Can the proximity sensor be overridden in order to use a glass bed on this printer?

on Jun 4, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
The sensor cannot be overrode but you can increase or decrease the offset of the Z-axis to account for the glass bed.

Is this done on the printer directly or on the slicer software? I've noticed that the adjustment on the printer can only vary by 1 mm.

You should be able to manual level/tram the bed by unplugging the inductive sensor. If you do unplug the sensor which is located on the fan shroud please be sure to pull from the plug housing and not the wires as they can easily be pulled from the contacts. Not an easy fix due to the small size on the contacts.
You can see the plug I am referring to in this product photo. https://images.monoprice.com/productlargeimages/344383.jpg
Also in that photo you can see the Z-axis endstop that is used as a backup/failsafe in case something goes wrong with the autolevel/inductive sensor. In the picture it is the small green PCB that looks like it is just above the bed and to the left of the Z-axis lead screw.
Before you home the printer you may also want to use the four knobs below the bed to lower the bed surface a little to be sure the Z-axis endstop is triggered before the hotend/nozzle pushes down onto it.

I have glass beds and clamps on all of my MP10's. Just do the auto homing first, then crank down on all four very robust thumbscrews, add the glass, add clamps/thermal pad, try a test print for a bed-level check, presto. I've had no problems at all using glass and the beds stay pretty stable.

Do you change your start G-code to not run the auto home or auto level after you've done this? It sounds like if you don't it will crash into the glass plate.

Hi, I saw in the specs that the printing bed is removable, but mi printer came with the printing bed glued to the platform. Do I need another printing bed? What can I do to have a removable bed as the specs show?

BEST ANSWER: Hello, I purchased this same unit a few months ago and so far have been happy with it. This is my first experience with 3-d printing, and I've only used it for a few fun projects around the house, nothing serious, and if I we're relying on this for any type of actual production work, I'd be pretty frustrated. All-in-all, for the very low price, this machine is incredibly easy to set-up and start using for a first-timer in the 3-d printing world.

Great Except...
I got it working and setup. Had to find profiles on my own for MacBook. you should include some on software chip for Mac. Downloaded ver 4.8 of Cura and used Creality CR-10 mini as starting point.went to internet for suggested settings. Learned a lot.
Bigger problem was the out of filament sensor was way to sensitive, any time print head moved too much it set off "out of filament " error message and paused machine. in 3hr print happened 23 times. I removed it for the filament path, stuff piece of filament in it and reattached underneath filament path. see photo attached.
Other than that seems to work fine now.

great little printer
Works out of the box, mesh bed leveling is a godsent for good first layers. It is a great printer to teach you about 3d printing. Very easy to service, i think that if you get this, and then get a more advanced model from another company, you will never stop using this printer and. getting very good results for the small amount of time it takes to set up prints. the only cons are, hard to get parts, and adjusting esteps is not in menu.
and as advice that i had to learn the hard way, clean bed with alcohol and use aqua net hairspray to keep parts from coming unstuck and causing print failure, or use some other product, and always auto home before you engage the auto level or results may vary and the bed may do crazy things like try to go beyond limits, or tries to level where there is no bed, and make horrible noises and you have to shut the power to get it to stop..

Christmas gift
I purchased this as a Christmas gift, so I cannot speak to how it works, but it was shipped very timely and arrived in good condition. I know it is going to be a huge hit!!

Good hardware? No support. Look elsewhere.
This is the 2nd MP printer I have purchased. Both this printer and the mp select mini v2 suffer from the same issue, the prints won't work besides the sample. Using the v4 cura software provided and following instructions to the letter the cat will printer but nothing I slice with cuda software works. This includes samples from thing universe, etc. The hardware seems fine. I have looked all over the net and there are TONS of tweaks you have to make to the profile. Monoprice should just FIX THIS so my 14 year can actually print something he creates.

Pretty good
I had a ton of issues getting the pla to stick to the bed, but hairspray fixed that for the most part. If you are new to 3-D printing there is a lot of tweaking the settings involved but the printer seems to be pretty solid. Mine did develop a squeak after several hours of printing however. I have yet to be able to locate the cause.

RMA'd once, new one dead
I RMA'd the first one I got because the build plate was warped. Now a few months later the screen is effectively dead and I smell ozone when it's powered on.
Two faulty, unusable devices within 6 months of purchase. Stick with a more well known brand.

I'm using Atomic Filament at 230C with a print speed of 50mm/s. This printer likes skirts to get the filament going before the print starts. Take some time to get your first layer correct, you will need to figure out the z-offset (on the display).

Little Confusing - Great!
It took a lot longer to setup than I was hoping, but it was worth it. The only annoying part was the filament feeding. It was impossible to get that to work, but we figured it out. The filament sensor isn't perfect with white, but it's SOOOOO worth $300. No doubt, you need to purchase this printer.

My first 3D printer and it is a keeper!
I have a 3D modeler making 3D .STL files for me of parts and I needed to print the parts, decided on Monoprice and the MP10 Mini because of the features, build plate size, and now most of all the support. The support specialists at Monoprice are really knowledgeable and helpful, and their English is perfect so no communication issues, never have to wait long for support, and they know Cura very well which is good because it is the software I use to print my parts. The printer is well built, solid, and so far very dependable, some of my prints take close to 6 hrs to print and not one has failed to print.
