Can this be used as LR Middle Speaker and LR Rear Speakers?

BEST ANSWER: That’s how I’m using them in an Atmos setup. Atmos prefers non dipole setups so they’re perfect. I’ve turned these on as mains and they sound pretty good. With the reduced bass requirements as surrounds, they work perfect. Wait for a sale.

Hi, I’ve had them for about 3 month and the Centre channel just came back in stock. I love the way they look and sound. They aren’t super high end but for the price I love the value. I went with extra speakers for music so these are just surround sound. I painted 2 of the exterior grills black and they look great.

I have the 8” round ribbon tweeter as overhead in our theater. The sound exceeded my expectations, imaging is good and I’d buy the same model again if I had to. I also use the in wall ribbon tweeter as fronts behind the projection screen, also exceeded my expectations with good sound quality and staging.

I'm thinking of using 5 of these 6.5" speakers for Front, Center and Rear along with 4 of the 6.5"ceiling speakers and the 10" Alpha sub. 5.1.4 If that sounds doable would I be OK to mount them on their sides to keep the height of the TV closer to eye level?

Mounting any in-wall speaker sideways should work fine (unless the speaker says otherwise). Keep in mind though, when you do that you may be altering the acoustic properties of the speak as many are not tested in that orientation. If you need a finely tuned system or specific sweet spot in the room, that may be more difficult with them sideways. Additionally, if you're using the 6.5 speakers as rear channels, you may want to use more powerful ones in the front and center to balance the sounds better for theater style usage. In most theater the front and center changes are significantly more powerful than the side and rear channels as those are used more for environment and ambiance. Good luck, hope it sounds great.

Can these speakers be installed into drywall with 2x4 framing behind it and concrete foundation wall behind the framing? Looks like 6.5" 2-way needs 3.1" of depth and the Alpha Center (24431) needs 3.4" clearance. Will such tight clearance affect performance? Based on the manuals, the decision between the 6.5" 2-way, 8" 2-way, and the 6.5" 3-way has been made for me.

Can/Should these be mounted upside down to place the tweeter closer to ear level, and closer to the center reference tweeter?

BEST ANSWER: I mounted mine so that the center of the speaker was at ear level. Feel that if Monoprice engineers had wanted them mounted upside down then that would be stated in the mounting instructions. Speakers should sound great no matter how they’re mounted.

This depends on how high you are mounting. I have to mount high, at about 5 feet, and will be inverting mine.

BEST ANSWER: We do not recommend that. You will encounter phase problems caused by sound arriving to your ears at different times. It might be better if you align the speakers on top of each other with the tweeter as close as possible, one upside down.

Thanks for the respond. The serial connection I refer to is the wire connection. I indeed intend to install is on top of each other as you suggested. I like to Amber 3-way. How does the Caliber 3-way with concentric compare to that in this type of installation. (two each on all front channels). Thanks.

If you hook them up in serial pairs, you end up with 16 ohm impedance. If you connect them in parallels, them 4 ohm.s per pair As I recall these are individually 8 ohm speakers. if your receiver can handle 4 ohms, that is the way to go. The phase is a non issue, they will be close enough for it to not matter.

What enclosure volume is needed for the 24432 speaker? I will probably build an in wall enclosure to help with soundproofing.

BEST ANSWER: Qts tells us the 6.5" is well suited to sealed. Running through an online box calculator I get an internal volume of almost 2 cubic feet, or 56 liters. In a 2x4 wall with 16 inch stud spacing, that ia about a 5 foot tall space. I think I will leave the entire 8 ft cavity, but glue in a 1/2 inch of Masonite in the back of the cavity to stiffen it and stuff with fiberglass.

Quick math correction, 16" stud spacing is only 14.5" open, so closer to 6' cavity being ideal.

Work great as effects speakers in my 11.4 system.
I have 4 of them in my suspended ceiling. They are great as surrounds.

Good Sound & Nice Magnetic Grills
I was impressed with the big sound and the relative ease to install them. I installed 6 and only 1 speaker had a screw which was snapped (easily replaced with a spare one lying around). Although intimidating at first, putting them into interior & exterior walls with insulation/vapour barrier, the design was very good to fit snug, even without screwing them in. The snap on magnetic grills are almost flush (1/4? raised) and look very cool. Next step is to paint them.

Great speakers. I wish I would have gotten then 8", so they matched my front left and right, but I'm doing 11 speakers surround system and had to watch the budget.
The tweeters are the best I have ever heard! You just can't understand what I mean until you hear them

It sound good to me. Better than Polk Audio in my opinion. The sound can vary based the type of wall cavity & insulation around the speaker.

Solid build, look nice on the wall but sound disappointing
Install went smooth, despite flimsy clips (I broke two installing center speaker). Metal screws it comes with are easy to break just if you accidentally over-torque it even by hand. Grill is awesome, high quality and holds really well. Overall, I am please how they look.
Next is sounds. I am somewhat disappointed. I have a dedicated sub, so I do not need them to go low, however they sound so tiny, my wife compared them to a toilet sound. They are not broken in yet, but I doubt it will change much. For comparison, I have Warfendale 6.5" bookshelf speakers, and from the box you could see that driver moves effortlessly, where amber speaker is very stiff and thin. Is there some electronic behind them that does something weird? When I adjust sound, they crack, especially while playing something bass heavy. It feels like there is something between receiver and driver that does a poor job.
Finally, description says it is a ribbon tweeter, however it is flat plastic piece. I have Martin Logan ribbon twitter, and they look different, you can actually see it is folded unlike amber.
I am somewhat satisfied, since these speakers are for TV in a small room, however they have poor sound reproduction.
Look: 10/10
Sound: 4/10

Used for Surround Speakers
In fairness, I'm only using these for back channel speakers so they aren't being taxed all that much. But they sound good and installed easily so I'm happy. My only grip is that the printed instructions that I read prior to taking delivery described an entirely different wire connector that I ran around looking for, and then didn't need. Otherwise everything was great.

Great sound, clear and precise
I ordered these Amber speakers after reading some reviews on AVS Forum. While inexpensive, that is not always a sign of low-quality speakers. They came well packages, and their weight and good build quality was apparent when I took them out of the box. The instructions were pretty good, and the install went quickly (well, once I moved the hole up because of a hidden electrical box, but not the speaker's fault). After install and calibrating using my AVR, I found that I had to actually reduce the output to the speaker because they were coming in louder than the other speakers, even at the same volume level. I used these as surround speakers, but even for them I am getting nice sound and they look and sound very nice in my home theater.
