Is it better to use 14 gauge or 12 gauge for speaker wiring?

BEST ANSWER: It depends on the application, generally speaking, the 12 gauge will allow you to run more voltage over longer distance like any electrical wire. However, 14 or 16 gauge is generally used for home speaker applications. 12 gauge would be overkill unless you are an audiophile and have a super high-end speaker system that warrants the thicker wire.

Depends on length of run and power whether 12 is needed (and type of system - e,g., 70 volt versus normal system), but other than price, there is no downside to always using 12. I make it a practice to use 12.

Unless you are running the wire a very long way, 14 gauge will work just fine. You won’t notice any difference.

What is the rated watts (or amperage) for the 14/4 wire?
Can it be used for 110 volt applications or just as speaker wire?

BEST ANSWER: Well copper wire is copper it can be used for more than speaker wire, yet because that is the intended purpose, the color of the wire may not match electrical standards. Also if using this for electrical wire please search the internet for a wire amperage chart, because the distance will determine you max amperage. Remember this is stranded wire not solid. Hope this helps you

Great value!!!

This cable has a quality look and feel, and it comes in a sturdy wooden spool. I really like that it has the string to cut through the outer jacket, making it much easier to peel it off.

4 lines wrapped in one cable was perfect

Used to install home theatre..used as speaker wire, one run of cable ran surround left and rear left. The other run handled surround right and rear right. Having 4 cables in one wrap was perfect for my needs.
