Thye cable is too short. Is there a recommended extension cable for MBP?

BEST ANSWER: I had an issue with the length as well. I put the laptop on a stand and put the doc under it. I couldn’t locate an extension cable on the Monoprice site, but was going to try something from Amazon. I was going to provide a link, but Monoprice blocks sharing a link to another company, even if it’s to help one of their customers find something they don’t sell. Try a search for Thunderbolt 3 extension cable

I have the same issue. There are many options for USB-C extensions. But Amazon only had one that’s also Thunderbolt capable. USB-C version supports 10Gps, while Thunderbolt is up to 40Gps.

Monoprice Thunderbolt 3 Dual DisplayPort Mini Dock Mac and Windows

Monoprice Thunderbolt 3 Mobile Travel Dock, Dual Video HDMI and DisplayPort, 4K@60Hz

On a 2017 MBP Pro running OS X 10.15.2 I am unable to use the USBA and ethernet connections. The DP ports work fine. Is there a firmware update or any steps I can take to get the two additional ports recognized by my MBP? I was looking forward to reducing dongles and this currently only gets me halfway there.

Great Dock (Extended Displays) w/ Caveats
If you're looking for a slightly less $ version of HP's USB-C Dock that supports extending your screen to multiple monitors (as opposed to just mirroring), look no further. I'm comfortably WFH (while Sheltering In Place) & writing this review on one of the 3 extended displays on my HP EliteBook (running Win 10 Enterprise, 64-Bit). As far as caveats are concerned? I'll break it down into 3 steps (which I wish was mentioned or within the product description/setup instructions).
#1 - It wasn't quite as plug-and-play as I expected. The monitors @ my house require a DVI Port, so I figured I could just reuse use my DisplayPort to DVI cables... Nope... Apparently, this dock requires the use of (something I didn't realize even existed), "Active" cables (vs Passive, which are pretty much standard for any DP/HDMI cable, etc...). I purchased the dock FIRST, then found after some research online that I needed additional cables/adapters to make this work (so was stuck on my tiny EliteBook screen until the additional cables arrived (which I also purchased from Monoprice).
#2, make sure (via Attached Thunderbolt Devices), that the dock (once detected) is configured for "Always Connect."
#3, you'll require 3rd party software (typically the case for any newer notebooks anyway) to enable extended screen capabilities. I assumed I could just right-click on the screen to view video properties, "detect monitors," etc..., but no-go... Windows DOES NOT detect multiple monitors (the dock mirrors across all screens). In my case, I had to open advanced properties of the adapter using Intel's UHD Graphics Control Panel. Once opening the panel, I was able to go to Multiple Displays, "Select Display Mode," & select Extend Displays. Only after Intel applied the settings, could I use the Native display tool within Windows to line up my monitors, rearrange order, detect, etc...
Some simple steps/prerequisites that I wish were bundled into the description/instructions, but wasn't the case. Had I known off the bat, this would be a 5 star product (& as I mentioned earlier, I still saved a decent chunk of $ not having to go w/ HP's branded version).

Sleek looks and a lot of listed features but I am not able to drive external monitors through the display port cables using this device on my Lenovo 81CA0017US IdeaPad Flex 5 notebook.
I get the message "display connection may be limited"
DisplayPort/MHL connection may not work. Try using a different cable. Make sure your PC, the external display and the cable all support Displayport or MHL alternate modes.
The message suggests trying another cable.
The display port to HDMI cables functions fine on another computer using this monitor configuration through that computer's display port video output.
I would be fine trying another cable if I knew what I needed. The computer has an 80GHz NVidea GeForce.

FAQ : Warning must use Active cables not passive cables
This device requires Active DisplayPort cables to work on my Macbook Pro. This should be documented in specs so people know this requirement. Lucky after an hour surfing the wb I came across this tidbit. I had Passive cables and didn’t even know there there were such a thing as an Active cable.

Worked with whatever MacBook Pro is out in March 2020
I just got a work MacBook Pro and now am working from home. With HDMI, I get 4k30... and it feels sluggish. With this, it looks like I get 4k60 with at least 1 monitor, though at this time, I don't doubt it'll with with a second.

Works with Macbook Pro
After upgrading to a newer macbook pro - I purchased this item to run my multi monitor setup. It works great and consistently detects my monitors appropriately.
The only way to make this better would be to include power pass through so I wouldn't have to use multiple cables. I am not deducting any stars for that because I knew what I was purchasing.

Usually works with my MBP
Bought this to reduce the number of things I need to plug in to my 2018 MacBook Pro. I tried plugging my USB-A hub into this, but kept losing connection to my USB devices, so now I plug that (via an adapter) directly into the laptop.
I don't use Ethernet, so have no idea whether that works.
As for the DisplayPort ports, they seem to work. One of my monitors regularly fails to get detected when I plug in the adapter, though—I have to turn the display off and back on for MacOS to pick it up. Not sure whether to blame MacOS or Monoprice for this.
Still, it's considerably cheaper than a full docking station, so I continue to put up with the minor annoyances....

Works with Linux too.
Small, sturdy and elegantly designed.
This dock connects my Lenovo Yoga 920 running Fedora LInux to two 4K@60Hz LG monitors and a gigabit Ethernet cable, all operating at the same time.
Two "Monoprice Select Series DisplayPort 1.2a Cable, 1.5ft" cables connect the dock to the monitors. (Keep 'em short.)
Finally, a solution that works!
