punch down tool required? The instructions (steps 4 and 5) aren't clear on that point. I am assuming a punch down tool is required.

BEST ANSWER: Punch down tool is not required. You do need to trim your wire to the proper length. There is a plastic piece that has the holes for the wires. You slide the wires into the plastic piece and cut the wires to length. The plastic piece slides onto the prongs of the Keystone jack. It worked perfectly for me. Very easy to assemble.

I ordered these to use with the Cat 8 wire i just installed. I have not terminated/used any of these keystones yet, but looking at them, I don't think a tool is required - it looks like the closing of the access door functions to crimp the wire into place. They appear to be tool-less as the name states.

I inserted the wires by hand easily and just used slip joint pliers to squeeze the block over the wires. terminated 16 of them with zero issues.

This is a 6A jack, not cat 7. Cat 7 is a goofy, non-RJ45 design. Ground your shield on both ends of the cable.

I've had many of these pop open after assembly while trying to plug into a keystone patch panel or wall plate. Has anyone else had this issue? What have you done to keep them closed? It's an interesting paradox that if they close accidentally prior to assembly, they are very difficult to open, yet fully assembled they tend to pop open easily on their own.

BEST ANSWER: Make sure to close the keystone well using pliers then use the zip tie included to keep keystone closed. If they close accidentally, use a precision knife to reopen carefully to prevent breaking the latch pins. Make sure to check out the installation instructions, it was very helpful. I have not experienced this problem and I have assembled quite a few of them over the past few months with the Monoprice CAT7 cable. If you are using a different CAT7 cable, you want to make sure the cable diameter does not exceed the opening on the jack. Also make sure you are using the tie wrap to prevent the cable from moving around and adding more stress the lock. As a last resort, you could take a pair of channel locks and bend the locking tabs in a little.

Can this keystone be used with shielded CAT 6 cable such as Product ID 18613?

BEST ANSWER: Having installed many of these, yes, you could use them with any grade of cable. I wouldn't recommand it though, as there are much cheaper options when creating a Cat6A network, that would be much faster to deploy, having lower requirements overall.

Having difficulty sourcing a suitable wall plate that will work with this product. The clip points are designed for a much thinner mounting point than what seems to be readily available. Is there a recommended wall plate?

BEST ANSWER: I had this exact problem and tried connecting to many different styles of wall plates. I never found one that worked, so I decided to make a modification to the clips on this keystone connector.
I used a Dremel tool to grind down the rear tabs on both the top (plastic) and bottom (metal). This modification worked perfectly and now it clips into all the plates I tried.

BEST ANSWER: I have used the Cat 7 ones at my house and they seem to work fine. You need to be careful of the color scheme on them. The green and orange are confusing.

Between steps five and six, I cannot open the keystone jack 'door'. Is there a trick to this? I am breaking the first one I am trying to do. The instructions are not helpful. A video link would help.

BEST ANSWER: I have found this trick to work to open these hinges when closed.. First, use some scrap cat 7 jacket (if it's stiff) and cut in half. The wedge the pieces as far into the hinges as possible. Then using some needle nose pliers and similar to a vice grip, gently pull the hinge open. Without the wedges is near impossible without damaging the piece

Will this work with shielded patch cable as in stranded wire? Need a solid connection for analog audio adapter pigtails.

BEST ANSWER: I'd recommend NOT using these with stranded wire. My judgement call is that the piercing blades would cut some of the finer strands when you went to compress it closed.

Purchased several of these RJ-45 with a Cat7 spool; 3 questions. 1) How to open the RJ-45 gate when closed? It seems near impossible without damaging the connector. 2) After punching down several dozen terminations, and testing speeds, a few wires are slow. Could this be because the punched down wire did not nick the copper properly and connection is weak? 3) For Cat7, where are all the GG45 connectors? All I can find were RJ-45.

The description says this connector is suitable for 22-24 AWG cable, but also says the bare conductor diameter is limited to 0.50-0.58 mm. While that range covers 23 and 24 AWG a 22 AWG wire is 0.65 mm in diameter. Does this mean this connector should not be used for 22 AWG cable (when the conductors are actually 22 AWG)?

The quick install guide mentions, in the last panel, "make sure the drain wire is in proper contact with the grounding clip." I'm using cat6a cable, and it has a grounding wire, but I don't see how to attach it to anything in the pictures. Is the "drain wire" the same thing as the "grounding wire"? Where on the jack is the "grounding clip"?

Whoa that was easy and successful
I just needed to take a few minutes and look closely to get the idea of how to put together the first one. After that, piece of cake. Cable passed all tests of Panduit Net Chaser with flying colors.

Great when they work, but defects can occur
Purchased 60 of these. 6 out of the 60 defective with the same type of issue. One of the wires on the internal receiving port will slide / move after first use.

Horrible to terminate and pass simple continuity test
terminate perfectly and still fails simple continuity test, usually on pin 1, sometimes pin 4 too. Maybe a bad batch (but several hundred?!) but the next batch was a different design and much better. Not happy we got stuck with the crappy ones!

Not happy
These are not like picture. Completely a different keystone. The baggie it came in did have the correct part number on it. Go figure. After waiting 3 weeks to arrive I decided to use the ones they sent me. I struggled real hard trying hook them up. Had some that I had to redo. It was Very time consuming. I will not reorder this product. Just would like what i ordered. Its like ordering a car and a truck arrived instead.

Works well with Cat6A F/UTP cabling
Purchases for use with Monoprice F/UTP (marked as FTP) Cat6A cabling #18594. These jacks are very study and relatively easy to use, those as other reviewers have noted, the instructions are not printed.
When used with the #18594 F/UTP Cat6A cabling, these jacks are a solid, tight fit and work well. They appear to have no issues operating in close proximity to each other. With iperf3 testing, I have measured real-world speeds of >9gbps with mid-range switching in the middle.

Solid construction, doesn't punch down well on Cat 7 Cable
This connector jack is excellent, but I have several Cat 7 cables that I bought this for to connect to. All the Cat 7 cables I tried to connect to would fail to cut into the plastic into the smaller ethernet cables. Disappointed and had to buy a different set of Cat 6 keystone jacks that use punch down instead.
