I bought this to use to make Cat 6A shielded cables using solely Monoprice supplies. Monoprice does not appear to sell the correct crimping tool for their own cables, and I had to remove the punch from this tool to use it with shielded plugs. Monoprice made it very difficult to find the correct supplies on their website by not providing sufficient product descriptions or other resources.

makes fast work of terminating cables. I think it's adjustable too, but it worked right out of the box for me. If I were to knock it for anything, the cutting blade could be a little wider just so you don't have to aim. Seems like it is very well built too (very solid).

Nothing like a crappy crimper tool to make you look incompetent on the job. Spare yourself the Amazon knockoffs and buy this one!

Very effective tool, even for a beginner. Wired up my whole house (new construction) for Ethernet and had 568b protocol down pat after about an hours worth of practice

Very nice crimping tool - high quality feel and construction. Has limited features compared to some 'do-it-all' tools, and I don't believe it works well for Cat6A cable sold by Monoprice, but is very good at its intended task.

I ended up carrying three tools to do the jobs that this one should have done. It crimps down very well and easily on rj45, but I had to carry another tool to strip cat6a insulation jacket off of the cabling and another to cut the CAT6A cabling. I did this because that cabling is so large it fit very poorly into the tools designed areas of cutting and stripping. Stripping was the hardest to do because of the ratcheting feature of the tool. There are two ways to release the ratcheting feature, completely close the tool (which would cut what you're trying to strip), or squeeze it slightly more than you want to and twist a ratchet lock release to unlock it (which could again cut the conductor insulation when you just want to take the cable jacket off).

I'm a network cabling noob and bought these because of the good reviews and great price.

They work great. My first couple of tries were flubs, but once I got the hang of it, the cables I made worked great.

As other reviewers have noted, the jacket cutting/stripping function leaves something to be desired. I wish I had bought a cheap jacket cutter to go along with this, but if you take your time you can get a decent slice on the jacket (without nicking the wires inside) but you have to be careful.

All in all I'm very pleased with this tool. Should last me a lifetime (as I'm approaching 70).

Works well for the price. Has a good feel and weight. A minor effort to get the connector to release versus a more expensive one I have used in the past. But well up to the task. I haven't figure out how the ratchet release works but haven't needed it.

I love the crimper, but after making about 50 cables, the razors are wearing out. Monoprice has no replacement razors, so I guess it is seen as disposable.
5 stars for the tool itself. 2 stars for the longevity. Total 3.5 stars.
