I can't answer your question. I use this switch for two HDMI cables from two different Blu ray players. The switch automatically can tell which is activated and sends the signal to the outgoing HDMI cable connected to my television. David

The unit has a button on the front to select your output. It also comes with a remote that does the same thing, no keyboard or mouse required.

Does the switch still extract audio when the output destination does not have audio capabilities (like a computer monitor with no speakers)?
New User U
on Mar 26, 2023
BEST ANSWER: Yes - unless you are using Windows (10). The switch does not modify or mask the EDID sent by the source, so Windows will not allow you to select the speaker-less monitor as a playback device. It is possible to override the monitor EDID via a custom driver though.

Auto-switching works with the higher number input taking precedent when it senses a signal. This feature isn't documented in the manual but in practice it works well. Example: I have a desktop computer running constantly in input #1 and a Blu-ray player in input #2. When I power on the Blu-ray player the switch automatically switches to the Blu-ray player. When I power off the Blu-ray player it automatically switches back to the desktop computer. The button allows you to manually override the auto switching. In addition if you hold the button in for 3-5 seconds it toggles from auto-switching to manual switching via the button. Hard to believe this feature isn't advertised or in the manual.

I see that my question was ambigious. I was not asking whether the audio signal could be passed over the hdmi-dvi adapter, but rather whether the audio extractor would still function if the output device were an hdmi to dvi connection (as opposed to a typical hdmi connection).

BEST ANSWER: Atmos won't pass properly because of that analog output feature.. Just 7.1 Atmos is proprietary anyway so you would be paying double for a switcher that actually could switch Atmos audio properly. That why your processor costs so much.

Drops signal from PC otherwise great
I am using this box in part to connect my PC to my television to play games. The box displays the PC's signal perfectly at start up but when I launch a game it cuts out, sometimes flickering back for a second but otherwise I cannot get it to display. Possibly an issue with switching to HDR images? Otherwise it is great and works well with my nvidia shield for watching movies.

I wish the output hdmi port was on the back, but other than that, it works flawlessly, even with HDR from a PS5

Excellent product
The setup was too easy; functionality is perfect and an image is crisp and clear on my 62" TV. I don't see any difference with or without a splitter. I have multiple Monoprice products that still all function.

Does what it says it will do
I just hooked up the Monoprice Blackbird PRO 4K 4x1 HDMI Switch with Audio Extractor, HDR and so far, it works as expected. No complaints. The positive reviews here appear well-deserved. Picture and audio quality are both good, the rubber feet effectively keep the unit in place, and the unit, along with its ac adapter, are reasonably small. I hope this turns out to be as reliable as the Monoprice DVI switcher it is replacing with my 1080p PC setup.

Fantastic
The switcher supports HDCP so my roku, 2 xbox's, a nintendo switch all now take one hdmi spot in my television. It auto switches sources, relays commands to the TV from the xbox, and is sleek and easy to store.

Working Well
These devices are traditionally finicky so I'm always careful and searched for this one based on Monoprice's normal reliability and reviews. So far this is operating as expected. Remote control is nice addition and have had no reason to believe it will not continue to operate perfectly.

Just what I was looking for
Perfect for my purpose: an old TV with few HDMI ports and an incompatibility with many digital sound formats. I've tried several disappointing similar products from generic-sounding brands before, but this one seems to be quality. It even has a satisfying amount of heft to it, so it's less likely to slide around when cables are adjusted.

Does not work as described.
Despite being described as being 4k capable, it does not pass 4k signal. I bought two new 4k rated HDMI cables, both of which transmit 4k HDR signal from my PS5 to my TV. Putting the switch between the cables only shows FHD signal passthrough.
