I have hardwood floors, so I passed on using the spikes.
I tried using felt feet but that allowed to much side to side sway with a heavy speaker on top.
--> I went with screw in feet with a plastic bottom.
They can be adjusted to level (front to back and side to side).
I pitch mine just a touch back to get the tweeters pointing at ear level in my listening position.
They can be slid around real easy for adjusting the positioning ( and vacuuming etc..) without harming the floor.
I would suggest these ship with screw in flat feet, just so much more useful than spikes in most cases.
I would also suggest using larger rubber nubs (1/2 sphere, flat part down) between the top plate and the speaker.

The spikes arrive in a bag and are not required to be added. If placing the stand on hardwood, tile, etc. then rubber mounts can be purchased so the metal base is not resting on the floor. This allows independent height adjustment to keep the stand from wobbling. I got M8 rubber mounts with a D30mmxH20mm pad. Please note that the M8 is the thread size which cannot be changed, but the pad size can differ as needed.

Use hi fi speakers spike shoes available from Amazon or elsewhere to protect your tiled floor. The spikes work well and should not be removed.

I used floor protector "shoes" from another vendor under the spikes. Also put stick-on felt pads on the floor protectors to allow the stands to be slid for floor cleaning. I suggest installing the spikes and leveling the base in place before any other assembly. Finally, also before assembly, I centered the top plate on the bottom of my speakers and applied "L" shaped felt pads to the speaker at the plate corners, so it can always be accurately placed and never jostled out of place. With this system it is easy to move the stand and speaker for cleaning and put it back in place with everything remaining centered.

These are the most stable stands I’ve found without using the screw in feet. Other brands were wobbly without them. I have these supporting Polk lsi 9 which are 30lbs. Cat and 4 year old safe without sand in the base. They are on luxury vinyl plank which is tough but scratchable. Hardwood should be no problem. Wish I bought 4 of these vs 2 other name brands.

Yes,I had them on a hardwood floor but decided to put two small square rugs under them since I live in a condo on second floor and wanted to stop possible vibrations. I also filled the stands with kitty liter so they would weigh more for stability. None of things I did were really a necessity since stands do a great job on their own.

Yes, but the spikes on the bottom will leave a mark. However, you don't have to install the spikes.. You could easily purchase stick on rubber feet to help isolate the stands from the floor.

I have hardwood floors and these speaker stands are causing a terrible rumbling sound that vibrates throughout my entire stereo system when I play records on the turntable. I would like to fill the stands and I see where some people suggest aquarium gravel. How do you put it in the stands? The screw holes on top seem too small. The bottom screw holes don't seem much larger? Am I missing something here?

Can someone who has the 32" stands (or if they're all the same on this) measure the size of the steel tube? Are they square or rectangular? I'm trying to compare how much sand fits in this vs. other stands. (For example, is it 1" x 1" square or 2.5 x 2 or what?)

I have these and the square tubes are exactly 2”x2”. I have KEF Q150’s on these and did not need the sand. I use them as my back surrounds and the stands are very sturdy on carpet. I did add a little putty tack to the bottom of the speakers but that it.
I hope that helps.

The outside of each tube is approximately 2x2 (my measurement may be off by 1/8"). A 50# bag of sand will perfectly fill 2 32" stands. If you don't spill any sand while filling, you should have a small amount left over. Big box stores typically sell sand in 50# bags.

In general the top plate of speaker stands should be smaller than the speaker itself. I have some Klipsch RP-600M sitting on these stands right now. The rubber pads that come with the stands do wonders. No matter how hard my cat rubs against the speakers, they never budge. Just make sure your speakers weight it centered on the stands.

BEST ANSWER: I own a pair of Monoprice 32 in. speaker stands and they meet my needs very well. They support speakers (Hsu CCB-8) ) that are larger than the Def Tech (the Hsu's weigh 22 lbs each), so they will have no problem supporting your Def Techs (which according to the DT website weigh around 12 lbs. each).
I'll add that although you can fill the speaker stands with sand to resist resonances, I have found that the stands work perfectly well without fill. I recommend them without hesitation.

Great stands, especially when on sale!
Nice stands. Assembly was easy, I used my impact driver. The first one I did the base to the legs first, then i looked at the directions and did the second one the way they suggested. My way was a little better I thought. I may fill them with sand someday, but they are quite solid right now. I'm also going to put something grippy on the platform when I decide what to use.

Ideal Stands
Why pay $3-400 for Target stands when these are just as good. Sand or shot filliable, with a nice flat finish.

Nice stand, Good Value
The metal tubes ring when struck. I used play box sand (from Amazon) to fill mine. The sand came wet, so I had to dry it in an oven on baking sheets. The 32? stand ended up needing 25 pounds worth of the sand. That makes the stand very heavy. I used coarse crushed walnut shell (got mine from Harbor Freight) on a different stand. Much lighter, and still damped the resonances. Something I didn?t like was sand leaks out of the gap between the tubes and the base. Some type of plug on the bottom, or included bag for the sand, would be nice. Note this was not a problem with coarse walnut shell.

WOW!!!
Greatest and best speaker stands. PERIOD. Throw away everything else you own and buy these. They even work great as a high chair if you don?t have speakers, and if you yourself identify as a speaker, they?re a great thing to sit on while you meditate. Cheers
