Whats the size of the hole that needs to be cut in the drywall for this wall plate?
A shopper
on Mar 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This wall plate will require the use of a 1 gang low voltage wall bracket, such as PID 7013. So you would cut to the specifications of the 7013.

What's the max amperage? Is the whole connector conductive? I am looking for something to use for a home lab (low dc) that looks good and won't risk zapping me.

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
There would not have a limit on the amount of amperage that can pass through it, only the metal parts on this wall plate would be conductive.

I need to connect 4 speakers, 2 in the kitchen & 2 in the dining room. Currently, only the dining room speakers are being used because my A/V receiver is only 2 zone, with the main 5.1 in the living room. Would you recommend installing 2 of these or one of the similar product for 4 speakers?

There appears to be two open holes in the middle of the plate which are not being used in the picture. Would it be possible to add two RCA jacks (for routing to rear subwoofers) such that the final product handles 4 speakers and 2 subs in one gang? All the plates I've seen here that include RCA jacks for subs are 2 or even 3 gang wide.

BEST ANSWER: This wall plate doesn’t actually have any extra openings in the middle, so you would have to drill new holes, not ideal. I would instead recommend getting the same wall plate but for 5 speakers, as well as two keystone modular RCA jacks, unthread the extra speaker terminals, and replace them with the RCA terminals that come with the modular jacks. The end result will be exactly what you’re looking for.

Yes, that would be the ideal solution. I had hoped the connectors were removable/swappable with the modular RCA jacks but wasn't sure if that was true and hadn't seen any reference as to if that could be done with non-keystone plates. I can't wait to try 'em out!

Very poor post tolerances
Nice design. Perhaps the only wall plate I could find to support 4 speakers. But the tolerances between the binding post studs and nuts are so bad that the nuts cross-thread at any point on the stud or slip before tightening. I stole nuts from other wall plates I had lying around. It was really only usable with banana plugs even on the back side.

Wish I had found this years ago
Well-made, good-looking product. Improvement suggestion: LABELS! For those who don't have a label printer, this would eliminate the need to do something with a Sharpie. Would buy again for another installation.

Quality
Very nice Quality part. Well built. The gold plating should provide years of low resistance connections. Highly recommended

Great
Does what it's supposed to do; bought several more for spares - never know when I'll easily find these again. Recommended.

One More Pair of Connections Than I needed
I used this for my connection of Left, center and right front speakers in my home theater but it could be used for the front pair and two "presence" or Atmos speakers. I printed stickers for the wires and the cover plate itself and attached them all with clear packing tape. Makes a nice, neat and easy-to-read installation. Any future changes or movement for reasons like painting will be easy since connections are well identified and easy to connect or disconnect.

Works fine, but color-coding threads are flimsy
The wall plates work pretty well, and have decent separation between the binding posts. It's a bit odd that they aren't set up to put Left speakers on the left, and Right on the right, but that's easily fixed by just shifting the color-coded nuts around. Note that the color-coding threads are very flimsy. One of my plates arrived with two of the threads broken and fallen off. The good news is that they're easily swapped with some from the back plate, since you'll likely only attach to the back plate once, and can just be careful then.
PROS: Works well.
CONS: Color-coding threads are flimsy
