Is there a performance difference between thin or thick certified premium cables at lengths 8ft and under ?
A shopper
on Aug 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have used both with equal success. The thicker cable does not been easily and was impossible to use in my equipment rack. I was also afraid the thicker cable might put strain on my equipment 's HDMI connectors. The thin cable is perfect for interconnect Jon of my gear. Have not experienced any HDMI freezes or drop outs with 4k UHD HDR.

If they are certified then they are supposed to support the bandwidth specified, here 18 Gbps. But your results may very depending on external noise, how much you bend the cable and what your transfer rate is. I would recommend going with the ultra slim unless you find it doesn't work with your needs. I am using ultra slim 2' with 4K HDR and it works fine.

Length and thickness has no bearing on results, such as audio or visual clarity. In the digital domain, it either works or doesn't. Degradation doesn't exist.

No, at 8ft and under the length is short enough to not affect the signal. Thicker cables are needed for longer lengths.

Can we run these behind a wall?
Andy L
on Feb 6, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes, these cables are stamped CL2 which is rated for in wall use. In general, according to most local codes, this is a fire safety issue. Wires run in walls must be rated to run in walls or if run in say a dropped ceiling, cables should be plenum rated. Non rated cables can emit toxic gases at lower temperatures in event of fire. I'm sure there are plenty of people who don't adhere to this rule, but it's up to you regarding your personal safety or that of your family.

Thanks Edward. Where do you see that it’s stamped CL2? I don’t see it in the pictures for some reason.
Its printed in a faint white and is repeated all along the length of the cable (in part, it says ...(UL) TYPE CL2 SHIELDED 34AWG 75C ...) much like the printing on an ethernet cable. As to why it is not shown on the pics is probably due to esthetic reason. On on end oof my cable, the printing ends four inches from the connector, on the other end, the connector cuts off the printing. I dont use these in wall, but have not had a problem with 4K UHD signals with the 6ft length. I would try to refrain from sharp bends, though

It's a cable and as long as the integrity of the cable is not compromised the next two questions you should ask yourself is 1) Is the opening big enough to allow the ends to pass through it, and 3) is the cable long enough. to make the connections.

I probably would not recommend this particular cable then...as it could eventually kink and tear the rubber cable housing.

Is this rated for in wall, CL2?
Max B
on Feb 2, 2021
BEST ANSWER: According to what I know, not necessarily as it is not certified CL2; however, HDMI generally does not carry enough power to worry about. Also also make the cables slim, each cable thickness was reduced and cannot carry much current anyway.

Has Monoprice done any testing to ensure that this cable works with the Apple TV 4K? I am having an issue where the tv apple TV 4K cuts out at least once every time I've used it for about 5 seconds at a time. A quick google search has told me that this seems to be a known issue associated with the HDMI cable. How could this be possible if this cable is rated to handle all of the latest HDMI specs?

Excellent flexible cables.
These cables work perfectly. I needed thin flexible cables to fit in a rather tight cables management tunnel. These cable fit the bill and pass 4k video without any issues.
