Look closely at the close-up photos. If the speaker is truly 8" then extending beyond that is some black plastic material and then a white trim ring for the finished look. So the specification of it being 11.1" overall would probably be correct!

Some kind of acoustic environment we always enhance the sound of a speaker. Check local codes for indications of need for a "back box"

IT STATES THAT THIS WORKS WITH THE 4104 WHICH HAS A "NORMAL" BEZEL, If I choose the same speaker with the "slim" bezel, the part number changes to 34707, but the picture of the speaker back and the dimensions look like it fits this slim bezel style too, Is this CORRECT? Will it fit the 4104 with a slim bezel, part 34707?

Can these be used on a covered porch? The temperature fluctuates from 0 degrees F - 100 degrees F where I live. Thank you.

BEST ANSWER: Most likely, yes. But if it were me I would opt for the outdoor model.
They are engineered to withstand more extreme temperature flucuations.

Other than the bezel, is there a difference between 4104 and 34707? Sound quality, etc.?

BEST ANSWER: Hey, the sound quality is perfect. Comparable to the Klipsch we have in our kitchen. They were a little deceiving when i ordered them thought. the "8 inch" was what we thought was going to be the circumference, however, is actually the size of the magnet. its more like 12" , and 14" around. Luckily they're for our home theatre, and don't really notice how monstrous they are! Sound quality is great.

Impressed, driving these with a Sonos amp, paired with a sub. Excellent sound quality for the $

Good ceiling speakers
Sounds great for the price. The mounting clips are flimsy and can pop out of place while installing in the ceiling.

Fine speakers, poor mounting
The speakers are fine - this review is regarding the install. I've installed the old model of these speakers before and haven't had a problem. This time, 2 of the 4 mounting ears on each of the speakers became misaligned, jammed up, and became unusable. Now each of the speakers is only held up by the 2 that worked. I wish that Monoprice would beef this design up or include a couple extra in the packaging for when 50% of them fail.

Looks good, Sounds meh. May be decent solution for budget-minded.
decent for the value; speaker looks gorgeous; slim/almost nonexistent border/edge makes it look very sleek compared to other speakers in its price range. It was missing some depth of sound, however; bass was meh, and so were the mids. perhaps they may have sounded better if there weren't other speakers compared to it. highs were pretty decent; guitar, etc. came out sounding pretty good. These speakers were also compared against some Monoprice Alphas, Dayton Audio CS820c, Dayton Audio ME820c, Micca R-8c, and BIC Acoustech HT-8C.
My ranking would put these at the bottom of the list; they look good, but sound meh. Still, price point is pretty good.

Good Speakers, horrible installation.
I bought these 8" speakers to fill the 4 holes that my Klipsch 3800's used to occupy before I moved them to a dedicated theater room. I didn't buy the Monoprice speakers because I thought they would be great speakers, but rather I needed something to make the living room a bit more lively when we just wanted to watch regular TV or listen to music. These can't hold a candle range wise to my Klipsch but they are decent speakers for the price and the average consumer will enjoy them.
Pros: Decent quality, decent for music (i don't have them broke in fully yet, so I might update the rating)
Cons: The bass is really not there but that is what subwoofers are for. MOUNTING SYSTEM IS BAD, see below. Instructions for mounting are also very poor in my opinion.
THE BIG CON: The mounting arms and screw combinations they use are not well designed. Ensure that you test screw each mounting arm fully at least 2x to ensure the screw does not get stuck in the arm or it will skew outwards and cross thread. The problem is that the screws are too short to and there is not enough length to get them started which results in the arm twisting out of the channel. Also, the screws do not allow you to really get the arms tight to the drywall surface because they are not threaded the entire way down. I might have to take them out again and get longer screws with full threads down to the head to make them really flush with the ceiling. This is something I would suggest doing.
