Hello, I have a couple of these, and am very happy with them because of their range. No, they will not dim. I have not seen any convenience outlet type z-wave switches that dim. I do have several standard wall switches from GE that are z-wave dimmers.

Is it possible to turn off the LED indicator when the device is off, i.e., the lamp or anything connected to it is not drawing power ?

BEST ANSWER: Yes you can, but you need a z-wave hub capable of setting advanced settings. The default device handler for SmartThings doesn’t allow changing it. But there are custom device handlers that can change it.

Set Parameter #27 to a value of 1. From the user guide:
"Whenever the smart plug is included in a Z-Wave network, the LED indicator will indicate
the status Of the load.
O The RGB LED illuminates when the smart plug is turned on and is off when the
smart plug is tumed off (default).
1 The RGB LED illuminates when the smart plug is turned on, but turns off after 5
seconds if the Z-Button is not pressed and no Z-Wave command is received.

It reports power consumption, so you could set up a different z-wave light to do that, but the LED indicator on the plug itself isn't independently configurable. It's blue when on, and dimmer reddish-purple when off.

Mike S is right. Any Z-Wave device that is line powered must act as a repeater while line power is applied. It's a requirement. Having a number of line powered z-wave devices spread evenly about your property ensures good Z-wave communications for all.

How do I get this to work with Google assistant?
A shopper
on Dec 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have Alexa, not Google, but I assume that the process is the same. With Alexa, you need a hub to connect the Monoprice Z-Wave products to. I have my Monoprice Z-Wave gear (Including this plug) connected to my Samsung Smartthings hub (They were cheap but I believe the price has been increasing) then my Alexa connects to the hub and tells the hub to power on the switch. The downside is a slight delay when items have to go through a hub as opposed to a direct connection with Alexa/Google. The advantage of using a hub, at least with Alexa, is that you can set up Routines and Scenes, Google may be different. Good Luck!

You need to have a "hub" that works with both the Google Assistant and Z-Wave devices. I use this with a SmarThings hub and it works well. I use two of these plugs and have them paired as a "virtual switch" and can say "OK, Google, turn on Christmas" and my Christmas lights come on.

I just purchased this and can't get it to pair so any suggestions on which Smartthings device category and steps to pair would be really helpful. It works. I do like the added feedback of the colored LEDs around the plug. The biggest plug is system security. Using a hub limits you to one point of attack - the hub, not every item on your WiFi network.
