Does it take full 1-KG filament rolls or just 500 gram rolls?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
This printer would hold our 500 G and 1KG spools.
The 700kg spools would not be the right size.

I have used 1k spools from Colorfab, Hatchbox, and SainSmart and they all work fine. It is a bit tricky to fit them in and you need to ensure the bracket that holds the filament is fully seated in the slot on the side of the case. Once seated properly I have had no printing issues, jams, layer shifts, etc, with any of my 1k spools.

From what I can tell it condenses a few of the menus and makes navigation cleaner on the printer. I was not able to find release notes.
For me it also broke USB printing and requires that I manually run the auto bed level routine before each print, otherwise it will start trying to print ~1cm off the print bed. I would not recommend installing the update at this time based on my experience.

I have the same issue. I updated to the new firmware 2.02 and now it is trying to print about ~1cm. Auto bed leveling doesn't seem to help for me...

Has anyone had problems removing the raft from the prints? The raft design seems a little different than before and is hard to remove.

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. This can be corrected by adjust the air gap between the raft and the print. This can be found in the "Slice Settings" button if you are using WiiBuilder under the Build Plate Adhesion Tab.

They list 100-400 microns as the layer resolution... Is there an apparent reason for the decrease from v1? The Z accuracy is seemingly more than sufficient for the same 20 microns that I've printed on the v1 and difficulty of tuning aside the only other issue I could imagine is if the bed leveling is not precise enough. Anyone have experience to say what resolution you can actually get and/or why not higher?

Don't compare v1 to v2 as they are completely different printers and even totally different brands. So whule v1 may have been able to do something v2 is an entirely new animal. It may be able to accomplish similar things but there is nothing here that came from v1.

Yes absolutely. The tube is not a Bowden tube, even though it looks like one. Its only purpose is to guide the filament from the spool to the extruder. The extruder is directly on top of the hot end with no Bowden tube in the filament feed path between the extruder and hot end.

Yes it absolutely can be used with Cura v4. You just need to do some messing around in the settings. I can get more in-depth later but basically go into Cura 3.3 and go to the printer settings and copy the start and end Gcode from there. Create a new printer in Cura v4 and enter ALL of the settings from Cura 3.3 into here. This includes the start and end Gcode as well as all the other settings on that screen. Make sure they match in the new Cura. This is how I have been printing since day 1 with this printer with no big issues. I did run into issues controlling the hot end and heated bed but that happened in 3.3 as well.

does the printer take 2kg spools?
A shopper
on Apr 27, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Maybe, but will have to have the “short” inner diameter lengths. I the holder is only about 2.1” long and Bends up at end to keep spook close to wall. Some of my spools are 3” but have a shorter section in the ID and still work. Still it’s the worst thing about this machine but still a good printer. Buy something else if you want to do a lot of flex

My Maker Ultimate 2 nozzle scrapes the tape when trying to print. It appears I need to perform some sort of recalibration however the instruction manual says nothing about how to do this. The manual only lists menu functions with no steps to adjust. How do I check position calibration and determine if adjustments are needed?

BEST ANSWER: Click on "Control", click on "Z Offset Setting", click center button. Once table moves into position you can adjust the level of the plate. Clockwise to move down. Suggest putting a post it note between the nozzle and the printing plate and adjusting until there is resistance to pulling the note out. Press the center button to set this as your offset.
Hope this helps.

There is a setscrew on the front of the plastic mount for the inductive sensor. Once loosen, you can adjust the sensor up and down to set where z=0 is relative to the platform. With updated firmware you can also adjust the z offset on the screen but moving the sensor is easier and more intuitive.

Just curious what the best way to print higher temp filaments is? I keep getting a "THERMAL RUNAWAY" message. Thanks! God bless
A shopper
on Oct 23, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Honestly this is not a good printer for anything beyond about 230c. You might be able to get ABS to work if you can find one that uses a lower temperature but for the most part this means PLA and TPU work well on here. However when you get anywhere near even 240c you will hit the thermal runaway most likely. This is because when the printer heats the head up it heats it further than you set and then lets the temp drop. So your 240c is likely hitting near 250c on heat up. It can even happen at a little lower temps. Never had a problem with 220c and below though.

BEST ANSWER: I haven't had this particular issue, but I keep my filament sensor turned off. Maybe try turning off the filament sensor.

Maker Ultimate 2 3D printer Great performance for this price point
This is my second Monoprice printer. They are heavy, very sturdy systems, and they are improving with time. The self-leveling glass bed is one of the big improvements over older models. It pays to have experience with printers, so you know how to deal with the problems that inevitably will come up. First the good news, the prints are excellent, and that's what you purchase a printer for. The fight to get there, that's part of the cost of playing the game, particularly in this price range.
A few changes that will likely be made, either by users or in future models:
My "complaints" center entirely on the filament. Putting the spool inside may make sense, however it is squeezed next to the printer bed and not so easy to access as other placements (ie back of the printer as in most printers). The spool location means that the end of filament detector is also hidden at the back of the chamber. I had to bypass the filament detector because it was too difficult to thread through. I'm sure it would come in handy for large prints, most of my prints are small parts. The exit tube for the filament brings the filament into a sharp bend when the filament contacts the upper door. I'm not sure that's why the filament breaks so often (may be just old filament), but they should have provided room for a more gentle bend for the filament feed. Since the filament breaks so often, I've had more than expected experience replacing broken filament, and while the retraction automation is good, I've encountered some problems feeding the filament into the head. Sometimes the filament takes a bad route and ends up hitting the fan (not good).
I've never printed directly on the bed before, and printing on glass gives one side the smoothest surface ever. I'm sure the completely enclosed cabinet provides the good temperature control necessary for the high quality printing. While others may require better software than what is supplied with the system, there are plenty of parameters to set in the provided system. It only took about half an hour to set the system up, and that time was only because of the excellent packing of the system. the internal components were tied down in an excellent manner. Although I may have cursed the difficulty in unpacking, I'm sure that is necessary to maintain the excellent print quality that results. If you are prepared for a few inconveniences, I think the print quality will prove that this is a good choice for a printer, at this price point.

looks nice but can't print anything
Haven't completed a single print. Bed adhesion was bad even with tape, plain glass or glass with glue. Filament feed stopped working and haven't heard back from support.

Best value printer when on sale
For the price it can't be beat. I ditched the tape and added a PEI build sheet. The height sensor can be adjusted by loosening the two set screws on the front of the plastic collar and moving / twisting the sensor.
It is reasonable fast for the price but its not a Bamboo or Voron...

Had to send it back
This may be just because the FedEx guy literally threw it out of the truck and then threw it at my door, but this thing messed up more times than it didn't. I wish it worked properly but the manual and instructions are VERY poor and so is their tech support. So troubleshooting on my own was not easy. Hoping the next one works better.

Been going non stop since I got it.
Really easy to use. Once I got used to the Cura software making scaled down models to test fit prior to full size printing was a snap. Kind of become a new addiction

A bit fragile but good quality PLA print.
I have owned 5 previous printers including the original model Ultimate and mini select plus others. I bought two Ultimate Two printers on sale. first one worked right out of the box with good quality on all 3 sample files - unpacking and setup were easy. Second printer got halfway thru first sample file - the Boat, then created a tangle of extruded filament - the plastic mount for the X and Y rails in back right top corner had split and drive belt tension was lost. I contacted Tech support by email including photos of broken part and purchase receipt and asked for replacement part to install myself - no part available so I had to box up and return entire printer (home is remote cabin and it's a all day trip on narrow mountain roads to town and back and >$50 in gas to get it to FedEx dropoff for return shipping). Monoprice covered return shipping and sent replacement printer within 5 days of sending the return unit, I just got home from a trip and will test it tomorrow.
