Can the spikes be removed?
A shopper
on Mar 27, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes! As a matter of fact, when we assembled our unit, we didn't want the spikes, either, so we left them off and purchased four 8" wooden spindle-type legs at the local home supply store. We painted them black to match the unit, and the holes for the unused spikes were perfect for screwing in the legs. This also elevated the unit off the floor by eight inches, which was perfect for our needs!

How are the spikes fastened? What size screw? I'm trying to figure out what casters to buy.
Fasten with screws; I believe they were 1/4" inch.

When you put the stand together you do not have to install them. They are screwed in on the bottom 4 posts if you choose to install them, they are for people who have carpet so the stand does not move. Takes about 10 minutes to put together and you don't have to be smarter than a 5th grader. This unit is very strong and very sturdy, I recommend this product very highly...

How about stacking one on the other?
A shopper
on Sep 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Could be done. The Amp Stand and this stacked no problem. If you bought two of these you could assemble however many of the 8 shelves you needed, though if you went with 8 it wouldn't be very sturdy and would need to be secured in some manner. I've proposed to Monoprice that they create an option allowing for the purchase of 4+ tiers (however many fit your needs) so that way you don't have spare hardware lying around if you only needed 6 tiers, for example. Also, along with this being able to buy the longer posts would be awesome. This stand wasn't able to accommodate my processor or amp so I had to cut some spacers from wooden dowels to increase the clearance for these pieces.

How did you stack the amp stand? Did it screw into the 4 tier stand. I am looking for similar setup to put the monolith 7 amp. Thanks.
I used the supplied hardware and screwed them together. What I had to do was take some of the connecting screws and use them to connect the longer legs to the shorter legs to make room for my amp on the bottom shelf, I have the POA-A1HDCI. This resulted in having an extra shelf with no hardware on top, so I bought some black lag bolts, cut some 1 1/2'' wood dowels I had lying around and painted them black for the legs for the top shelf. Its temporary, but it works. Also, because my amp is such a monster (~130 lbs) I bought a small iron flange, 4'' gas line nipple and end cap and screwed that into the bottom shelf to act as a 5th leg, just in case. I'd probably suggest the same for the Monolith 7 amp. Hope this makes sense......

I thought these were modular, so I bought this one and the shorter one, thinking I could just fit them together. But it does not seem to be designed that way. They would only be held together with gravity.

Yes, you could theoretically stack these. The only problem would be stability at a certain height. If you put heavy components on the top, it could tip if you stack the stand too high

BEST ANSWER: Its possible but couldn't promise that it wouldn't look a bit weird or wobble a bit. The pipes are hollow so they kind of need something solid to sit on. You might be able to solve that with a large washer in between since they don't have much of a surface that can sit on one another.

It would still stand, but look goofy.
There would be a gap in the posts the thickness of the shelf removed, it needs the piece to fill the cavity.

Are the leg tubes fillable with sand or other dense vibration free material?

Monolith by Monoprice 4 Tier Audio Stand, 0.60 Shelf Thickness, Black
Monolith by Monoprice Heavy Duty 4 Tier Audio Stand XL, 1" Shelf Thickness, Black
BEST ANSWER: It has been a while since I assembled my stand. I don't recall that the leg tubes are fillable. What I recall is that the bolts that connect the tubes screw into sealed sockets, so I don't think there is a way to fill the tubes. But even if there are openings you could use to fill the tubes, you'd need to be very careful during assembly to keep from having sand leak out. I'm happy with the stand, but I'm only using it to hold an receiver and a streaming device, so vibration isn't an issue.

BEST ANSWER: You could use as two racks, but they would differ in height. The top shelf opening is taller than the other two shelf openings, and the space underneath the lower shelf is less tall than all other openings. BEST ANSWER: Yes, a 2nd unit can be used to add a shelf or replace a shorter shelf with taller. (each kit has one shelf a couple inches taller than others). I tried 5 shelves, with 2 taller shelves and it was too tall for me, went back to 4 shorter height plus 1 taller shelf. Still stable with an extra shelf. The threaded rods (M8 1.25) which connect the metal support tubes have nicks on the threads to prevent them from being screwed in too far and this would also prevent the tubes from being connected directly without a shelf or spacer of sufficient thickness. Aside from this issue, if the tubes were connected directly they may not be very stable as the thin edges at the ends would be forced together. Hopes this helps.

Also the curved part of the shelves is intended to be in the back,

Not that I know of. I admit I didn't look for extra shelves. The poles between shelves are separate, not one long pole. Now, if you bought two of this item, I don't see why you couldn't stack more shelves...

Yes you could add or delete a shelf. But if you add a shelf you will need four extra threaded legs.

I have model #39167 which is 1" thick, and I would not hesitate to put a 70 lb TV on it, with my receiver weighing almost that much. If the .60 model is as sturdy, I would certainly try it and monitor it.

I just received and built the product. You install plastic bumpers onto the bottom legs. Those plastic bumpers are threaded for the metal spikes. If you don't use the metal spikes, the shelf just sits on the plastic bumper. The main downside is that my shelf is slightly uneven and I need the spikes to compensate for the leveling.

What is the thickness of the wood shelves?

BEST ANSWER: For the "XL" variant, the shelves are an inch thick, one of the shelves has a metal bar reinforcement (to increase the weight load it can hold from 75 pounds to 150 pounds). For the modest difference in cost, I can heartily recommend the "XL" variant.

It's in the description... 0.6" per shelf. They're not wood... It's like a high density particles board that's wrapped with a thick, durable vinyl coating. It looks and feels nice, but nowhere near as rigid as solid wood

I put the Monolith Stereo Rack/Stand together in less than 45 minutes, with NO Tools. The Rack is made Very well with powder-coated steel tubes, which are connected together with relatively large diameter threaded (at each end), solid steel pins. These in turn also connect to each shelf with a washer like plastic/polymer pad. These pads act as shock absorbers and reduce any noise or squeaks, if you will. The black shelves are well-made and I would assume that the stereo rack could hold approximately 175 pounds. It passes the "Bump Test" and does not sway back and forth. Great Product for the 4 large Stereo pieces I have on it.!!

Great AV Shelf
Ordered it off of Amazon and arrived undamaged and well packaged. Was super easy to assemble and is very sturdy and well built. Only remark i have is it is shown with the back showing as the notches go in the back for your cables. I also opted to install casters instead of the supplied floor spikes (Casters were also purchased through Amazon, Onerbuy 4 Pack Caster Wheels Heavy Duty Swivel Casters with Brakes, Dual Locking Wheels Replacement for Industrial Trailer, Home Furniture, Office Table Cabinet(1.5 Inch M8 Stem) .) They fit in the threaded holes where the spikes would normally go. I find it much better if ever you need to advance the shelf for wire placement.Write your review here. It must be at least 10 characters long. Consider whether you would recommend this product and what you like or dislike about it.
