Does this have any kind of cable management? We're looking at purchasing these and putting them into a 2x3 (6-pack) combination, but I wasn't sure how power could run to each easily if they are at different heights.

Monoprice 3-piece Desktop for Motorized and Manual-Crank Height Adjustable Desks, Black
Monoprice Sit-Stand Single Motor Height Adjustable Table Desk Frame, Electric, Black
BEST ANSWER: There is a small cable management box that attaches to the main cross bar underneath of the tabletop. We have similar setups and used surge protectors with 10' chords. The surge protector fits nicely inside the cable management box along with the power adapter for the table. This way, each desk has their own surge protector that moves up and down with the desk. We also used Adhesive Cable Clips to attach the extension chord to the inside of one of the legs. Just be sure to leave enough slack for when the desk is raised into the standing position.

It’s a nice product and works well but it has a single power cord, going to a single power pack and then motor controller, and then the motor. You would have to plug each one in to a power strip individually and then raise and lower each table separately - I can’t see anyway that six would be able to go up and down all in synchrony from one controller. If you are asking about simple cable routing, it is just a normal 110v cord coming down from each table - you could plug that in wherever you want and all 6 in a power strip would be no problem. The motor controllers also can be mounted on any edge of a top that you install, so they could be somewhat grouped.

In our case, I have bought a 8' extension cord (white because my table is also white) and attached it with white zip ties along the legs of the table. Then I made sure that there was enough slack from the extension cord to cover the range of different heights. Home Depot has these cool extension cords with designs that will make the look more appealing. We use our table as a craft table and we connect all of our tools to the same extension cord that the table is connected to. Hope this helps.

There is not much there to attach cables to. I Just put some small screws directly into the underside of the desk for cable clips. and then ran my cords where ever I needed them. Worked great for me. For 1 power source attaching all 6 desks, you will need cords hanging down with extra length so you can adjust them at random and not have any issues. Any desk system you use will have this same "cable" problem though.

There is a small try that can be placed anywhere on the center crossbar and locked into place. It is only about 16-20 inches wide (my estimate now when I am away from the desk), which I have found to be barely enough space for the cord management needed underneath the desk. I believe there were a few small sticky clips to hold the cords for the button module, but not enough for additional cords not provided.

Yes.
There is a cable management system. However, I had to allow extra length on the internet cord. I also attached a five outlet power cord extension on the stationary part of the leg of the desk. All of my equipments are plugged into the extension. The extension cord Itself is plugged into the wall outlet. Hope this helps.

Yes, it comes with a round adhesive clip that you can stick to the underside of the desk to hold the cables. There is also a tray that mounts underneath that will hold cables you lay in it. You can make it look pretty tidy even when moving between different heights.

It has a small tray on the horizontal bar that holds the power supply for the motor and a couple of stick-on cable holders to support the power cable going from tray to motor and control. That tray can hold a couple more items.

It just has the holes in the surface of the desk top. No other cable management. Monoprice does offer a number of add-on cable management pieces that would probably work for you.

There really isn't any cable management built in except for the holes. You would need to install something yourself.

Can the two outer panels be assembled without the center section to make a shorter top?
Robert
on Jul 27, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes outer 2 pieces can be used to make shorter desk, not sure if pre-drilled holes will accommodate the screwing process. You may have to drill little bit to fix the pieces to table stand. It’s good buy but make sure the table top is not damaged in shipping process before you take out whole pieces from box. I would recommend this product

I have this desk and it really does not look like that would work. I think the problem would be that the metal crossbars will barely not collapse together close enough for the holes to line up. You would need to drill
new holes.

Is there a recommended minimum thickness for the desktop that this mount should should be clamped to? I am looking to mount it to a desktop that I got from monoprice (33085 - linked on the question), but it is only 3/4" thick particle board, which feels a little thin/weak for this mount and my 3 27" monitors (about 12 lbs each). Any suggestions?

What is the load capacity?
Terry B
on Jan 18, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi, this desktop does not have a specific load capacity since its strength would largely depend on the desk frame and how the desktop is supported. These will work with Monoprice sit-stand desk frames and will surpass the weight ratings of the frames (176+ lbs). If using with other desk frames, just avoid or minimize unsupported overhangs where the desktops won't be able to support as much weight. Hope this helps.

BEST ANSWER: Hi, we have not tested the application you described so we cannot guarantee that it would work and have long term durability. You are correct that this top was originally designed to mount on a desk frame, where the legs themselves are mounted to the frame that provides a stable platform. If you have a way to create a stable frame, you could mount this on top. I would recommend against mounting legs directly on the top. Thanks for checking.

Nice Desktop, Would Recommend
It's a really nice desktop. Durable (so far anyway), robust, etc. There are obviously ridges between the three pieces but I don't find that it affects my day-to-day workflow.
My only problem with it, and the reason why I give 4 stars instead of 5, is that one of the cross braces for the top didn't have the holes drilled out on one side. I decided to drill them out myself as I had the desk almost entirely built and didn't want to leave myself with a half finished project while I waited for parts.

3-piece top & manual-crank base works fine.
Very good price/performance item. I got the 3-piece desktop and mounted it on the manual-crank base.
The desktop is OK. I had to assemble the 3 pieces, and the fit & finish is not as smooth and desirable as what a single-piece top would be. You end up with two seams that run from front to back, and they're not "seamless". You will feel the seam if you run a mouse over it, for instance. Other than that, I have not found the seams to be a problem; and a mouse pad covering the seam easily solved that minor one. The 3-piece design makes it a much more ship-able product.
I did have to drill holes on the underside in order to make screw-holes to match the mounting bracket of the top of the base. Since the base does not have a default width (width is adjustable to accommodate any top), I do not see any way to avoid drilling your own holes so that they will line up with your desired base width.
The base is fine. After 3 or 4 weeks now, so far so good. I got the manual crank model, so am not expecting raising/lowering issues. The handle itself is plastic and could be more substantial, but no problems yet.
Overall, I'm pleased with the product. Shipping was fine; everything arrived intact and works. If you're looking for a sturdy standing desk combo for an economic price, yes I would recommend it.

Great desk overall, desktop itself just OK
I use this with the motorized sit/stand desk frame, and overall it is awesome! The desktop itself is OK but the weakest part of the combined solution. The 3-piece aspect is of course great for shipping, but they don't fit completely 100% flush, though close enough. I was surprised how thin it was: Its specs say 1.6" thickness, but the desktop itself is only 0.6", the rest is the metal bar underneath tying the pieces together. And the laminated surface, while sturdy, is a magnet for fingerprint grease, has to be be wiped every day. On the positive side, it the predrilled holes made it very easy to fit on the desk frame. And again, the combined solution is just awesome, and highly recommended.

Not compatible with advertised desk models
Per the manual this should be compatible with my Monoprice electric desk P/N 21590. It is NOT. The holes do not line up with the bracket.
