Do you need external speakers for this monitor for sound?
A shopper
on Dec 1, 2020
BEST ANSWER: You do need external speakers since it is only a monitor. I would say I am very very satisfied with the monitor itself. Although meant for gaming, it is a great work productivity booster since you can have several documents visible on the screen at one time. Great resolution, beautiful images too.

No; however the built-in speakers are not the best. The sound quality reminds me of a portable transistor AM radio from the 70’s (seriously). They don’t project toward the front. To adjust the volume you have to go into the OSD menu.

There are both PIP and side-by-side input options. It's a bit cumbersome to enable, so don't expect to be doing it on the fly or anything. The headphone jack can also be routed to ether of the inputs being displayed.

I messaged staff with "I purchased the Monoprice Zero-G 1440p Ultrawide gaming monitor and have been testing it out the last few days. Looking through the settings, there is one called "Response Time" with the selectable options of 'Off', 'High', 'Middle', and 'Low'. What do each of these options correspond to? Does 'High' mean a High response time, or does it mean that the 'decrease response time' setting is turned up to its highest option? The specs mention a response time of '8ms (4ms OD)', so which setting should I use for the 4ms response time? Or is this something that only applies to the previous model that allowed you to modify the 'Overdrive' settings?"
They said "That's a very good inquiry. You are absolutely correct on the response time (Off, High, Middle, Low) these are the adjustment time response for the picture quality settings. The 8ms is the manufacturer respond time set while the 4ms OD is what they called ghost pixel respond time which most commonly called max response rate.
Pixel response time is a visual fidelity spec and applies just as much when you're watching a movie as when you're playing a game. "

There is an audio out but no USB to power a set of speakers. I’m thinking of simply getting a Bluetooth speaker dedicated for my laptop but then it still doesn’t solve the need of a mic when I’m on conference calls.
I’m just using a headset for conf calls. For music and other sounds, I’m connecting to a sound bar from laptop.
But a wired set of speakers would work just fine I think.

BEST ANSWER: Thanks for reaching out, that's a fantastic question! We’ve gathered a lot of great feedback from both current and prospective customers such as yourself and we’re excited to say that our monitor category is one where you will begin to see increased support in the form of higher quality (and performance) products and an expanded choice of options. Technology obviously changes fairly rapidly in a category like monitors but moving forward we also intend to provide more stability in our assortment so you can trust that we always have a product in stock that you and/or your business depends on.
What that means for this specific model, as well as our other 2019 monitors, is that our intended lifecycle for this product is at MINIMUM 1 year. While we can’t comment on exactly what the future will hold beyond that time frame what we will say is that any changes to this model would likely only be iterative, and that a 35-inch model should still live in our line-up as long as its commercially viable.
We hope this helps and thank you again for considering Monoprice!
P.S. Should you be in the market for any other types of monitors, I would encourage you to keep an eye out as we have some exciting products coming down the pipe!

P.S. Should you be in the market for any other types of monitors, I would encourage you to keep an eye out as we have some exciting products coming down the pipe!

BEST ANSWER: Yes, you will have to create a custom resolution + refresh rate, I was able to do this from the nvidia control panel.

Have the freesync issues been fixed on this monitor? I almost bought it but I read that Freesync can be unusable above 64fps

BEST ANSWER: Our 2nd gen 35in Zero-G monitor has been completely updated, built upon an entirely new platform, and has been certified by AMD with a compatible FreeSync operating range of 48-100Hz over both HDMI 2.0 and DP 1.2 inputs.
Since this model is so new we do not currently have the link available, but we will try to update this thread with the corresponding listing on AMD's website once their database has been updated!

Great monitor to use for wfh. Really cleans up my desk and lets me see two full windows at a time.

Awesome
I got this monitor on the black friday sale. It is easily the best bang for buck monitor I have ever gotten. The colors are bright and crisp and the whites are actually white which I enjoy. This monitor is also quite bright which I enjoy for gaming. Amazing buy!

Great for gaming A+
Great monitor so far, no issues at all. My GPU chokes up a bit trying to run it and my secondary display but given the resolution this thing has it’s expected. The arc is more impactful then I thought honestly, if you play any action like games (Overwatch and Apex are my games of choice) crank the FOV to Max and you can actually use the edge of the screen like your peripheral vision. Pair that with even basic surround audio (software based for me) and you just have superhuman awareness. If I had to ask for anything in this monitor it’d be better upscaling. It has an upscaling option built into its settings but it’s too simplistic and makes edges over sharpened and colors blend. Use your GPUs upscaling over this, if needed.

Turned my Surface Pro into a full-fledged desktop computer
I replaced my redoubtable 27-inch all-in-one desktop computer with a Surface Pro 7, a Surface Dock 2, and this monitor. Excellent move! The screen quality is excellent (after a little fiddling with the color and related settings). The footprint is as minimal as it appears in the photographs. (The only feature that doesn't appear in the photos is the glowing red "eyes" on the back of the monitor when it's powered up.) For the price point, this monitor is hard to beat.

Great monitor, though no onboard USB.
Great monitor, however it has zero USB built in hubs. I think it's pretty essential to making a clean desktop space.
Resolution is great.
Clarity is beautiful.
Blacks look black and colors are poppin'.

Fantastic monitor for the money
Recently got this as an upgrade from my 25" UWHD LG. I wasn't unhappy with it, but I wanted to get something larger/faster/better when I had the money and prices aligned.
I have to say, I wasn't sure about the curve, but now that I have, I can see why. It just seems right. Seems huge but when you are gaming on it, it's smooth and just feels right. After a little calibration, image quality is great. Don't keep it at stock. Also had to ensure Windows saw the screen with the refresh rate properly.
My only criticism as of right now is that I need a new desk and have to be a little more picky to make sure the desk can fit the screen. That and I now want a new GPU to push this further.

One word sums up my experience. Awesome !
Hello, My first wide screen monitor. When the screen is full it's great. 4k demo video in wide screen format were awesome. Some item do not fill screen so that sucks.
