My tv is Bluetooth ready and also has hdmi(arc) which connection will give me better sound?
A shopper
on Mar 11, 2022
BEST ANSWER: A wired connection should give you better sound quality than a Bluetooth connection, though in normal use it might not be enough of a difference to matter. Only your own ears can tell you that. One good reason to use HDMI is to avoid a dropped Bluetooth pairing while you're in the middle of watching a program! With this soundbar I use HDMI for my television and Bluetooth when I want to stream music from my laptop or phone. I get good results with both connections.

The HDMI (arc) will always be the best sounding connection and will give you more control of the soundbar. This is only if the HDMI connection works correctly, sometimes older TV’s don’t handle the arc connection well. The next best sounding connection is the optical connection and lastly the Bluetooth. Sometimes there’s a lag in the sound from the Bluetooth connection.

Bluetooth can have latency, so the sound and video aren't synched. I would always recommend wired connections for sound for something like this.

How do you connect this to your TV?
A C
on Jan 15, 2019
BEST ANSWER: It depends a bit on your tv. you will need an audio output of some kind. the soundbar has connections for 3mm audio (headphone size) Optical Digital (Toslink) and HDMI ARC. I found I actually need both the 3mm audio and one of the digital because the tv signal we get over the air does not contain the correct digital audio, so i use the 3mm audio for broadcast tv and the Optical Audio for content from our BluRay player and streaming services

I use the HDMI ARC port on the back of the TV. However if you don't have that port you can use the optical out or a headphone or line out on your TV. I bought this particular unit because of the ARC function as my TV will only control external units and their volume through that port. My TV was made by Philips.

Either HDMI, HDMI/ARC, 1/8' speaker out, or Line level RCA phono to 1/8" stereo plug. Depending on ports available on your TV. If you use the 1/8" stereo jack the Bar will auto detect when there is an Audio signal and turn itself on.

Can this be used to output the sound from an Amazon Alexa "DOT?" Also, will this turn on automatically when Alexa is 'woken up'?

BEST ANSWER: Yes it will connect to the DOT. If you use the 3.5mm cable, it will turn on when it senses an Input. This takes about 2 seconds or so after Audio starts. The BlueTooth input doesn't auto sense. You would have to turn on the Speakers with the remote first, then wake up the dot

Yes, I have my TV connected through a Headphone jack on my TV which would be the same as on the DOT - I assume it would wake when it hears Alexa turn on, the issue I might see is that there is a brief delay, so you may not hear the first couple seconds of what Alexa Says.

It depends. The soundbar supports the following inputs: 1/8" phono, coaxial, optical, HDMI ARC.
Does that TV support any of those? It has to offer RCA audio out at a minimum right? You could use that with a cable that combines R/L RCA into a single 1/8" phono.

It doesn't come with a mounting kit and will not directly mount to the wall. I would use a floating shelf as you need room to plug in whatever cable you choose to connect to the TV with.

BEST ANSWER: Idon't have the SB100 to personally compare the two, but looking at the specs, the 200 has 100 watts of power vs 80 watts that the 100 has. Also, the 200 has ARC function, and it has the ability to add a wireless subwoofer (or just buy the 200SW to get the subwoofer included). Hope this helps a little.

I actually have both, the SB-100 is in our bedroom and the SB-200 is our 'main' sound in the family room. You can compare power specs and such, but the main difference is the wireless subwoofer on the SB-200. It delivers great bottom without being overpowering.

There's no pairing involved, but you have to make sure the source is set to output via Toslink/SPDIF and the correct input is selected on the soundbar manually. It will not auto-switch to the optical input like it might with HDMI ARC.

Have since purchased it (or my wife did, as a Christmas gift), and can confirm the ARC works very well with the comparable HDMI port on our TCL brand TV. Tried a couple of other connections, including the optical and 1/8" plug, and while both powered on automatically with the TV, and the analog plug acted like a headphone jack, allowing control from the TV, the ARC HDMI is the most seamless, and the best choice if you have it available.

The best answer that I can give you is MAYBE, if connected via HDMI (ARC). Historically, ARC plays best with a TV that is the same brand as the soundbar. There are too many different TV brands to be able to answer this question with 100% certainty. At this price and with Monoprice's generous return policy, I would buy it and see for yourself.

The back of the speaker bar has nothing that works to attach to a mount. The subwoofers are on top, so you would not want to mount flush against the bottom of the TV. I am planning on building something to have it mount with a small bit of space below the TV, but it will require extra effort beyond what you get with a typical soundbar mount
The quality is really good for the price on this soundbar, but it's not a good choice if you have plans of mounting it as part of a wall-mounted TV..

I bought the soundbar for improved TV spoken words. Some does I think it's improved other days I'm not so sure. Given that i"ve only had it for two weeks I'm on the fence.
Setting it up was easy and so far it has kept all settings on power up and power down.

Good, but dealing with auto-power-down
It sounds great! The only problem is that when connected via Blue Tooth it powers off when inactive, such as when pausing a movie. When I restarted the movie, the sound bar did not turn itself back on, so I had to manually power on and the reconnect. Pain. I was hoping to find a way to configure it to either not power down (unless told to do so by the user/operator), or if it must turn itself off, then it should also turn itself back on. I connected the HDMI arc jacks on the TV and sound bar, but it still did not work. I hope I missed something, because I only want to set this up one time.

good price but get what you pay for here. I have bought many things from Monoprice. I don't know But it wont work. second it sounds bad. No EQ only 3 settings that don't make much difference. The first bar I got didn't have the power cord, So I had to send it back and get sent out a second one. I am returning this one.
