How important is the ability to put sand or kitty litter in speaker stands? I'm looking at one that doesn't have that feature and this one that does.
A shopper
on Jan 4, 2020
BEST ANSWER: It's very important. Sand will inhibit any resonance transferred from the speaker cabinet to the stands. This is for the best, uncolored sound. However, if you're not putting very expensive speakers on the stands, and you're not super critical, go for the ones without sand.

If you want to add mass to your stands, I would suggest you consider Aquarium gravel for several reasons. First, it's very clean material - you'll get nuggets and nothing else. Second, because it's larger, it won't get into tiny crevices that are difficult to clean. Third, it comes in various colors if that's something that matters to you. Finally, it is priced very modestly compared to sand, buckshot or other options. I got a 25# at Walmart for about $15:

To some it makes a difference, I never tried it. As far as these stands go I did not see the need, they are quite solid and I just did not see how a lighter substance put inside could make a difference. They are great stands, I went with floorstander speakers eventually. But like a lot of things in this hobby the individual has to decide, like bi-wiring. Some swear by it, some think its snakeoil.

The height is dependent on the height of the speaker stands. you dont want to make them top heavy but the more sand you put in the better they dampen any vibrations. Filling the stands with sand, or lead on the bottom and sand filling in the gaps then sand higher is similar to making the cabinets less resonantEnter an answer to this question.

It depends upon how heavy you want the stands to be. Ideally, heavier than the speakers sitting on top of the stands. I bought the 32" version which weighs 24 lbs. each without additional weighting material for my Monitor Audio Silver 100 which weigh 20 lbs each.
I feel that they provide a nice solid mount.

I've been using them without sand or kitty litter for close to a year now, my speakers are heavy powered bookshelf type and they sound normal. I can't imagine them sounding any different with sand or kitty litter.

What speaker stands for Klipsch RP160M book shelve speakers they weigh 20lbs. each?
A shopper
on Dec 15, 2019
BEST ANSWER: These stands at any height will support your speakers, since they are sturdy and very good quality. I would add sand to them as many other reviewers have suggested (I took the bag that each leg came in and used it as a liner inside each leg for sand). Regarding which height to purchase, normally the high frequency driver should be at ear level at your listening position. I bought the 28" set since I have 3-way speakers that are 22" tall, placing the mid and high frequency drivers at ear level. You will likely need the tallest set for your speakers since they are shorter.

The monoliths can support your 20lb speakers with ease. I bought a pair of the 28” stands for my Dynaudios. The stands are very sturdy and - IMO - very attractive in an industrial sort of way. Check the external dimensions of the Monolith top plate and see if they match your speakers’ dimensions. BTW, you can rotate the stands so that the top plate’s longer axis is either horizontal or front to back. Your choice. No facility to hide your wires, but you can fix the wires to the backs of the supports, if that’s important to you.

This speaker stand will work for your speakers, the description states they will support 75 lbs. I made a MDF top for mine to enlarge the area where the speaker sits but that is up to you. These are very robust stands as the 75n lbs rating indicates. Ideally your speakers tweeters should be near ear level while listening so that will determine what height stands to purchase.

Is there a place to hide wires?
A shopper
on Mar 23, 2020
I have not found a place to hide wires. That feature is not advertised with this product nor is there anything in the instructions. Don’t let this be the only reason you won’t purchase these stands. Consider other ways to hide wires because these are nice stands.

No provisions for routing your speaker wires. I added black adhesive mount ty-wrap bases to back of one of the columns and then ran my wire up the column using ty-wraps. Mostly hidden but a cleaner solution would be nice.

how many inches between the up-right columns?
A shopper
on Dec 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: First note that the spacing is different for the front/back pair and the left/right pair. You can kind of see that in the pics. So the 'footprint' of the columns is not a square, but a rectangle. By my measurements (which could be off by 1/32 of an inch or so), there is 3/4 inch between the front pair (and back pair) of columns and 1-5/8 inches between left pair (and right pair) of columns . If you need more accuracy, maybe someone else can help. Sitting on the floor with a standard measuring tape is not the easiest for me.

On my 24" stands, there is ~ 3/4" between columns in one direction (narrow side of the top and bottom plates) and ~ 1 3/4" between columns along the longer side of the plates. I have no experience with the 28" stands.

Great stands at a great price - very sturdy and they look good
Well designed and manufactured, strong, sturdy, and they look good and they won't break the bank. I've seen other comments on these stands saying they are difficult to assemble, screw holes don't line up and such. The trick is assembling the stands loose at first - put every screw in its place and tighten only a few turns until all screws are in -then start tighten the screws a few at a time, setting the stand on the floor between tightening steps to ensure it continues to sit straight and everything lines up, then continue tightening in this manner until all screws are tight.
I also used adhesive-backed felt pads on the bottom as they sit on a hardwood floor. I also substituted the small the thin speaker isolation pads that were provided with these stands with 1/4" thick adhesive-backed neoprene pads for a bit better isolation. Even with my heavier larger bookshelf speakers, the assemblies - stands with speakers - are very sturdy; no sand or other additional weight needed.
