Is this switch (#35557, single pole without dimmer) able to work with more than one LED bulb? Apparently, the switch with dimmer is not to be used with multiple bulbs (although one reviewer notes he has had no problem dimming 3 identical LED bulbs.) I am looking for the ability to schedule lighting for 3 identical front porch light bulbs and also still use the switch as needed.

BEST ANSWER: This should work with multiple bulbs if they are wired together.. It is a single pole switch. One thing I should point out is that you will need a neutral wire.. I replaced a regular light switch which did not have a neutral; luckily there was a neutral wire in my gang box as most newer homes have. .

You can switch anything as long as the total load does not exceed the rating of the device. If you are trying to dim bulbs of different wattage or current draw than yes you will have a problem dimming.
Several bulbs of the exact load / wattage should not be a problem to dim or switch.

This is not true. As long as your combined wattage of all the bulbs are 150W or 600W(for Incandescent), you CAN control more than one bulb at a time; the only caveat being that the bulbs would be on the same schedule because they are part of the same circuit. Good Luck!!

As long as your string of bulbs do no exceed the current rating of the switch I see no reason why you can't use it. but you can't separate the swtich from the schedule, either all the bulbs will come on according to schedule or if you use the switch manually.

Yes it will work, as long as your 3 lights are on one switch. It still will turn on and off when you want. For instance, you turn on the switch, your schedule will not be affected. Stitch is great!

This switch is not for controlling a Television. Even if you used it for such an event then it can only send current to the TV where a TV has to be on all the time. It may still not work in newer televisions.

Will this work on with traditional light bulbs. I keeping on promising that as my light bulbs burn out, I will replace them with smart ones. The problem is they are not burning out. Will this device allow me using "google" to turn of the lights. Also they are certain lights in my house where they are a part of light panel with 4 and 2 switches for different lights. How can I go about replace one light switch in this configuration?

BEST ANSWER: These are good switches though the interaction with automation is still early as the price shows. The software/configuration is not super simple but not "rocket science" either. If I get your question right you have multi-gang switches (i.e. multiple switches in a box) - replacing each switch with a separate one of these would work, though these are bigger (deeper) than traditional switches. I was lucky to be doing new installation so made sure to have deep outlet boxes to accommodate the wire and switches. Hope that helps!

Yes. The wall switch is only to turn the power on and off. When you have smart bulbs, the wall switch is always on supplying power to the bulb which has the controls embedded in it. Don't worry the smart bulbs draw very little power when not fully on. I think my bill changed less than a dollar every 10 months.

Yes, this switch is designed to work with traditional light bulbs. It also is compatible with standard and three way switches. However, be aware that it requires power at the switch. Often times power is only available at the light fixture. In those cases, this device will not work.

I have smart bulbs, I'm looking for a switch where I can physically turn the switch off, but still control the bulbs from Alexa or Homekit... Will this work?
Jarelle M
on Apr 12, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The use of physical switches is PROBLEMATIC with smart home systems. With smart bulbs, you do NOT want to physically turn them off, you want to LOGICALLY turn them off. That is essentially what ALEXA/GOOGLE are doing with voice. Trying to send logical control via a physical wired switch is NOT yet available. At SOME POINT in time, switch makers will begin implementing ALEXA's MOTION/SENSOR API which will allow changes in state to be recognized by ALEXA/GOOGLE, but to date, I do not see anything like that on the market.

This switch replaces an existing wall mounted switch and is controlled through the stitch app. It also works with Alexa. Using a smart bulb is redundant. A regular wall switch can turn off your smart bulb but then you would have to turn the switch back on at some time for the smart bulb to work again.... this switch works with regular non smart bulbs. I have 5 or 6 of these switchs in my home and really like setting them up for complete home automation but also controllable with Alexa.

I have Google Home and this pitch works with Google home. I can say Hey Google, turn off light and the light goes off. The lights I have are not smart lights, so that means the switch is a switch and opens the circuit so no electricity is flowing to the light. The smart light would not have power when the switch was off. While the switch was on, I would imagine that your part smart bulb would operate as normal.

Do these work in a 3-way switch setup?
A shopper
on Mar 19, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes, they are designed to work in a 3-way configuration. Note that because of the electronics, the switch must be wired to a neutral, even in a 2-way configuration. So instead of only the two standard hot/load lines on basic switch, you must connect hot, load, and neutral. There is a 4th connection for a traveler for your setup. Take a look at the User Manual for wiring details: https://downloads.monoprice.com/files/manuals/35557_Manual_181212.pdf

In my case, yes, I needed to use the neutral wire. I did a search for smart switch and neutral wire and found some good explanations as to why I needed it. Basically, the Stitch always needs power. My previous switch was just a simple 2-wire switch that mechanically opened and closed the circuit.

BEST ANSWER: I wouldn't, except for the oddest cases.
When you turn the plug off in Stitch, you will see and be able to control it from Google, Stitch App, etc. and it will show "off" only if there is power to the plug. It's using a very tiny amount of power to listen for a change.
When you turn the Wall switch off, the normal plugs on that line will be off, you will see and be able to control the switch from Google, Stitch App, etc. and the switch will show "off". Then with no power to the plug it your Stitch account cannot connect to the plug and cannot tell you it's off.
To make sure the plug is on you would have to turn the switch on, wait about 15 seconds for the plug to reconnect to WiFi, then check the status of the plug. The plug usually remembers its last on/off status and WiFi password, or you can go back to the location and use Bluetooth to retrain it.
Say you wanted an entire rack of modems, routers, and APs turned off by one switch and a separate WiFi router running a sub network for guests that doesn't get a good WAN address if turned on before the rest finishes booting. You would do better to have two plugs and name them "1 - Total System" and "2 - Guest network" so the UPS can be in a third outlet. (Remove the 1 and 2 if you wish to be the only person who can remember how to turn it back on correctly.)

BEST ANSWER: In terms of the wifi connectivity, im not too sure. It may be in the manual. In order to establish a wifi connection it is best to have your phone close to your internet router. In terms of controlling the switch, once you go through the set up, you can control the switch from anywhere.

The switch has to connect to wifi so it has to be within your router’s range. Once if is connected then Alexa will control it through the wifi network, regardless where the Alexa device is located.

on Aug 3, 2019
BEST ANSWER: You need three wires to hot, neutral, and ground to make this work, the fourth wire is optional for 3 way switches. The only way for you to make this, or any other smart switch that I've seen, work would be to run a ground wire for it. You'll have to decide if that is worth it for you.

you need to have 4 wires: hot, ground, neutral, and load. i first tried without the neutral and it would not power on. after connecting neutral, it works like a champ. hope that helps.

Just installed this switch a few days ago. It seems to randomly fall off the network. When it's on the network, the connectivity tests fine through the STITCH app. Any tips on troubleshooting this further? Is it defective?

BEST ANSWER: I recommend that you confirm the strength of your 2.4 Ghz network. If you have another STITCH device (like a portable round plug unit), place it physically at that location (on an extension cord) and check it's connectivity for 24 - 48 hours. If you're sure the 2.4 Ghz network is strong enough at that location, the switch may be intermittent and could be RMAed.

I have four of these in my house and I did have one that gave me some connectivity issues and I replaced it. Since then they have worked great. I would trip the breaker and slide the switch back and forth at the bottom of the switch and get it going again sometimes.

Will this work with a switch that has a ceiling fan on it? The switch controls the fan and light in one.
Brandon K
on Jan 30, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The full specs say it can support up to 1/2HP motor, so if your ceiling fan's motor is < 1/2HP you should be fine. Note that 1/2HP ~= 372W, so your HP limit will be (372 minus your combined bulb wattage) divided by 745. For example, if you have two 12W (75W equivalent) LED bulbs, you'd take 372 - 24 = 348, then 348 / 745 = 0.46 HP... if your ceiling fan's motor is rated 0.4 HP (or less) you should be fine. Similarly, if you have two 60W incandescent bulbs, you'd take 372 - 120 = 252, then 252 / 745 = 0.33 HP -- that same 0.4 HP fan would NOT be okay (but if it's rated 0.3 HP you're fine).

big thumbs up
Finally installed after having the switch sit around for probably a year, replacing a difficult to reach switch behind the kitchen table.
Absolutely could not have been simpler. BUT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A WHITE NEUTRAL WIRE RUNNING TO THE BOX HOLDING YOUR SWITCH THAT YOU ARE REPLACING - it's required for wifi power when the light is off. Mine was not connected to the old switch, but tucked off to the side.
The Switch is a bit large but I fit it in a small metal junction box without too much issue. The Switch is *really* well made, quite solid with several design features to make it easier for a non-electrician to install. For example, the wire connectors are really nice, insert the wires into the appropriate holes and tighten the screws (best I've seen), and things are recessed to minimize the chance of accidental shorts.
My first STITCH device - the installation software is amazingly simplistic (in the best way), AND it worked flawlessly the first time. It was so quick and simple, I was sure that something had screwed up, but no.
I then spent 10 additional seconds connecting to Alexa (enabled on Sonos).
Alexa, Dimmer on. Alexa:OK.
Alexa, Dimmer off.
Alexa, Dimmer 50%.
Good stuff. I've been playing with WiFi and proto-WiFi devices for just about 30 years now, this is a very polished product for what is almost a commodity item.

FYI: Not a 3-way (SPDT) switch in the conventional sense
So, it appears that this switch does not function as a "normal" 3-way switch - i.e. it's not a single-pole double throw (SPDT) switch. Rather than providing line voltage *out* of the "traveler" terminal, the load is switched when the traveler terminal sees voltage *in*. Read the manual! You don't need a second 3-way switch on the other end of the circuit to get 3-way functionality; you simply need a single-pole, single throw switch (i.e. a normal on/off switch). Something to keep in mind when buying the switch.
I've got a question in the Q&A section as to whether this device can function with 4-way switches, which was my intended use case.
Other than the atypical 3-way implementation, the switch functions as promised. I was able to flash these devices with Tasmota and skip having to use the underlying Tuya service for these devices.

Good product. Not for 3 way switches despite claims
A good overall product. There is some false advertising as the dimmer version says it can be used with 3 way switch situations but the fine print in the manual says it can't. Disappointed with that as even the box says it can be used with 3 way switches

Ensure you can turn off 5GHz wifi signal before you buy
Awesome timer lights. Work like clockwork and don't falter like older timer switches of the past. The only fault with these is that they do not connect to a 5 GHz wifi signal, so if you have a strong router or mesh system, you will need to manually turn off your 5GHz signal (hopefully your system allows you to turn that off), then connect to the 2.4GHz. Once that happens, your golden. Love the remote accessibility, and being able to program to fit any schedule.
