I have white noise coming out of speakers when aux in and taken out what can cause this?
A shopper
on Jun 15, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Any number of reasons can noise in the audio system. Try to plug the source into another power amp and speaker, be sure to have the amp plugged into the same power outlet as the SWA-400. If the noise is still there then there is most likely an electrical problem with your system. If the noise goes away then it is in the SWA-400 and should be returned.

You should do some basic troubleshooting to figure it out. I am assuming that you are talking about using the RCA inputs/outputs. There are several steps to check the source: (1) turn main amp / pre-amp source volume to minimum/zero. If the white noise stops, it is the main amp not the sub amp. (2) Turn the sub amp volume all the way down. (3) Also, try disconnecting the RCA cables one at a time and see if the white noise goes away.
My setup had no noise at all and I have been very happy with this amp. I used the speaker level inputs to alleviate the chance of having noise / ground loop issues, etc. from the RCA signal path. You can use an audio transformer based audio isolator, but it might saturate with any LFE signals below 20Hz.

I had the same problem. One of my 8” subs had a hiss coming from it. The 10” didn’t. I just have it powering my 10” now. I sent the first one back to monoprice. The second has the same problem. Seems like a design flaw. Also funny they send it out with a grounded power cord that will almost certainly cause a ground loop hum.

Many things..but probably ungrounded electric or unshielded audio cables. It can be maddening but dont waste money on RF filters, find the root of the problem

I bought this unit because it is one of two Class D subwoofer amps that Monoprice sells. It is curious though: the manual does not explicitly say that it is Class D, which is a positive selling point. It should be in the specs section but it isn't! And maybe the product title should say so also? Hmm.
You can download the manual and check the specs yourself at the Monoprice website. It has many features including lowpass slope roll-off (-6dB, -12dB, or -18dB).

BEST ANSWER: I do not know a way to wire them together and maintain a 4Ω load to the amp. If you wire parallel you will have a 2Ω load which may damage the amp. Wired in series will yield an 8Ω load to the amp which will only give you about 225W total power, 112.5W per speaker.

BEST ANSWER: Surprisingly, the owner’s manual for your sub does not list its impedance. The specs for the Revel 2 channel LE-1 subwoofer amp often sold with the sub also do not mention impedance, but do state that the amp delivers 700 watts to a single sub. No mention of bridging. Your sub could have an impedance anywhere from 4 to 16 ohms, although anything over 8 is unlikely. That said, the SW400 would work, but I’m pretty sure you would be disappointed in the output. I don’t think Monoprice currently offers a product comparable to the LE-1.

Subwoofer Amplifier
The features are well thought out with the crossover settings quite intuitive. I like that this amplifier can handle a four ohm load as I use two 8 ohm subs in parallel.
As a professional user I would like to see XLR inputs along with the unbalanced RCA connections. Otherwise, a decent compact unit.

Response from Monoprice
Hey there, thanks for the 5-star review of the Monoprice Subwoofer Amplifier! I'm glad to hear that it's meeting your needs as a professional user.
I completely understand your desire for XLR inputs. They're a more professional and reliable connection than RCA connectors. Maybe Monoprice will release an updated version of this amplifier with XLR inputs in the future.
In the meantime, I'm sure you'll be able to make do with the RCA connections. And if you ever need to convert XLR to RCA, we have a variety of adapter cables available on our website.

Noisy
This amp puts out a high frequency noise. It is however a good amp and does truly put out 400 watts RMS, tested with an oscilloscope and is very cheap for its' power. I had to return it though, I couldn't deal with the noise it added to the signal.

Exactly what I needed to power the Monoprice dual 8 inch sub
Finally was able to order this after being out of stock for a long time. I was concerned about the white noise humming issue that other reviewers have mentioned, but my setup has no issues at all. I'm running this to the Monoprice dual in wall 8 inch subs (wired to 8 ohms) w/auto on/off via receiver lfe. Makes for a clean setup which passes the WAF though the low end (no fault of the amp) is muted with an in wall sub.

We are glad that you are enjoying the powerful and clean sound of the subwoofer amplifier paired with the dual in-wall 8-inch subs. Great for M-IWSUB82
I decided to use this amp with the monolith M-IWSUB82 it is a great paring thus far. The amp is NOT 2 ohm stable and will instantly go into protection mode and a red LED will blink inside the unit. If you have this happen grab your meter and check the speaker resistance.
The unit must be wired to 4ohm loads or higher, it runs very cool and the rack mount ears are solid mounting.
The settings are a bit strange but allow multiple configurations which is a nice touch. Once you get used to scrolling the menu life becomes easier.
I do not have the HUM as other reviews have stated.
The volume control is in 3db steps yes but if your receiver has level settings it's very easy to make smaller adjustments as needed. My experience once adjusted properly you will only be adjusting your volume from the source not on each amp.
Great product as usual from Monoprice.

Just what the sound doctor ordered!
Exactly what I needed to power my dual homemade subs with 12" Dayton Audio drivers. The shallow footprint fits my cabinet perfectly and the flexible crossover settings allow me to integrate them seamlessly with my Mackie HR824Mk2 monitors. Since the Mackies have bass extension down to 37 Hz, I really only need the subs to reinforce the bottom octave (20-40 Hz). The 20 Hz high-pass filter and 60 Hz low-pass filter set at 48 db/octave work great for this purpose. The lack of a continuous volume knob that one reviewer griped about doesn't bother me, as 3 dB is the smallest increment that most humans can detect. I appreciate not having to fuss with finer settings. Fewer choices lead to more positive decisions! I also have not had any ground loop problems or transformer hum problems, which was a problem with a Dayton sub amp that I returned. The bottom line is that this is a great little unit and I recommend it!

Garbaage
Product emits 65 dB of noise. I used a ground lifter plug and product still emits the same level of noise. I returned the product and was sent another that is exactly the same. This is not suitable for home use.
