Are these speakers wireless?
A shopper

BEST ANSWER: Hi Shopper, No these Speakers are not the wireless type. They are great otherwise you have the ability to use the top speakers for the next generation ATMOS firing speakers and the bottom dual speakers can be used for speaker left and right or you can set this up with two wires from the speaker top and bottom speakers to one wire that connects to the stereo receiver. For the price and the size these speakers are they sound as good as bose speakers. a full sound. Hope I answered your question and added a extra thought on these 3way speakers.

No. These speakers are wired. The bottom section is rated at 4 Ohm and has it's own connection terminals on the back. The top section for atmos it 4 ohm and has its own connection terminals on the back. One will need a AV receiver that is rated at 4-8 ohms.

No not wireless, speakers have 2 sets of binding posts
in order two hook top facing speaker and front on up separately. Don’t exactly understand however hooking lower and upper speakers in parallel results in 4 ohms and work fine.

BEST ANSWER: Yes. They are well made and you can use them as back surround speakers with a 5.1 or 7.1 system. I ran a small piece of speaker wire to both leads so when I connect them to my receiver both the front and the top speaker play. The sound is awesome. Normaly, u would have to run 2 wires per surround. When I upgrade my reciever I will do that. Monoprice should add (2 ) foot long pieces of wire just for that set up but they dont. Speakers are great sounding. I'm thinking about getting the front bookshelves and doing the same thing. Glad I bought them.

You can still you these. I would wire the top speakers for the side left/right and the bottom speakers for the rear left/right. Or vice versa.
I have them, they're good, but I would say my living room is a bit too big for these speakers.
But can't complain about the price.

I have a Onkyo - TX 5.2-Ch Receiver model TX-SR393. I have the complete Monoprice 5.1 speakers. Does this require a total of two wires running from the AV to the Speakers or do I just jump the wire from the top connection on the speaker to the bottom. Can I still use these on a 5.1 system?
David F

BEST ANSWER: You can use these as a 5.1 system. I would not use a jumper wire as that is not how the speaker is designed and you will get the same signal coming out of both the front and top firing speakers.

Yes. But there are some caveats I’ll explain below.
You can jump the wire from the main rear portion of the speaker to the top and connect them to one binding post/spring terminal. I’ve done this many times in the past with good amplifiers and receivers without any problems.
But given that you have a 393 and not a high current model, I’d be very careful about overloading the amplifier. If you had at least an NR595, I’d say it wouldn’t be an issue. Most of these lower end receivers, while they can deliver 90-100 watts per channel, that rating is usually only for two speakers driven and it’s a peak wattage. In other words, that’s the maximum wattage the receiver can go up to, before it gets overloaded. Low end receivers tend to not have high quality power supplies and therefore suffer greatly from being able to deliver high current power that can efficiently give you continuous 100 watts of power.
So in your case while you can theoretically double up the speakers in this system, I wouldn’t recommend it because of the receiver you have. Upgrade the receiver with a much higher power spec and this won’t be an issue.

Yes, you can use these speakers on a 5.1 system. You will lose the top speaker for Atmos if you do this though as that requires an extra set of wires. If you jump the wires your receiver will be sending the same signal to the top and front firing speakers which isn't ideal, but it will work
I have been personally using these with a 5.1 receiver with no issues.

There are two wires running from the speakers to your AV. Think of them as 4 speakers, not 2. I don't think these would work with a 5.1 system, you'd need a 7.1 system (even though it would technically be 5.2.1 once you set it up).

Wiring in series is additive, so you'd wind up with a 4Ω+8Ω = 12Ω effective speaker. For amps that have a broad impedance handling range (like mine is 4-16Ω), that might be alright, but I think the mismatched impedance may result in one being driven harder than the other.
you could but the resulting impedance would be wrong.
if you have only 1 channel (say rear left or front left), why would you connect both (or even use these speakers)?
you do NOT want to have 5.1 using these firing the sound up. That will muddle the sound direction. i.e. that will make your 5.1 sound messy/bad.
if you do 5.1.2 (Dolby Atmos, DTS-X...) you would use separate wires for the up-firing speaker.

2.66 Ohms worst case, in theory, at resonance of woofers. However, front pair employ a filter/splitter for the tweeter/woofer pair, with a nominal 8 Ohm input. Top woofer has direct input to a 4 Ohm woofer. If you have a good quality Amp it will be fine; the cited speaker impedances occur only in a narrow frequency band.

Hard to say for sure since the online ad says 8 Ohms and the booklet that comes with the speakers says 4 Ohms.
Check your Amp or Receiver ratings near where you connect the speakers to it. If it says 4-8 or 4-16 Ohms then these speakers are compatible.

Is this because to run both drivers on one channel you'd have to wire the two in a series, dropping the load to 4? But if you were to run off two channels say on a 7.1 receiver then they would both be at 8?

Hi,
most speakers hover between 4 - 6 -8 ohms never really landing
on any 1 specific ohm load.
Now, they may run closer to a specific ohm load than another, that's true, so they get
labeled with that ohm load.
Keep in mind... it's always a good idea to use an amp or receiver that can handle the'hefty ohm loads like 6 & 4ohms.
Example:
Yamaha amps and AV receivers all drive 6 ohms and lower without even getting hot.
This means they can run about any speaker on the market today, if connected right.
Always refer to a receiver's menu to select the proper ohm setting.

Unfortunately, your receiver needs to have ONE impedance setting. Setting it for the lowest impedance of this system (4 ohms for upfiring speaker) while the rest of the speakers are rated at 8 ohms will cut your receiver output by 50% and possibly cause heating issues. I would think the speakers would ALL be 8 ohms or all 4 ohms; not a mishmash. I was ready to hit he purchase button until I downloaded the manual and noticed this issue. Pays to read the manual BEFORE buying something these days to prevent real disappointment.

Actually, these speakers are only 4.5 inches wide and the wall mount brackets that I bought will only go as wide as 5.3 inches --- so, while these brackets work, I had to mount the speakers horizontally. I did not know this when I bought everything which was a disappointment. I am not sure which mounts work as I could not find any that would work at 4.5 inches.

I have a Yamaha Aventage RX-A3070 AVR with a 7.2.4 speaker set up. It has a 5.2 speaker setup which I use a Yamaha Aventage RX-A3010 to power my Front (in-wall) and Back (in-wall) speakers set at the top of the front and rear walls 24" from each wall. I use 8 ohm speakers. Would these speakers give me more immersive sounds? If so, which speakers would I need to replace, should I purchase these speakers? I'm not familiar with 8 ohm speakers.

BEST ANSWER: Depends. I bought the surrounds and they are the best surrounds I've had. I have mine on stands. They are really made for 7.2 or higher set up. I have mine in 5.2 right now and I just used a jumper cable to run both the back& height. U need to run 2 sets of speaker wire cuz they are basically 2 seperate speakers in one cabinet. If your buying in wall speakers I can't say. But I bought the sub and it's a monster for a 10 " woofer. When I run extra wires to the surrounds and add my fronts then I will have a sweet immersive 7.2.2 setup. I have a Marantz reciever with paradigm speakers and monoprice surrounds & subwoofer in front with an 8" gunfire sub in back. Sounds just as good as the movies. I think their ceiling speakers are THX certified and the build quality is very good, I think they are trying to make a name for them selves with quality and price. Hi,
The atmos speakers from mono price are what I bought and replaced my front speakers with as there is a forward facing speaker and an upward facing speaker in each one. Your amp will have connections for each of it supports Atmos. The sound good so far for me.

They should from a basic connection standpoint, in terms of being wired speakers. However, two very important specifications are impedance and sensitivity. With a low wattage tube amp, you want the most efficient speakers you can find. Meaning high sensitivity value (mine are rated at 96db) and you would be much better off with an 8 ohm speaker than these at 4 ohms (it takes more power to drive a 4 ohm speaker). I have the Klipsch RP600M speakers and they are an incredible match for this amp. But cost $600+. Maybe look at the Klipsch lineup, though. Horn speakers are the way to go with this amp, having tested multiple speakers.

there's a lof of follow up question to ask.. for the question you asked.
I have the same Denon Receiver, and I bought the same speaker.. to use these as front Speaker / front Atoms speakers. What I quickly realized after I bought it was these speakers are 4 Ohms Speakers... and the Denon S760H push out 8 Ohms. So what I decided to do was switch out my rear surround speakers and uses these speakers... But I set them up as a Serial Connection to combine the 2 speakers (top and front woofers to combine as 1 speaker to get 8 ohms so that my receiver doesn't get blown out.

Does the speaker require an atmos receiver to make use of the upfiring speaker?
John V
on Oct 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi John V.,
ATMOS AV receiver only required if you want to use the top firing driver for ATMOS.
In fact, these speakers can be used creatively as a complete 4 speaker array in the rear
for a 7.1 surround system.
Simply connect channels 4 & 5 to the standard connections and connect 6 & 7 to the
ATMOS driver inputs on rear of the speaker, then lay the speaker on their sides
with the top speakers firing to the back of the room and you now have 2 speakers
doing the job of 4.
Turning a 5.1 setup into a 7.1 setup.
This is very effective in saving space & money.
You won't hafta' buy 2 extra speakers anymore
to turn your 5.1 system into a 7.1 surround system
if your receiver can output 7.1 surround.
This IS a very kool way to achieve 7.1 surround sound.
By the way, I have a 7.1 surround system that can run in both 5.1 & 7.1
and the 7.1 mode is far superior to 5.1.
Far superior!
So, these speakers are a true gift if calibrated and arrayed properly.

If I were using these for fronts and rears I would set it up in a 7.1.2 config. Use two up front for your left and right main as well as the top speakers for atmos. Then take the rear, mount them on the side walls about a foot higher than year height while sitting. Have them mounted sideways with the top speakers aimed to the rear. Have the main speakers wired as your 4 & 5 surround and the top speakers as your 6 & 7 surround. You could also flip that around with a rear mount and the top drivers facing the side walls. Then just get the matching center for these. About as minimalist as it gets for a 7.1.2 setup.

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
We would not offer a speaker stand that there would be able to screw into at the moment.
You could use a stand that they can stand on like #24794 or #12281.

I wouldn't use the immersive for the rear channels unless you have a system that needs up firing drivers. I think there is another set of bookshelf type speakers that might work better. If you are trying to make a full system that uses THX Certified speakers, then these aren't it, but they are decent speakers. The should work very well in mid-range systems as satellites, surrounds, or rear channel speakers. As the quality of your system moves up speakers like these should move back, and they wouldn't work well in a high end environment as their shortcomings would be showcased. (too much in the middle and not enough base).
Mine are still a little tight sounding and have more mids and less lows than I would like, but I expect that to change a little after break-in. Once they break in I expect to have decent middle of the road performance from them that pairs well with my sub-woofer. They are good inexpensive solidly performing speakers.

What type of banana plugs work well with these speaker connections? Monoprice must have some that match perfectly.

Great little height speaker!
Pleasantly surprised by the quality and sound of these units! Arrived well packed within days of ordering at my home in Ontario, Canada.
Provides a well priced option for dolby atmos up-firing speakers. Just be careful not to overdrive these units as they have limited power handling and are 4 ohm resistance. No problem with driving with my Yamaha a6a.
After purchasing I was so impressed that I purchased another pair of tower speakers from monoprice!
Thanks again monoprice!

Really Enhances My Vizio Soundbar
After much thought and consternation, I decided to give these speakers a try with my current Vizio SB36514-F6 soundbar. That bar features rear satellite speakers with both front and upper facing speakers to accommodate Dolby Atmos, which compliment the same on the main bar.
While the Vizio satellites are quite good for their size, I've been wondering for a long time if the overall sound could be improved with the Monoprice units and would they be compatible? No other reviewers have mentioned actually using a soundbar with these speakers, so, I ventured into new territory!
As with all Vizio soundbars, the satellites plug into the subwoofer via RCA pin plugs. (The sub is connected to the main bar wirelessly.) I utilized readily available adapters to go from the Vizio RCA plugs to bare wire for the installation of the Monoprice units. That was a snap, so on to testing.
Well, so far everything is positive. The the Monoprice units produce a deeper, broader and richer sound stage than do the stock units. The stock units are amazing for their size, but the Monoprice speakers just sound even better and fuller. They are somewhat larger than the Vizio units and quite substantial in appearance, definitely a 5/5.
From the start I was concerned about compatibility. I have no way to test the Ohm ratings on the Vizio, but I was very pleased to see that the Monoprice units responded well to the volume level I had previously set for the stock units. While perhaps not definitive, I have read that higher Ohms means more resistance and therefore the need for more power to get the same volume than from lower Ohm speakers. By that premise, the Vizio subwoofer seems to be pretty compatible with my new speakers, requiring no more drain on the amplifiers in the sub to perform at the proper volume level. In fact, I was able to even turn down the volume by one notch after some further listening.
Time will tell how this experiment ultimately goes, but for now, Yes!

Upgrade to Dolby Atmos
Pros: I still have about 30 Hours of break-in time to go, but so far performance is impressive. I re-ran the Auyssey setup on my Denon AVR-S750H and re-watched season 6 of "The Expanse" (which has Dolby Atmos audio) and wow.
Cons: Would have preferred 5-way binding posts to accept banana plugs, instead of spring loaded terminals.

Nice 3D Sound
These do the job they are made to do. If you want the full dynamic range of what you're listening to, these will need some assistance. They go down to about 150 Hz, but I'm guessing that they slope off rapidly once they pass the 300 Hz mark. Paired with a good sub however these sound great.
The added top speakers are what really make these stand out. They do require a separate connection for the top drivers - I paralleled those with the front driver connections and it's been doing fine.
These are made to be the primarily the tenors through altos and cover the sopranos better than the bass. But they aren't made to be the one-stop audiophile sound-space. Good for side and rear channels of 5.1 or 7.1 setup with Dolby Atmos on a budget.

Thank you for budget quality!
I am no expert. I am impressed by the sound! I'd like to break them in with my hand me down 1987 Pioneer receiver and 1991Pioneer 5 disc cd player. They will eventually go to an Onkyo Dolby Atmos receiver setup. The sound is crisp, clear and envelopes you while listening. I want to hear all of my favorite cd's to get a more in depth listening experience. So far I love them and definitely interested in purchasing more Monoprice or perhaps Monolith speakers in the future. I think that pricier speakers might sound better, but I am a firm believer that Monoprice wants to put out quality products at an affordable price and are proud of the products they sell. Everyone should be able to hear the music that they love with quality without going broke. And I thank them for that and cannot wait to hear more of what they have to offer!

These Speakers Are Everything!!!
I was doing some research into getting some Dolby Atmos speakers because the ones I already owned was not producing the sound I was hoping for, so I scoured the internet and your speakers popped up, and I was intrigued, not just by the speaker but also the affordability. So I figured I'd go to Monoprice's website and get some more information on them, and after seeing them and looking at other speakers, I decided to go with the Monoprice, and let me just say that these speakers do not disappoint, the sound is incredible. Subtle sounds that I didn't notice before, I noticed it with these speakers. If you are on a tight , these speakers do not disappoint, give them a shot and let them show you what they can do...
