tooth headphones to be used simultaneously (two headphones from each Monoprice - total 4 head sets) for listening to TV?
A shopper
on Mar 6, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I don't own 2 of these transmitters so I can't run a test but theoretically yes your example sounds plausible. I have a 3.5mm audio spliter cable (Male to 2 female) and 2 3.5mm extension cables (male to male) that I bought from Monoprice . I plug into my TV audio jack and one spliter runs to the Bluetooth transmitter and the other to a 3 speaker audio speakers. And it works fine. There is a 10th of a second delay on the mobile Bluetooth speaker that I can place in another room when I am away from the TV but the delay is minor. So I can see your set up working. I have had 2 mobile speakers receiving the Bluetooth signal simultaneously so I believe 4 can work.

This answer only applies to using it as a transmitter. There is no way of controlling what it connects to. The control seems to depend on the device your using as a receiver. Bluetooth receivers, like headphones, seem to remember what they were last paired with and seem to connect automatically. when they are turned on.

Can I make my rear surround speakers wireless using this product?
donald d
on Feb 16, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Hi. Only if they are self-powered and you wouldn't get sound out of the front speakers.. The device receives audio signal from a Bluetooth transmitting device like a smartphone and outputs a line level signal (that expected by all inputs of your surround receiver, save digital - HDMI, SPDiF, optical, or phono ins). Best of luck.

Probably not because of lag time. The rear speakers would be out of sync.

Can this be used to add Bluetooth capability to a vehicle's factory audio system by leaving it connected to power and AUX on the vehicle? I plan on using it for phone calls and audio streaming from my phone while driving.

This could be used for that purpose.
Keep in mind this item does not have a mic built in so it may not work for phone calls.

BEST ANSWER: The Nintendo Switch should be able to pair directly to Bose QC35 II headphones. You should not need any additional product(s) to do this. You won't need this item.
I'd recommend you google "nintendo switch bluetooth" and find a good article or instructions to follow.

Bluetooth Transmitter/reciever
I like this device. I have this connected to a two channel stereo receiver that sits inside a cabinet in my kitchen. I ran speaker wire out the wall to connect two rock speakers and use this device to stream music from my phone. It has decent range although it is less than 30 feet, but it is sending signals through the walls in my house. No interference. Connects every time with very minimal effort. Highly recommend.

Great Addition to Home Theater System
This added Bluetooth headphone capability to my home theater. Now I can watch the big screen while others go to bed. I did have to get the right 3.5mm to phono plug adapter. The first one I tried did not connect the headphones in stereo.

Works as expected
This is my 2nd one. The first, purchased in 2019 and used for converting high db reduction ear protection to stream tunes while mowing, is still working well. But as I use it a lot I wanted a backup unit in case the battery craps out.
I've purchased several other item from Monoprice and generally been very satisfied.
The only item that didn't meet my expectations was a USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter but I never found a good one of them elsewhere either.

Works as it should
I have no app to control the pairing of this but it will pair with Bluetooth earbuds automatically with a little effort. I use it as an optical S/PDIF port non variable volume transmitter for my Sony Bravia. Works fine.

This works better than the much more costly device I returned to Crutchfield. Sound is very good and connectivity is simple.
