Can this be used to turn a light on ? Meaning if the door this is on is opened then a smart plug powers on and whatever is plugged into that smart plug turns on(Say a lamp)

BEST ANSWER: Yes, this device is capable of triggering other compatible STITCH devices on (such as a smart plug powering a lamp, or a smart bulb, etc...). To achieve this, go into the STITCH app, select "Smart" to create your scene or automated control. Set your conditions of the door sensor, and define the execution of a another device. Such as, "if door is open, turn on smart bulb." Or, "if front door is open, sound the STITCH Siren alarm."

You would have to be more specific, but are you envisioning some Rube Goldberg time space distortion with 2500 parts that.....turns on a light? Because the most physical thing this sensor will do is to send you a push notification saying that your door or window is open.
But you could have it trigger something else, which triggers something else, and so on.

Yes, this can be achieved via the STITCH app or even with Alexa. I have mine setup to turn on my entrance light when the door is opened. Works great!

Unfortunately I don't think possible at this price point. It works great for what it does, but you probably need extra gear to do what you want.

how long does the battery last?

BEST ANSWER: Depends on how often you use the door. I have 2. 1 on garage door to house and 1 on front door. I use the garage door very often. The front door seldom. Garage door 3-4 months. The front door over a year, haven't replaced them yet.

Depends on how often the door is open and shut. If the door is rarely used - I’ve had batteries last 1-2 months maybe longer. The doors that are used multiple times a day - batteries last a month or so.

I recharge the AAA battery in mine every 3-4 months. But depends a bit on how heavily trafficked the door is.

BEST ANSWER: The STITCH Door/Window sensor does not make an audible sound; however, once it's paired with your phone you should be able to turn up notification so it will play a sound through your smartphone and tablet.

The sensor makes no sound. There is however a light that blinks on when the sensor registered a door open or close event. If the sensor is paired to Alexa, the Alexa device can be programmed to perform actions.

BEST ANSWER: Once the sensor is connected to WiFi at setup, the phone will not have to be connected to the same Wifi network. As long as your phone is on a data plan with your mobile carrier, or your phone is connected to any Wi-Fi network. you would receive notifications on your phone when the sensor is triggered anywhere.

No. The notification can be received on your phone, regardless of which Wifi network to which it is connected. My father and I share an account, and he received the notifications on his phone in Florida at the same time as I received them in Eastern Canada.

I'm unclear on what you mean by "have the light on until the door is closed". The way this sensor works is that it can give a notification to the STITCH app on your phone about a of the sensor. As such, you can get a notification on your phone when the door goes from opened to closed, or when the door goes from closed to open, or both. As for the status of the light emitting diode (LED) on the sensor itself, it simply briefly flashes when the status of the sensor changes. So, for the most part, unless you are pairing the sensor with the STITCH app (when the the LED continuously flashes RED until it is paired), the light on the sensor is , both when in the or state. I hope that this assists.

What is the activation distance? In other words, how close does the magnet and sensor have to be to register? Does the sensor "de-bounce" the signal? Or will it show multiple activations if you hover the sensor near the sensing distance? Is there any hysteresis effect in how it senses opening distance vs. closing distance?

STITCH by Monoprice Wireless Smart Door/Window Sensor; Works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for Touchless Voice Control, No Hub Required (2-Pack)

Monoprice Z-Wave Door and Window Sensor - (replacement sku is 15270)

STITCH by Monoprice Wireless Smart Door/Window Sensor; Works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for Touchless Voice Control, No Hub Required
BEST ANSWER: We suggest the sensor and the magnet should be mounted no more than 0.4" (10mm) from each other to register a signal. When the magnet and sensor comes close together you will receive a notification that the door is close. Once apart the device will register the door is open. If the you hover the sensor within the sensing distance it should read as a closed door unless it reaches beyond the sensing distance.

Can this be used as a standalone product? A product that would work with the app but not part of an actual alarm system. I just want to be notified if the doors open or not. I don't have an alarm system and I don't want to buy one.

BEST ANSWER: Yes, you can use this item as a stand alone unit. The is the beauty of STITCH as each device can act alone or within a group of devices. You do not need an alarm system to get notified whether the door is open or close. There there's a chance in status you will receive a notification directly to your mobile device.

Doesnt work
After several tries, I finally got one of the devices to pair with my WiFi and the iPhone app by using the alternate method described in the instructions. I have not been able to get the second one to function after many attempts.
The app allowed me to submit a trouble report. I havent been contacted yet. Very frustrating, to say the least.

Simple to setup and use
Bought 4 of these and they were all extremely simple to setup in the Stitch app and connect to my existing Alexa network of devices. Installing the batteries was a bit of a challenge, as the back cover was difficult to remove on all 4 devices; but only a minor complaint. Love these and would buy again.
