There are screw terminals for left/right speaker connections. The will only support about 18 gauge wire.

Does this amplifier install in a standard US double gang box?

I'm not positive whether it would or not, but probably not well - it comes with it's own special-size (square) gang box. It works well with that one.

Is this unit powered by common 110v wire, such as Romex? Or is it low voltage wiring?
New User U
on Nov 17, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This is powered by 110/120. There are screw terminals to attach line and neutral. The biggest gauge that fits is about 16 and it should be stranded as solid would make it hard to work with (and probably damage the terminals). Note: This whole setup does not technically meet code as it mixes high voltage power and low voltage speakers/signals in the same box.

Nope, absolutely no bezel. The cutout in the wall will be completely visible! It's a pretty lazy design for an "in-wall" application (You can DIY a bezel using a standard double light switch cover though and salvage your setup)

Noah V. did you use the decora style double gang switch plate and just cut the divider out of the middle? Any pics?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Not the decora style (rocker, or big switches), the smaller ones (toggle switches). The rocker bezels have screw holes that would show. I don't think Monoprice will allow pictures here (or direct links), but if you re-assemble these from ImgBB:

This does not answer my question. There are different types of FM antennas (300-ohm dipole, 75-ohm dipole, one-wire, etc.), all have different connection requirements that do not seem to match the pins supplied. Please provide a schematic or wire diagram of what is expected to be connected to the two pins marked "FM Ant" and "GND".

You need a thin dual antenna wire, and make a little drill in the wall case to let it out in front of the device

What type of connections are used for the aux-in and aux-out? Does the amplifier really have enough power to drive a couple of 5.25 two way in wall speakers with little distortion, or is an out board amplifier suggested? Finally, I am seeing that on the touch screen version, the "bezel" does not cover the back box allowing the wall cutout to be exposed, is this the case on this one as well?

BEST ANSWER: All connection to the unit are Euro block screw terminals. I installed the unit into a 2-gang stainless Decora plate after sitting the metal out from between the two openings. Then I just screwed the Decora plate to the wall. I am powering a single Monoprice Aria stereo in-ceiling speaker, intel #4619. It gets plenty loud, and I'm sure would be fine with two 5.25" speakers, depending on the efficiency, desired volume, and room size.

There are only a set of wire connectors (with screw) : 2 for aux-in, 2 x 2 for speakers, 2 for FM antenna, 2 for AC 110/220.
I drive 2 80 W speakers , 6,5 " with very good sound.
The back mounting box is installed in a plaster wall, and correctly finished. (no touch screen version)

Simple to hook up and works great. I have only used it for Bluetooth so far as I get terrible radio reception. Very happy with it.

Great product even for outdoors (covered), but they can't say that....
Had bought the older model with touch screen display for an outdoor patio TV and wanted radio and BT capability and this unit fits the bill. Have had that for almost a year outside in Houston (inside a cabinet with TV under covered patio) and it has worked great. Bought this version without the display just a few months ago to put in the garage for the radio and BT. Have been very happy with these to date, they work great. Only thing on this version that I didn't like so far is the radio station pre-set is harder to work with than on the version with the touch screen where you can just scroll thru and choose the station quickly. this version doesn't appear to be able to do that, have to cycle thru all pre-sets. It does stay on last station selected which is good. Very happy with these, all features have worked. Aux input is a little low even in the high gain setting for the TV, so have to turn up the TV volume a lot. Great product for the price.

Great little unit
I bought two of these when hey were on sale. I installed one in my bathroom and will keep the other for a future project.
Installation is a little quirky. The electrical box that comes with this unit is some overseas style that I don't fully understand. It does not have mounting tabs like an old-work box that you get here in the US. However, I did figure out a way to install it easily. I used a stainless 2-gang decorated plate and simply cut out the divider between the two rectangular holes. You don't even need to cut it exactly -- tin snips will do just fine. Once that piece is gone, the amplifier will install into the hole, and then the plate can be attached to the wall with no additional box. This was easy to do in my wall since there is plywood behind the drywall. Otherwise, you'll need a wood backing, drywall anchors, or just some silicone. Drywall anchors might be tricky, because the screws will be really close to the hole you cut in the drywall.
Alright, enough about installation. I mostly use this unit for listening to FM radio and bluetooth. I used a cheap dipole antenna for FM reception. It works great for me because there is an attic above the bathroom, so the T-shaped antenna can stretch out up there. I had to cut off the end and just stick the wires into the antenna connectors on the amplifier. Reception is pretty good. The only quirk is that it automatically scans and sets up the presets. I believe there is room for 30 presets in this unit. There are more than 30 stations that come in here, so it filled up before it ran all the way through the spectrum. That being said, dialing in a station is as easy as pressing the numbers on the remote.
Bluetooth works well on this unit. One trick that I figured out on my own is that if you are in bluetooth mode and want to "forget" the device you previously used and learn another, you just press and hold the play/pause button on the unit itself for a few seconds. You'll see the bluetooth symbol in the display start to flash. Then you can connect the new device.
I have the unit connected to a single in-ceiling stereo speaker. Volume is more than enough for my small bathroom. I'm sure it would be enough for background music in any room, and would probably get fairly loud if you have very efficient speakers. Quality is good. My speaker is probably the limiting factor here. There are a few EQ presets that you can flip through to see what you look the best. I usually leave it on Rock.
For what it is worth, I was not able to get an Echo Flex to connect to this unit's bluetooth, but I haven't had good luck getting the Flex to connect to most bluetooth devices. No problem with my iPhone, iPad, or computer.
I may end up installing the other unit in my bedroom once I run audio from the living room so I can tap it into the AUX input.

OK for the sale price, but I wouldn't pay the retail price for it.
It's OK for the price I paid, but don't think that you are getting any kind of great sound from it. It's packaged well and comes with everything you need to install it including the European electrical box that fits it. The connectors for all of the power, input, and output connections plug into sockets in the back making wiring quite easy. I bought this when it was first offered for the low introductory sale price. My plan was to buy a couple more for my shops, but the full retail price is just too high for the sound quality. There are better things out there.

Really good, but not without issues
The sound is great. I like the simple design and I like that it has an audio out so you can chain them together. I really like that it runs off of 120V so you don't have to putz around with a power supply.
Here's the issue: it's not UL listed and it's not even designed for US style junction boxes. You won't be able to install it if you're working where the work is going to be inspected. To do a decent installation takes a little work.
If you take a double Decora style wall-plate and cut out the divider you get a square that is about the right size to mount it on. Put this over a 2-gang junction box and you have a decent installation. It's not legal to run 120V into this box but it's not the worst thing you could do either.
Considering the state of in-wall audio these days, there really aren't any good choices and none of the other choices seemed to be code-compliant either. This is the least-bad solution I could find.
