Can I wire two of the Caliber 8in 6816 in parallel to each terminal set for a total of 4 of speakers?

Monoprice Unity 450 Watt Bridgeable Power Amp

Monoprice Caliber 8in Fiber In-Wall Speakers 3-Way (pair)
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the Caliber speakers are 8Ω so you can wire two in parallel for a 4Ω load on each side of the amp. The Unity 450 is rated for 4Ω per channel. That will be a really good sounding set-up. Enjoy.

Yes. But keep in mind that all your doing is adding another set of speakers. If all four are going to be in the same room, the following occurs:
(1) You're not going to get any additional audio "oomph" - The parallel you speak of will just "spread the sound out";
(2) Place all [4] speakers in a "four corner design" - One in each corner area - This will spread the sound out a little, giving you a slight additional audio experience;
(3) If you indeed are going to use the 6816's, and they are equipped with an "Ohm" switch, set said switch to "0" - This will even out the Left and Right side "stereo" sound quality
Don't also forget that by the adding additional speakers to the same channel line will consume some power, so you'll need to increase the volume little.
Hope that helped some!

John, that's was a good thorough answer with what I think with some good detail. You must be into systems to give one that good. I have a high watt receiver and was going to add these speakers along with 2 that I already own (same) to put in the walls about two feet in from each corner at get a affect for surround sound I'm looking for that would give me 7.2.6 instead of just 7.2.4. Hey keep giving up advice, or I think what you gave was pretty good myself.
If your source of amplification can handle 4 ohm speakers then you should be fine, especially if you mostly play at modest volume levels.
You may want to check the resistance across the terminals of one speaker to make sure you get at least 5 or 6 ohms or higher. For some (marketing?) reason I’ve noticed that many manufacturers seem to rate at 6 to 8 ohms their speakers, which are in fact comprised of entirely 4 ohm drivers.

i have the 100w unit and it has a switch to select 4 ohm or 8 ohm load. So I guess you could wire two 16 ohm speakers in parallel and use the 8 ohm setting or wire two 8 ohm speakers in parallel and use the 4 ohm tap. With the 100 w unit I have this would be ~25 watts per speaker, which would be insufficient.

Can this amp be used with the 6 zone home audio multizone unit?
A shopper
on May 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Not sure what your requirements are. The six zone home audio unit has built in amplifiers for each zone. There is no need for a separate amplifier like this one. Possibly you are confusing the home audio system with a impedance matched speaker selector which does need a separate amplifier. This amp would fulfill that function but normally you would use a stereo receiver which would allow you to connect multiple sources.

It was easy if you are willing to use additional amps like I did. I use an additional unity 200 watt amp for every two speakers in each zone. I have twelve zones using two of the 6 zone units and fourteen additional Unity 200 watt amps. You just plug the line out from the zone you’re wiring into the first amp and connect that amp to two of the speakers. Then, each amp has a line out to connect to the next amp. You plug into the next amp and connect it to two more speakers. You can keep adding all the speakers that you’d like by doing this. My living room has 6 in ceiling speakers and 3 in wall speakers with two klipsch subs and my theater room has 6 in ceiling speakers, 3 in wall front speakers and two SVS PB16 Ultra Powered subs that each have 5,140 watts of class D power. That’s over 10,000 watts of sub woofer power in my theater along with all of the other surround sound speakers and it’s all connected to one zone and works just fine. You shouldn’t have any trouble at all. It’s not a difficult process and is really very self explanatory once you get going. Honestly, I had trouble with some of the other “experts” at other home audio companies whenever I started asking questions about achieving my goals using these multi zone units. They didn’t have a clue what they were talking about. Monoprice was the only one that I felt comfortable buying from. I honestly don’t think I called and spoke to anyone here by the time I was ready to purchase. I had already spoken to too many other “hourly employees” at other places that just didn’t know what they were talking about at all. I spoke to the pros at SVS and they knew exactly what they were talking about and they even tried to convince me NOT to spend so much money with them because they thought it was overkill but I wanted a badass system that made a nightclub look mellow. I definitely achieved my goals with a 15,000 watt whole home audio system.
Yes but needless to say it will only provide audio for two channels.

using this to power my monoprice outdoor sub and 2 sats also 2 large outdoor speakers. only 2 speaker inputs so I have combined them. all hooked up to my Sonos Connect. I noticed that when my volume is at 3/4 on the amp and I crank my sonos app on my phone it cuts out. I thought this would have more power??? don't get me wrong it cranks but sometimes I'm looking for just a bit more. is there other equalizer settings I should use on my sonos app or phone? should I get another amp to separate the sub/sats with the 2 outdoor speakers? looking for answers., thanks

BEST ANSWER: If you are using a boosted bass setting on the app then yo may want to get another amp and a sub.
Be sure there is plenty of ventilation around the amp. If you are running the front and back end wide open the amp is going to get hot and possibly go thermal and shut down before permanent damage is done.
Flatten the EQ on the app and clear space around the amp. If the problem persists you may have a defective amp, get an RMA and send it back. If you need for volume then get an other amp and a sub.

It depends how you wired the speakers. You may be driving the impedance the amp sees down too low, and the amp is overloading and protecting itself. I expect the audio cuts out when there is a bass note in the music, which is when the demand on the amp will peak. There's lots of information on the Internet on how to wire multiple speakers to one amp. In a perfect world, you'd use one amp per set of speakers, but you can run multiple speakers off of a single amp, if you wired it right so the amp sees a load it's capable of driving correctly. Keep in mind that if you run the amp at 4ohms, instead of 8ohms, it will work harder and run hotter, shortening it's life.

What you have done is horribly wrong - surprised you haven't fried the amp, guess we now know it has a great protection system. The problem isn't power, you are applying something approaching a 2 ohm load to the amp. The amp is not intended to work below a 4 ohm load -or at least the one I have isn't.
Disconnect either the 2-way system or the sub/satellite system from this amp. Then buy another. I believe these amps allow you to chain them together so two or more of these amps can work from a single input. Reviewing the manual that came with the amp shows how this is done - if possible.

450W is a lot of power for both speaker sets. The sub is rated for 200W @ 8 Ohm and 400W @ 4 Ohm. The 2-way speaker are rated at 80W.

Hello, I would like to connect 8 speakers together with 2 subwoofers like the manual states. I was thinking of purchasing the Monoprice Unity 450 W Amplifier to push all 8 speakers and two subwoofers. Is this the best option or should i purchase two separate 200watt unity amplifiers for each unit? I would also like to run two additional speakers off my Yamaha amp so a total 10 speakers and two subwoofers. What do you recommend?

It’s not clear what your trying to do. Are you using the amp to add additional powered channels to an A/V receiver to set up an Atmos surround system or are these discrete speakers.
As far as driving subwoofers you need a purpose designed amp for low frequencies not a full range amp. Normally these are powered subwoofers or a special amp supplied with a LFE signal from the A/V receiver.

This is a question for someone familiar with the Sycamore system. The 450W amp is rated for 4-8 ohms so you have to be concerned with overdriving or under driving the amp with regard to the resistive load when you use more than 2 speakers. The amp only has connections for 2 speakers.

I have 8 Polk Audio rc80i in ceiling speakers. If I run these to an impendence matching speaker selector (Niles SSCC-4), would this amplifier be able to properly drive these speakers?
Andrew H
on Jan 20, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The Polk rc80i are 8ohm speakers, which works. Their power rating is 20-100W recommended. With that in mind, you'll never be able to drive 8 of these at maximum output with a 450W amplifier - especially since any amplifier at full output starts to introduce distortion. The sweet spot for almost any amp driving hard is about 50% power, before the distortion curve starts making things sound muddy. If you plan to drive all 8 speakers hard, you'll want 4 of these amps. Most people don't drive their speakers at 100%, though. If you're only driving them at about 50%, you could get away with 2 of these amps and be in great shape (the amps chain together with an RCA cable, so they can both output the same signal easily). If you're running these speakers at low volumes for just background music or typical TV, one amp could do the job - but expect them amp's power protection to kick in if you push too hard. The Polk's are nice speakers - they deserve to get the power they need to deliver the sound level you want. You just have to figure out what that is. :)

One other thing I forgot to mention is how the speakers are wired makes a big different, as well. The Unity amps are capable of 4Ohm output, so if your speakers are wired to present a 4Ohm load, your power doubles at the amp (at the expense of heat generated by the amp), so a 450W amp at 8Ohm acts like a 900W amp at 4Ohm. I have no way of knowing how you have you speakers wired (I assumed 8Ohm, which could easily be wrong with 8 speakers). If you are wired for 4Ohm at the speakers, you could get away with half as many amplifiers mentioned in my previous answer. You can easily Google how to wire speakers to present different loads to the amplifier easily.

Thanks for the info! I'm wiring these to a speaker selector so that I can control volume independently per speaker pair. Unfortunately the speaker selector does not handle more than 100W input so I cannot get away with this amp s the speaker selector could not handle the input.. I'm going to try two of the 100W per channel amps chained together each into a 2 zone speaker selector. I'm hoping that the 100W amp can drive 2 speakers per channel. I've got a somewhat similar setup elsewhere in my house with a 100W amplifier to a speaker selector feeding 1 pair of in ceiling Klipsch speakers, and 1 pair of Polk outdoor speakers with good results.

BEST ANSWER: No, if I am understanding your question correctly. You have 4Ω speakers that you want to use with the sub? The High-Pass output from the sub will only support an 8Ω load. Our satellite speakers are 16Ω so we can run 2 off of each channel for a total of 8Ω. For my money I would get 2 Unity 450 amps. Run one to the sub, the sub has its own passive 150Hz crossover. The other amp can run full range to your 4Ω speakers. I assume your speakers are a bit beefy if they are 4Ω. Before you bury the sub I would play with the positioning a bit first and be sure you're not getting any phase problems.

There are some designed for cars that can be powered by a 12v power supply, just make sure you wire power to the 12v and the remote terminals to get it to turn on.

I feel like you might need a lot of these to build a bridge out of them. There's way better materials available than amplifiers to build bridges.

I'm very new to separate preamps/power amps. I have a vintage McIntosh preamp and am looking for a power amp to power two Bose 201s in a smallish room. Using the stereo for phono only. Will this do the trick? I am truly at a loss as to how to proceed after finding this new preamp.

I ordered 2 2.1 systems and 4 extra satellites. How should I wire them if I were to purchase two 450w amps? And what size wire is recommended? Also how would I add an external volume knob? And which knob would I need to control the overall system? It’s going around a pool with one sub and 4 satellites per side. Thanks.

Both amps can run stereo to the subs. You can splice the extra speakers off the sub or from the first set of sats. I would run minimum 14AWG cable. If the total run is more than 100' I would run 12AWG. The overall volume will require 2 volume controls, one for each amp.

Can I use this with the Monoprice 6-zone home audio to power 4 100w speakers from one of the 6 zone channels on that amp? I have 4 8Ω 100w speakers in my basement ceiling, and want mono sound out of all of them since they're not close together. I believe I can wire all 4 in series/parallel to this 450w amp, then connect this amp to one single zone on the 6-zone amp. Is that possible?

Or would I need 2 200 watt power amps running separately?

BEST ANSWER: The Unity 450 can handle a 4Ohm load, but you'd have to wire those Caliber 10" passive subs in series to do it - but if you did, yes, that would work. The 12" in your list has it's own amp built in, so no need for an additional amp for that one. If you're driving all 3 (2 x Caliber passive subs + 1 x 12" powered sub), you'd just use a RCA Y adapter to split the signal coming out of the receiver - one to the powered sub, and one to the Unity 450 driving your Caliber passive subs.

If the Sonos Connect has the proper ports you would be able to connect them.
This has no wireless capabilities.
Whether or nto you would want it to be bridged would be dependent on how you wanted to set things up.

BEST ANSWER: I think you may be able to if you have an active subwoofer. There is a preamp out (RCA) connection that would drive an active subwoofer. If you have a passive subwoofer (e.g, no integrated amp and crossover) this won't work. The amp does not have a subwoofer crossover. Two sets of 8ohm speakers no issue for sure. I'm not a pro audio tech, but have been using audio equipment many years. Good luck.

So I have 2 of the 450w amps, going to wire a sycamore 2.1 plus 2 additional satellites to each amp. If using a 4 conductor wire to the sub, do the amps need to be in bridge mode or stereo? I know the sub has a crossover built in and the satellites get wired to it using a 2 conductor wire. Thanks for help.

BEST ANSWER: You would send 2 speaker channels (4 conductors) from the amplifier, which would be set to stereo, to the Sycamore 2.1 subwoofer. The crossover in the subwoofer divides the stereo sound, removing the sub-bass sound which it keeps and produces the bass, and then you would wire 2 speakers from the subwoofer outputs, which provides the stereo mid and upper range of sound.

Works well and sounds good. Only complaint is that in the standby mode it remains rather warm for being unused. Haven't tested the power usage during standby, but I don't believe it is very low. It doesn't get too hot during usage even though I am using it at the higher end of it's capability. So very please with it overall.

Exactly what I needed
Exactly what I needed to replace a failing 45 lb behemoth amp (overkill for my application). Connected to six-zone speaker switch and BluMe for Spotify and Pandora streaming. Price, sound quality, performance, and audio standby power all great. So far, very pleased with the product, the purchase, and Monoprice.

Great for old school whole house audio
I purchased this amp to power an existing 4 zone speaker system in a new home, connected to a 4 zone impedance matching selector switch. Im not ready for sonos, and only need a single playback source (an old airport express). One of the speaker zones is a set of outdoor Bose speakers, which were crackling when connected to my old temporary amp, a workhorse 120watt amp from an old PA system. This 450 watt unit is perfect for my application. It provides plenty of juice for the whole house at only about 2/3 of full volume, and the auto on function is just great. The only thing I did was put a small piece of electrical tape over the red LED since it shines 24/7. The old Bose sound like new again and the whole house is rocking!
