Don't buy, Incorrectly wired. !! Wait for revision 2 !!
not carrying power is good for people who are concerned that they might fry something. however it is kind-of detrimental if you're trying to bus power a hard drive, and some FW controllers take power from the bus rather than the device.

PROS: really well constructed cable.
not to think not too thin.
CONS: Incorrectly wired, follows a straight through pinout vs. a correct crisscrossed data line pinout.
at least with the version I received the power connection was not passed through.
Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about the incorrect wiring on PID 35. I will pass this on to our Product development team so that they may look into resolving these issues or making the product better. For now if you prefer, I can assist you in setting up an RMA for a replacement. We do offer a 30 day return policy as well as a lifetime warranty on our cables. Obtaining a replacement will be of no additional cost to you. Please let me know if you would like to continue with a replacement and I can get that started for you right away.

Don't buy, doesn't work!
I had to return this after it did not work. I ordered two and they both did not work on several computers and with different recording interfaces (Digi 002 and Digi 003).
PROS: None.
CONS: Did not work with my computer and recording interface.
Two of these were defective - pick a different cable
This cable was dead on arrival. I had Monoprice customer service send me a free replacement, and that one did not work either. Bottom line - avoid this specific cable. Notice that all of the latest reviews are 1 star, despite the average review being 4 stars. Customer service was good and the other cable I got from Monoprice was fine, but just avoid this cheap one.
PROS: Monoprice customer service was friendly and reasonably quick with responding to my replacement/refund emails.
CONS: Did not make any sort of connection with the PC/device
I had a chance to use those 2 cables for my music gear Motu 424 PCIe card last night since I received them 10 days ago. I'm so disappointed to find out none of them were working. I connected back my old 1394 cables ( which are too long for my need ) and my PC could recognize my Motu Audio interface boxes thru those old cables.I'd like to ask your replacement if possible. Thanks.
Thank you for your review and my apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 35. A shame these didn't work out for your needs.. Now if I may ask, have we tried connecting a different device with these to see if the issue persists? Any chance we can try this with a different computer to see if the results change? Also, has this been the case since you received it? Sorry again for the trouble and thanks in advance!

non working cables
They are not working. Had to return 13 of 20 purchased cables
Ordered 2 of these. Neither of them work. Now that I look at the reviews I see the same thing happened to somone else. Hopefully Monoprice customer service can sort this out as I have always been very happy with my purchases in the past.
I bought two of these to hook up my Stanton SCS.1D DJ turntables to my PC. However, nothing happens when I connect everything. Not even a "Firewire device not recognized" message. This happened with BOTH cables. Ended up having to replace them with more expensive ones. This is the first (and hopefully only) time Monoprice has ever let me down. You get what you pay for, I guess. At least they were so cheap I don't even have to bother returning 'em.
