BEST ANSWER: I like these 3-way speakers for TV and movies. The frequency response give a good full sound. The mid-range driver really bring the dialog forward in the mix.

I bought these for the left and right channels for my surround sound system. I also bought the matching center channel speaker at the same time. All three work great! What I liked best was the speakers could be adjusted for the angle that worked best, not just a fixed straight down ceiling speaker. Where I made a mistake was not buying the matching rear ceiling speakers and replace the ceiling speakers I already hand.

I have these for my L & R front channel in a 5.1 TV system and they work great. They are bright, so you want to make sure to break them in and I also used a Yamaha center and a Klipsch 12inch powered sub to round out the mids and lows, sounds very good. if you want pics or further info just post and I'll see what I can do for ya! Good luck!

Depends on how good the rest of your HT system is, and how picky you are. These are not THX certified. They are good sounding speakers but you may want to use THX certified Monolith-s, at least in the lrc positions. That is what I ended up doing, I have the Alphas in the Surround and Atmos "altitude" positions, and the 275iw-s in LRC

I professionally installed these speakers for a customer two weeks ago and his theater sounds amazing. We used them with a 90 inch 4k tv. It turned out awesome. I have installed many theaters and these speakers compete with much more expensive products. You'll be happy with these.

can these be mounted in a false wall with nothing behind them (open wall cavity that backs up to storage room). Or do I need a surround box for these?
New User U
on Jan 23, 2022
BEST ANSWER: They certainly can be physically mounted in either a wall or ceiling with no sound box befind them, however the sound quality will not nearly as good. You might notice that other stand alone speakers that sit on a book shelf or are freestanding have some very signigicant sound enclosures and for good reason. Speakers that don't have anything esle to resonate such as the enclosure or wall with a backing to it will sound much more flat, with no depth of sound. These Monoprice speaker are excellent speakers. I have 8 of them mounted in my ceilings. I purchased some inexpensive plastic storage boxes (at IKEA, but there are many others available) and put them over the back side of each speaker. I sealed them in place with some calking. It makes a hudge difference, plus in my case, it keeps the blown-in insullation out of the speakers too.

You don't need a surrounding box around them. They work fine without that. But having it will improve the speaker's bass response, though. Also, take in mind that some sound may go back into your storage room too.

They mount very well to a false wall as long as it's about 1/2-3/4" thick or more. There are 6 'dog ears' on each that fold out and grab the wall securely.
As for sound quality though, a box would improve it.

They sure will. So long as you have drywall attached to studs, or wood that the brackets can snug up to you will be fine. 1/2” or 3/4” plywood would do the trick.

Can these be installed horizontally?
A shopper
on Nov 8, 2023
BEST ANSWER: From a physical perspective, there is no reason why they cannot be mounted horizontally. Mounting brackets are equally positioned on all sides. Your challenge may come with where your studs are in conjunction with you need to positiion the speakers. If your studs are on 16" centers, you only have 14.5" of clearance inbetween them for mounting. The cutout dimensions are about 10.5" and the mounting tabs will pop out about an inch (based on memory). So in theory, it should work, you will want to spend some time measuring your layout to make sure the positioning will be satisfactory.

What wiring need to be done?
A shopper
on Dec 13, 2023
BEST ANSWER: As far as connecting to the speakers, they are ready to go! Simply strip the end of your wire and push to connect!
If you're going to go to the effort of running wiring through your walls, don't be cheap. Invest in high quality wire that is at least 14 gauge... Just my opinion. If you have more questions, just google it, there are plenty of professional articles on wire type, size and method to use when wiring your speakers/theater.

Hello,
Wanting to know what is the weight of the Magnet is on the 8 inch driver, it doesn't look real heavy but I'd like to know.
And also has anyone done a Slot Port above or below the speaker to see how much better they might sound compared to using it just in the wall sealed. I wondering if that might help for the Bass when it would hit hard in a good song. Sort of like on a sub-woofer that's Ported. They can dig deeper when Ported. So has anybody tried this yet? Thanks Ben

Very nice speakers for the money
These are truly great speakers. I would buy them again and again and again. They have that nice rounded sound that I love. I also bought the center channel and the dual woofer angle-able ones, but those (though nice and loud) sound a little too harsh for my taste. These however do not have that harshness. Def recommend!
I went to town a little on the install (77" TV spot) but well worth it. I made my own mounts.

Nice, easy install, rich sound from three way speakers, on low volume. Can tell they?ll sound crisp and clear when broken in.
Nice speakers, still running them on low volume, breaking them in, 60 to 80-hours, only 5 so far, no problem, can wait, am retired..

I have these paired into a 7.2 system in my tv room/man cave - these as LF and RF over my 75" Samsung...and the Black Back 8" in-ceiling speakers topping off two SSW 12" slim subs. This whole system kicks some serious ass....
