How does the bare wire attach to the connector? Are there set screws to hold the wire? Any illustrations?

BEST ANSWER: Each connector has an interior part I will refer to as the "barrel", and a pair of "collars" that thread on to the barrel at each end (in the front of the connector and the back of it). There's also a nut that threads on to the barrel in the back to hold it to the faceplate. The bare wire is passed through a hole drilled into the barrel on the rear side of the connector, and is held in place by the rear collar. No set screws or solderable terminals are in evidence. There are slots cut into the collars that permit a large flat blade screwdriver to be used to turn the collars, which I think is better that using pliers.

The rear wire is attached to the Binding Post by inserting the wire through a hole across the rear of the Binding Post then tightening a nut on the rear the Binding Post to secure the wire. It is convenient and secure and requires no soldering. I cannot send a picture since it is installed in a house located 11 hours away. It would be useful if Monoprice had a pic of the rear of the post.

Two methods of attaching the wire: 1) unscrew the outer sheathing of the banana (female) plugs and attach wire by placing it in a hole under the sheathing and screw the sheathing down to tighten or 2) attach banana (male) plugs to the speaker wires on both sides and plug in to the female plugs of the wall plate.

BEST ANSWER: You probably could, though the backside isnt made for bare wire, compared to some other products that would be better suited.

1. Can it accommodate 12 gauge bare wire. 2. Are the color rings painted on?

BEST ANSWER: 12ga works well in it. Color rings seem to be paint... could be epoxy. Very durable. Have not run into any issues with the color coming off or wearing.

I need to connect 4 speakers, 2 in the kitchen & 2 in the dining room. Currently, only the dining room speakers are being used because my A/V receiver is only 2 zone, with the main 5.1 in the living room. Would you recommend installing 2 of these or one of the similar product for 4 speakers?

I want to use these in a 2 gang setup. What brand of wall plates work? I tried the Leviton 2 gang plate and the inserts are a tad bigger.

Alignment slightly off
The wall plate screw hole alignment is slightly off making it difficult but not impossible to secure the wall plate. The connector build is fine but the plastic feels like it could snap at any moment, although it never did. Good instructions included.

Perfect fit.
This Banana binding post is perfect for home theater enthusiasts, when installing a home theater system. When you don?t want the site of wires running from one end of the room to the other, when you can hide then in the wall.

Good but not great
Decent quality for the price. Wall plate is not flush with the wall because of the screw holding the terminal is too big/long.
