Yes. The unit only has feet on the bottom but works fine vertically or horizontally. Just make sure there is some space for air to circulate around the speaker and amplifier. I have mine on its side up against the wall behind the TV stand. It ships with wall mounting brackets as well.

Yes, it can. The feet must remain attached to allow room for the amp cooling fins and movement of the speaker.
It actually can be attached to the wall off the ground if you want and ships with the necessary brackets. That was an intent in how they designed it.

Yes, it comes with wall mount brackets, and also foot-style brackets for it to sit on a vertical edge. There will be about a 2" space due to the amp heat-sink and wires. I ordered 90 degree RCA adapters on the "AZ rain forest" shopping site.

Can the legs come off? I want to put two of these under my sofa at each end.
AARON O
on Aug 8, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately, you need the legs on. All of the controls that are normally on the back of an amplifier are on the bottom of this one. This includes the power cord, the jacks for the input signal, the on-off switch, and the volume/balance controls. Also, there is a large heat sink on the bottom of the amp that reaches almost to the floor, so even if you took the legs off the heat sink would hold the amp at nearly the same height. And besides all that, the speaker is on the bottom, pointing at the floor. Without that gap, the sound quality would be diminished. Sorry!

You technically could do this if you invert them and fire the woofer upward but there are still elements that protrude on the same side as the woofer. Look at the pictures and you will see the heatsink etc.

They do come off, however there is a heat sink that is just shorter than the legs, so you will still have that to contend with. Also, the speaker cone needs to be able to travel to move air, so you would have to make sure you face it upwards if you take the legs off.

The legs can come off, but you cannot lay this on the floor. There is an on-board amplifier and wiring which is needed to provide power and signal to the amp, along with passive cooling. This cannot lay flat.

Yes, but there is a bar that crosses over the sub to protect it. So, It would not lay flat in the downfiring position. It would lay flat up firing. But again the bar may hit something.

Not very good honestly. I ordered the Onix series 38079 and it does NOT fit. When an rca cable is plugged in, you have a maximum of 1 3/4" to make a 90 degree turn measured from the end of the outside metal ring collar. I would recommend some rca cables that have 90 degree ends already if you want higher quality cables. Lower quality 90 degree 6' cable with 2 white male and 2 red male ends was included in the box. If you only have a single cable coming from your receiver you will need a wye splitter. Decent sub for the price though. Don't expect it to rattle the windows.

You can detach the feet however there is a good sized heat sink on the back face not to mention the subwoofer surround also protrudes from this side. Basically the dimensions with the feet are about as small as they could be without having interference with the heatsink and travel on the sub speaker itself.

Could the wall-mount bracket be used to mount this under the floor in a joist bay?
A shopper
on May 8, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The bracket is a stubby C shaped bracket with little eye hooks the subwoofer hangs on. You should be able to do what u want if u have enough width between the joists. It may be easier to connect some wood blocks between the joists like ledges or make a platform to sit the subwoofer on instead of using the brackets. If so sit the subwoofer on some insulation or rubber to reduce vibrations

Since they are designed to also be wall mounted, I do no see why not. However, please plan accordingly: size, access for repair, running the speaker wire & power cord... Also, consider the effect it would have on your sound. Would recommend a “trial” in a mock setting.

Will this work on carpet or do you recommend a hard surface? That heat sink looks like it could get super hot.
Travis B
on Oct 31, 2018
The heat sinks on any amplifier should not get "super hot' if designed properly. More importantly if it has been tested by Underwriter's Laboratory then that aspect of performance has already been assessed. No residential electronics device shall create a fire hazard. You should be able to play any audio electronics at a moderate listening level and be able to keep your hands on the heat sink comfortably.

I can't give a definitive answer, but from personal experience with the product positioned under my queen size bed I'd say 150 W peak. It's a short throw subwoofer so at high volume you'll hear the woofer over exert itself. If positioned in a corner, it'll meet a small rooms needs reasonably. If you prefer more bass or have a larger room you can chain more than subwoofer via the RCA in/outs.

It shouldn’t matter to you, unless you plan to dig in to the enclosure and measure it yourself. For a low profile subwoofer, this is a great product with sound that really impressed me. I found it to be an impressive purchase. I own three HSU subs for my main systems, so I know what a great sub sounds like.

Oddly enough, the replacement unit was humming today for the first time ever (at least that I have heard) when I walked in the room and I thought it was going to start acting like the original unit when I realized it was only doing it as my wife was using her hair dryer 3 rooms away. As soon as she turned off the hair dryer the subwoofer hum stopped. I made her turn it back on and the hum was there, flipped it back off and hum was gone. Maybe these things are just sensitive to current draw.

I use a Topping D50s DAC and go optical out from TV to DAC, and then RCA cables from DAC to Monoprice SSW-10, and then RCA cables from Monoprice to a Cambridge Soundbase. The DAC controls the output volume of the Monoprice and Soundbase. I connect via Bluetooth to the Topping DAC for streaming music, and use the optical connection for TV sound. If your TV has Bluetooth audio output, you should be able to connect it without the optical cable.

When placing a ssw-10 subwoofer upright behind the entertainment center, should the speaker face the wall or away from the wall?

Nearly EVERY powered subwoofer has High-Level Speaker inputs as well as RCA line level inputs. The speaker inputs are for those receivers or amplifiers that don't have a dedicated Subwoofer 'filtered' RCA output jack. The speaker input of these powered subwoofers have resistor-divider attenuators that brings the 'volts' of your amplifier's output down to the 100's of millivolts necessary to drive the input of the subwoofer's line-level inputs..

How big a room would this work for?
Would it perform adequately in a venue such as a clubhouse which is approx 50' x 60' x 30' with an audience of about 150 people?
if not, how many would I need to string together?

Yes, use an RCA cable. You can either get a Y splitter to utilize both inputs, or just plug it into the L input.

As explained in the owner's manual, it does indeed have an LFE connection -- From the owner's manual: "2. RCA Phono Jacks: These accept a line level full range signal from the pre-amplifier output of a receiver or preampflier. This full range signal is processed and amplified to power the subwoofer. Use the left "L" input if using LFE output from Audio Video Receiver.

Why there is no Phase Toggle Switch for SSW-10?

BEST ANSWER: There is a phase toggle on this subwoofer. It’s a little hard to see but it’s there. I used it already and I have this exact unit just purchased in last few weeks. The main reason I used it was to reduce the hum. After trying some other things first, changing the phase seemed to help the most. Virtually no hum now.

BEST ANSWER: I suppose you could as long as you have access if a problem arises. I never thought to mount it in ceiling. It would be interesting to see how you would do that because it's not as small as the pic makes it out to be. It does not fit under my sofa as I intended, so I had to put it behind it.

Yes, as the mounting brackets are on the underside. You would want to make sure to secure it to studs. However, the sub would be firing up at your ceiling, which (along with the overhead placement) would make it much less effective.

Punch and bang for the buck!
I own the 8" version and it's ok for getting some extended bass on a small system. I've had it for at least ten years and love the size. I needed another small sub and found the 10'"on sale and pulled the trigger. Man, this thing is huge compared to the 8" and WOW the output is crazy loud and clean compared to the 8". I had to lower the output and crossover to get it just right and I'm telling you this thing rocks. I own high end subs for my main systems and this 10" compares favorably to them at a quarter of the price. Well done Monoprice!

Taller than you think
When I got it in, it was WAY taller than the pictures make it look. Trying to fit it under the couch was laughable; I never even fired it up to check sound.
My fault for not checking the dimensions, but unless you have an ultra-modern couch with legs like the dame walking into a pulp gumshoe's office, you too should check that height dimension.

Annoying hum
Doesn't matter if the unit is connected or not, signal or no signal. When powered on, there is an annoying mid-range hum. It doesn't appear to be coming from the speaker so I suspect an transformer or capacitor. Thankfully it's not located near where we sit so it's not real audible. If it had been installed near the couch, I would have to return it.

Needs smaller room
Nice package and feels substantial. My main issue is the lack of low- end punch similar to what other reviewers describe. I suspect the unit is a bit small for the space I wanted to use it in but may re-purpose it to another, smaller location.
My hope was that this unit would be able to be hidden away better than the current sub I'm using but the performance difference won't allow it and my wife won't be thrilled!

Would buy again
Using the 10? in my 280 sq ft. patio bar area to compliment a pair of Klipsch AW-650 outdoor speakers. The sub is rated down to 25 hz but in reality it rolls off much higher than that. Give it time to break in, it will sound better. Hip hop bottom end will be lacking but it?s great for everything else. Would recommend for folks that do not need to shake the foundations.

I use my SSW-10 paired with Polk R200's in a 12 x 14 room. I have it vertically orientated on the included stand behind an arm chair. This guy gets the job done. Very happy with the quality of this compact and physically versatile subwoofer.
