I think it should perform alright. Even though the speaker is floor-facing, the sound is emitted through a side-facing port. Mine is set on a low bookshelf - so the sound bounces off wood as well. Overall, I've been happy with the performance and sound quality for the price.

Sorry, I don't have mine on carpet. I have it in a coat closer that's at one end of our family room. Works great there. As good or better than a 12 inch Sony it replaced.

What soundbar is compatible? How would you connect to a soundbar?
A shopper
on Mar 26, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
Unless the soundbar would have a subwoofer out port we would not know how you could connect this to a soundbar.
We would not make a soundbar with such a connection so we would not have a recommendation.
Sorry about any inconvenience this may have caused.

My sound bar has a wireless subwoofer so I don’t use the Monoprice sub with it but if you sound bar has an output jack I would think you could plug in to it. You will need a Y or 2 into 1 cable to plug into the soundbar

Are there any photos of the wall mount hardware? Can the sub sit vertically on the floor without additional hardware?
Christopher B
on Nov 26, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi there, yes the sub can sit vertically on the floor without additional hardware. It comes with two plastic stands that support it vertically. That is how I have mine positioned, vertically at the end of the couch between the couch and end table. Works very well this way and minimizes the visibility.
I do not need the mounting bracket so I have it set aside. IIRC It is just a metal bar about 1” wide that fits into brackets in the sub.
Overall I am happy with the looks and quality especially for the price.

The wall mount is attached to the speaker but can be removed. It has keyhole slots for mounting. There are two removable feet to use for floor mount. Mine is on the floor. Sounds good. The auto on function works well.

Do the feet stick out further than the sub’s cabinet? Do they work vertically whether the sub is laid tall or low? As in, standing the sub so it’s a full 21” or so tall?

Curious how the distance to the nearest hard surface affects this subs performance. For instance, if you aim this at the bottom of a sofa (hanging) -soundwise, isn't that going to be allot different than a hard floor? Also if you raise the sub off the floor higher than the feet lift it. Is the performance the same?

Anytime you place a low frequency driver near a reflective surface, the output level increases. I placed the 8” Monoprice on vertical positioning feet , basically against the wall, and output increased. Then tried it in a coner, 4 pye(no symbol for pye), and output increased further. But resonances also increased. If using receiver with some type of room correction, Audiussey, REW, etc, this get you most output.
If looking to vibrate a seated surface, like a sofa, better off with tactile transducer. As a $100 sub, seems to go quite low, just limited output. May try 10” inch, have one one the way. Again, a bargain, being a custom install certified installer for decades. Corner location, most output, wall/floor boundary, 2 pye, 2nd, middle or away from wall, the least. As to height from floor, that will effect resonance peaks, haven’t tried, but guess would be to use the attached feet. Good luck

I have the Monoprice 8" powered subwoofer and have the speaker connected to the RCA sub out ports of this unit, but the line output does not vary with the amplifier volume. Is this how it's supposed to work? Can't imagine it being very useful if the volume needs to be adjusted on the sub every time the volume is changed on the amplifier.

BEST ANSWER: First thing to clarify is that the RCA connectors on the sub are Line In ports, not sub out ports. The question that needs to be answered is to what port on your amplifier do you have the RCA connectors on the sub connected?
You have three choices that will provide amplifier volume adjustments to the sub.
1) If your amplifier has a Sub Out jack, I suggest you use that. Typically the sub out jack on an amplifier is a single RCA connector. If this is your case, then you should use a splitter cable so you can connect to both of the RCA connectors on the sub. Using the sub out port on your amplifier will send only low frequencies to the sub (according the the specifications of your amplifier). If you use this method, then you should NOT use the speaker outputs on the sub to connect to your main L & R speakers. For me, this is the preferred method.
2) The second method you can use, is to connect your main L & R speaker outputs from your amplifier to the RCA Line In connectors on the sub. You can use this method both if your amplifier HAS a sub out connector, and if your amplifier DOES NOT have a sub out connector. In this case, you can connect your main L & R speakers to the speaker connectors on the sub because the sub will be receiving a full spectrum signal from your amp, although you don't have to. You can still connect the main L & R speakers apart from the sub.
3) The third method can be used if your amplifier does NOT have a sub out connector and yo do not want to connect the Main L & R speaker outputs to the sub. In this case, use the Tape Out connectors (or any Record Out connectors) on your amplifier to connect to the Line In RCA ports on the sub. This will provide Line level volume control to the sub.
All three of these methods should provide line level volume control to the sub that will adjust up and down along with the L & R speakers. I hope this helps.

If you have a sub with L and R Sub-In ports then connect both to your L and R Sub-out ports on the amp. If your sub has only one Sub-in port then use a Y connector on the sub and both Sub-out ports on the amp.
But that's the problem. the 2 ports on the amp are not labled L or R and both of them are RED. not one red one white.

What amp do you have? This conversation links to the Monoprice 25 Watt Tube Amp. The connections on that amp look like they are both black, but look to me that one is L and one is R. Sub out on an amp should have volume control. I should ask what is the use? Music? If music, then using the speaker outputs of the amp to the speaker inputs on the sub would be best.
thanks for your answers and your time. i finally took a chance and got it working. i hooked one RCA cable to one of the subout ports on the amp and the RED input port on the subwoofer. it works BUT of course no volume on the subwoofer from the amp volume adjustment to fixing that is my next step.

This is truly a problem of the amplifier, not the subwoofer. However one can avoid this problem by using speaker line in with a little more complicated connection.

It won't be flat against the wall due to all the controls and inputs on the bottom. Plus, it has four foot pegs it would sit on in normal configuration. Using the bracket provided, it will sit approx 1 to 1.5 inches off the wall. You would also have the ability to stand it on end using the plastic cradles provided.

My stereo has 1 rca output and the subwoofer has 2 inputs. I have not been able to find a 2 into 1 rca cable that has all male connectors. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how did you solve it?

I have a small amplifier with a sub output that is powered. Can I still connect it to this sub even thought the sub is also powered?

I noticed this model only has speaker level "IN" and not "OUT" (like the SSW-10). How do I get the speaker level signal to continue from the sub to my bookshelf speakers without an "OUT"?
Also, my budget Cambridge Topaz Integrated amp has an RCA "Rec Out" - would that work as a line in level source to the sub? Better than speaker level source?

Nicely fills out the audio, neatly ticks away.
Puts out excellent sound powered by a usb amp/dac connected to my desktop PC plus two well rounded sound Jack terriers. No cracking or missing. Really fills out the audio and tucks away.

Slotted perfect under my office console.

Skinny BOOM for the mancl cave room!!
Had a noticable scratch but no damage to the shipping box. I didn't worry since it worked great regardless. Lots of boom boom for the man room . I like the option to leave it upright or flat. Which makes placement so much better then my old sub. I'm happy with it.

Nice basic subwoofer
Happy with this purchase. I have paired them with my Presonic Ceres 3.5 BT studio monitor speakers, and this pairing gives them just the bass punch that they need. I especially appreciate the standby mode when the subwoofer does not detect an audio signal, and which turns the unit on and off automatically. I found that you have to give the new subwoofer a bit of play time in order to for it to settle in and achieve its true sound potential. Recommended.

Impressive little sub
Wow this things is very impressive for its size and price. I have to keep it turned down so my wife doesn’t complain about the floor vibrating upstairs. At first I wasn’t to thrilled with it but after a week or two of use and playing with the settings it really hits.

Perfect for Desktop
I bought the 8-in version to use with a pair of Edifier R1280ts bookshelf speakers, which I use with my desktop PC for music applications. It fits nicely in a tight space under my desk, and extends the bass through the audible range seamlessly. The result is a $200 desktop nearfield monitor system that sounds unconstrained and unstrained.
