BEST ANSWER: The three rings on the plugs indicate that it can pass the mic/volume signal through, however it does not have a mic or a separate volume control.

No, it is a only cable with 4 wires inside and male 3.5mm TRRS plugs on each end. No mic or volume control.

This cable does not have a built in microphone but it will work with headphones and portable devices that have a built in microphone. Meaning that if you want to use this cable to plug your phone into your car audio system AUX input it will handle left, right stereo signals as well as microphone functions. (Two black rings on the plug mean that it handles left and right audio, the third black ring indicates that it handles microphone functions as well.)

Would using this item 18632 with a device that doesn't have a microphone still work just as well as item 18629? It would be nice to have the flexibility to use the mic. But most of the time will strictly be speakers.

Is this a Shielded cable? (a over shield that is also signal ground and three conductors inside it?) All the cheap TRRS cables that I've purchased from overseas (not from monoprice) that look similar to this have just four conductors with no shield.

Would this work to connect an already microphoned headset to an Xbox One controller? I know audio would be fine, just not sure if mic would work

If I used an aux cable with mic support in the cable like the product 18632 would I be able to use the built in mic from the headphones like a wired headset? Asking because I have tried connecting this to a PS4 via bluetooth, but I get an error saying it is not compatible, but the ps4 controller does allow for a headset with mic (3 ring headphone cable) to be plugged in.

Perfect for Split Keyboard
Perfect for my split keyboard. The connectors are well made and the cable isn't ostentatious. If you have a split keyboard that uses a TRRS cable to connect the halves, this is a good option.

3.5mm TRRS gaming headset cable
Great quality, especially for the price. Others that are more expensive have worse quality. Using these to replace Rig gaming headset cable that had volume knob that actually was the problem- their company has changed ownership and no more support for individual components. This TRRS cable does the job with clear voice/ sound - no static noise like before.

Great for the price, gets the job done and done consistently
This cable most certainly reliably works. However if you're grabbing it for a split keyboard *very specific use case* you'll definitely want to grab one that's more aesthetically pleasing. The cable doesn't feel nice but for this price it's fantastic and is what is says the site says it is. Would recommend for moderate but not heavy daily usage - but it's cheap enough to replace so -

Very Reasonable Price / Works Just Fine
Purchased this for an electronics project where I needed a TRRS cable, as I need the microphone channel, and Monoprice was one of the few places to carry it! They do fit a bit tight in some ports, and the smooth metal housing of the plug makes it difficult to remove, but it's a pretty minor complaint. Still well worth it.

Monoprice should remove this product.
The cable is incredibly thin and flimsy. Upon first insertion into my phone the end housing snapped off; that's how poor this product is.
This is the first time Monoprice let me down. Please consider removing this product. Consider yourself warned if you buy this product.
