Can this be used for older usb (1 or 2) peripherals like a keyboard and mouse?

BEST ANSWER: I plugged in an old usb dell keyboard and a usb mouse and both worked okay. Both worked as intended. Any pointing devices are somewhat buggy on the pro 11 with the iOS 13. I haven’t checked the new 13.2.2 yet, but they’re getting better and better with the new updates.

Yes you can plug USB 1.0 and USB 2.0 male connectors into the 2-USB 3.0 ports of this adapter. The transfer speeds of your older peripherals won’t improve, but should function.

Yes. My current set up is to use this one with a wired mouse and a weird keyboard (both old fashion USB-A), and it can still charge my MacBook with the right most USB-C port.

I use my ducky mini one2 rgb mechanical keyboard thru it just fine. I also use Older 2.0 flash drives thru it flawlessly. I'd imagine you'd be good to go.

Can I plug this in "backwards"? I want the short attached usb-c cable plugged into my power supply, and a longer detachable cable plugged into my laptop. Does this work for both power and data? Can someone try and share results – thank you in advance!

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
The signal on these devices would only go one way so you cannot use them "backwards".

I don't own this but you might consider a male to female cable for that sort of setup.

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
Those ports are specifically for charging and syncing data.
We cannot guarantee they would work with USB-C to Display Port cables.

Does this device utilize the end device (what's attached to the folding/fixed USB-C cable) to determine USB-PD requirements? Or is the negotiation handled at a port to port basis? Or to put this another way - can I use this product to charge a device via the fixed USB-C connector (a device that does not support USBC-PD), with a USB-PD compatible power source plugged into the USB-C PD upstream port, and still have 1.5A available at a USB type A 3.0 port, and 500mA or so at the other?
I'm basically looking for a device that uses USB-PD to created a powered hub that can charge both USB-C and USB-A type devices.

good but has issues
When this hub is plugged into power, there is a significant coil whine. When paired with my MacBook 12, I cannot work with it plugged in due to the coil whine.
It also loses connection every time you plug or unplug power to the PD port. usually not an issue, but I'm tired of getting the "improper device removal" warning.

Not working for power or video.
This USB C hub can't pass power nor video. I tried to use it with my USB C charger and it doesnt charge the tablet. Same situation if i try to pass video signal to a monitor.
Maybe my product is a defective, so I am returning it to Monoprice for a replacement or refund.

great USB-C hub for my MacBook Pro
It's small, simple, yet powerful. It uses only one USB-C port on my laptop and provides a USB-C 10G connection, another USB-C for 100w power delivery from my laptop charger, and two USB-A connections. This is the 3rd USB-C hub I've tried and bests the previous two (more expensive) brands by far.
