Are these actually full metal construction? In other words, are both the top plate and the base plate made of metal ?

BEST ANSWER: Yes both top and base plate are metal, as are the 4 vertical supports. I added sand to the 4 vertical supports, they work well and are well made. It took about 30-35 pounds of sand to fill all four.

Yes. All parts are metal. The issue I’m having is the top plate is not perfectly flat. One speaker only touches 3 corners and the other doesn’t make contact in the middle.

How important is the ability to put sand or kitty litter in speaker stands? I'm looking at one that doesn't have that feature and this one that does.
A shopper
on Jan 4, 2020
BEST ANSWER: If you want to add mass to your stands, I would suggest you consider Aquarium gravel for several reasons. First, it's very clean material - you'll get nuggets and nothing else. Second, because it's larger, it won't get into tiny crevices that are difficult to clean. Third, it comes in various colors if that's something that matters to you. Finally, it is priced very modestly compared to sand, buckshot or other options. I got a 25# at Walmart for about $15:

It's very important. Sand will inhibit any resonance transferred from the speaker cabinet to the stands. This is for the best, uncolored sound. However, if you're not putting very expensive speakers on the stands, and you're not super critical, go for the ones without sand.

To some it makes a difference, I never tried it. As far as these stands go I did not see the need, they are quite solid and I just did not see how a lighter substance put inside could make a difference. They are great stands, I went with floorstander speakers eventually. But like a lot of things in this hobby the individual has to decide, like bi-wiring. Some swear by it, some think its snakeoil.

The height is dependent on the height of the speaker stands. you dont want to make them top heavy but the more sand you put in the better they dampen any vibrations. Filling the stands with sand, or lead on the bottom and sand filling in the gaps then sand higher is similar to making the cabinets less resonantEnter an answer to this question.

It depends upon how heavy you want the stands to be. Ideally, heavier than the speakers sitting on top of the stands. I bought the 32" version which weighs 24 lbs. each without additional weighting material for my Monitor Audio Silver 100 which weigh 20 lbs each.
I feel that they provide a nice solid mount.

These stands were empty when I first set them up. Then I picked up a bag of sand from a hardware store and filled them. There was a substantial improvement in the bass response, almost like I had added a subwoofer! I am using large bookshelf speakers that are rated down to 50 hz (-3 db).

What speaker stands for Klipsch RP160M book shelve speakers they weigh 20lbs. each?

BEST ANSWER: These stands at any height will support your speakers, since they are sturdy and very good quality. I would add sand to them as many other reviewers have suggested (I took the bag that each leg came in and used it as a liner inside each leg for sand). Regarding which height to purchase, normally the high frequency driver should be at ear level at your listening position. I bought the 28" set since I have 3-way speakers that are 22" tall, placing the mid and high frequency drivers at ear level. You will likely need the tallest set for your speakers since they are shorter.

The monoliths can support your 20lb speakers with ease. I bought a pair of the 28” stands for my Dynaudios. The stands are very sturdy and - IMO - very attractive in an industrial sort of way. Check the external dimensions of the Monolith top plate and see if they match your speakers’ dimensions. BTW, you can rotate the stands so that the top plate’s longer axis is either horizontal or front to back. Your choice. No facility to hide your wires, but you can fix the wires to the backs of the supports, if that’s important to you.

This speaker stand will work for your speakers, the description states they will support 75 lbs. I made a MDF top for mine to enlarge the area where the speaker sits but that is up to you. These are very robust stands as the 75n lbs rating indicates. Ideally your speakers tweeters should be near ear level while listening so that will determine what height stands to purchase.

how many inches between the up-right columns?
A shopper
on Dec 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: First note that the spacing is different for the front/back pair and the left/right pair. You can kind of see that in the pics. So the 'footprint' of the columns is not a square, but a rectangle. By my measurements (which could be off by 1/32 of an inch or so), there is 3/4 inch between the front pair (and back pair) of columns and 1-5/8 inches between left pair (and right pair) of columns . If you need more accuracy, maybe someone else can help. Sitting on the floor with a standard measuring tape is not the easiest for me.

Why do the spikes come with nuts?

Hi Doug:
I not know the diameter and thread count. You can get help from the hardware store, they can match up the size.
What I did was buy a kitchen plate mat, trim it down to size, secure the mat to the bottom of stand all four corner by using two way tape, Alien Tape works great.

The spikes diameter is about 1/3 of an inch but you can purchase spike pads to go under the spikes. They are made specifically for this application. You can also just remove the spikes and the stand will look just the same. This is what I did.

Are they still attractive & functional if turned sideways?

BEST ANSWER: I consider them almost as attractive from a sideways perspective. Of course, if you place your speaker at 90 degrees off, the rectangular top plate won't match up with the shape of the speaker.

I’m looking for speaker stands for my Chane A2.4 speakers and I really like the Monolith. My only concern being a LCR speaker it’s about 20” tall. In my MLP, ear height is about 38-40” would there be a big difference in sound quality? I’m new to all this so wasn’t sure if I needed to find an 18-23” stand thank you.

BEST ANSWER: Depending on the distance from your listening position to the speakers, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. If you're planning on anything remotely close to nearfield listening I'd recommend that your tweeters be at equal height to your ears. My experience has been that the real problems arise when tweeters are significantly below ear level.

These will probably work fine if you're talking about mounting the speaker vertically. If you are mounting them horizontally then it might look awkward and possibly be too low.

I personally used sand to fill mine, but the dimensions of each of the four hollow portions of the stand are 2" x 2" x 28", I hope that helps.

Would these work with Seaton Cat8Cs which are 70lbs? Base is 11x11
Stephen D

BEST ANSWER: These are rathed to 100 lbs, which feel right based on the build quality we experienced. We have a solid ~78 lb. powered speaker mounted on top of one of these and it is plenty stable. We could not use the supplied spikes on our laminate floors, so we ended up trimming some adhessive-backed felt and applying that to the four corners to further stablilize the stand, that worked pretty well. We also filled the stand with ~20 lbs. of sand for further dampen resonance vibrations and add mass for stability.
You just put the base on to almost tight, or tight enough to not allow sand to pur out while filling. Stuff a funnel in the top and carefully pour sand down each vertical piece. Be sure to tap on the columns as they are almost full to compress and settle the sand. Fill them all the way up, then tighten the top plate on, flip the unit on its side and fully tighten the base = done.

Does Monoprice or anyone else for that matter make a larger top plate for this speaker stand? It makes no sense to sell a speaker stand that can handle up to a 100lb speaker but expect someone to place 100lbs on such a small top plate.

Best bang for your buck!
After reading countless reviews, I decided to purchase these stands for my new Polk R200's. Item came well packaged.
1) Extremely easy to assemble (reiterating a tip share by another reviewer - do not tighten all screws till you get all the legs nice and straight.
2) Filled all the 8 tubes with a 20-lb 5$ bag of cat litter.
3) For the feet, I purchased some M8x25 feet from the BigRiver and since we have hardwood floors, put some felt pads on those. Both stands are solidly stable!
4) For the speakers, used some Bostick DAP putty under the speakers where they sit on the stand top plate (stock plate is more than sufficient to hold my R200's nicely).
Overall, the sound improvement with the cat litter fill, bostick was so good even my wife (not a audio enthusiast at all) was like "This sounds good!" and she watched "Elvis" again as it sounded so good!
Buy these as you cant go wrong!.

Excellent
The parts are high quality and it was dead simple to put together. They look fantastic. The only con I can think of is that there was a tiny ding in the finish that I noticed while building them. It is not noticeable unless you're staring straight at it so I don't see it as a major issue. I just flipped that side to face the wall.

Best value for money stands you'll find.
Another Monoprice home run. These stands are stable solid reasonably priced and easy to assemble. I added some Hudson hifi idolaters to the top and some adhesive cable management that's out of sight down the center. Very pleased with these stands!

Excellent speaker stands
Excellent speaker stands I filled both tubes with aquarium gravel so there?s not any vibration. With the aquarium gravel it makes it a lot more sturdy and won?t move f it gets bumped. A 20 pound bag works well may get another one to top them off. That being said they are made very well and look great purchased some black zip ties to pull the speaker cables between the back space to secure them and keep them out of sight.

Stellar quality for the money.
We have a few of these supporting anything from 50 to 80 lb speakers. They arrived double boxed, which was nice. These allow you to fill each stand vertical piece with ~20lbs of sand, damping resonance and adding mass for stability.
You simply attach the base to an almost tight, or tight enough to now allow sand to spill out during the filling process. Turn the open top stands upright, then you stuff a funnel in the top and carefully pour the sand in. When it fills to the top, simply tap on the vertical pieces a few times to compress and settle the sand, then top everything off then tighten the top plate. The sand level will drop more than you think it will, so keep tapping until you see the sand level no longer drops. Turn the stand on its side, twist the vertical colums into place, and fully tighten the bottom plate.
We've found that using 3M clear paint protection film allows you to protect your speaker from any scratches and it acts like an anti-slip surface as well. As we have experienced with all Monolith items, these are a great value for the money.

sturdy, affordable, and looks good
I bought these for my KEF LS50W speakers, and they work great! They're very sturdy and look good. They're not the best looking stands out there, but they're half the price of KEF's. Some cable management would be nice with these too, especially a cable run inside one of the metal tubes.

It?s pretty good except for on thing.
Very solid. Easy to fill with sand. My issue is the top plate is not flat. One speaker only makes contact on the 3 corners and the other doesn?t make contact in the middle. This has made my use of decoupling materials less effective.
