Working as described in my vintage 2007 Mac Pro. My front USB ports didn't seem to support my HP8300 color scanner. I installed card in the Mac Pro - with a mere flip of the panel lever, removed on screw holding the card slot, installed card, and bingo, the card was recognized by the Mac. Plugged in my USB cable and the scanner has been working flawlessly.

PROS: Worked exactly as described and fit nicely in the Mac Pro.

CONS: None at this time

As many may know, the Mac Pro stopped including FireWire 400 ports in their systems starting in 2009. I know this specifically stated in its specifications that it is meant for Windows systems, but I wanted to see if it'd work... And low and behold it does. There are glitches and problems since it's obviously not running with any of its native drivers, but it gets the job done 95% of the time. This card is extremely helpful, but if I were you, I'd invest in a few 400 to 800 converter cables... Because as much as this can do a lot on the Mac... It can't do it all.

PROS: It works with my Mac Pro! ... Kind of.

CONS: Shame on any manufacturer of PCI-Express hardware for not including full Mac compatibility! There are serious problems with any pro video hardware via FireWire 400 and with bus-powered FireWire drives when connected through this card. Connection drops out and freezes software in use. However, all other FireWire 400 connected hardware works perfectly and without a glitch. The USB slots work like a dream.

I have been attempting to get the 1394a Firewire portion of the Combo card to work with no success after multiple attempts to reload drivers, search for driver updates from the Microsoft , NEC & JVC websites. The USB connectors on the card work fine. but have not been able to get any of the internal or external Firewire connections to link up to my JVC GR-30DA30U digital video camera which was the reason for the purchase.
I am currently running Windows 7, but was previously running under the recommended Windows XP platform which also resulted in the failure to connect. At this time the only thing I have not done is to purchase another Firewire cable with the Firewire and mini DV type ends to determine if the cable is the problem.
At this time the device manager indicates and has always indicated the 1394a adapter portion is at the correct driver and functioning properly, but have never received the "new hardware found" message from either Windows XP or Windows 7 when I plug in the JVC video camera.

I may be incorrect about the rating of 6, but until I determine whether the problem is Windows, Adapter PCI-E card or the cable, that is about all I can do at this time.

Plugged right into my Vista 64-bit, system found drivers and worked like a charm.
