Who is building this for Monoprice, shouldn't be hard to figure out, as there are what, like 3 or so manufacturers of planar headphones in the world? Fostex, Hifiman, Audeze, and I am already running out of names.

BEST ANSWER: These are essentially older audeze version.
It looks like these will come with a removable cable. What type of connectors will it use?
    New User U on Jan 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: UPDATE: The Monolith M1060 has been updated now to utilise a 2.5mm jack instead of the mmcx connection it was using before - this is suppose to fix multiple issues people were having with the mmcx connection.
Will the Monolith be compatible with aftermarket earpads (like those for the Audeze LCD-2, for example) ?
    A shopper on Feb 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes they are compatible with Audeze and ZMF Eikon pads. Go with a suede pad. Though the stock pads are comfortable you'll get better sound (imo) with a suede pad.
will this come with a 3.5mm to 6.35mm adapter?
    A shopper on Feb 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It does come with an adapter now (as of second batch)!
What are all the changes and improvements in the second batch?
    A shopper on Apr 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Without disassembling them you can't see what they did, but the head strap attachment was strengthened. The wood has been fully treated inside and out to stop cracking. The outer grille is finished better. The connectors have been changed to 2.5mm jacks for greater durability. The cord itself has been lengthened for more freedom of movement. Basically, every issue has been addressed and seemingly resolved without raising the price a penny.

Just wondering if the m1060 being sold now are the revised and new versions with the new cables?
    suit8888 on Apr 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Revision 1 sold out completely so, by default, every pair being sold is now Rev. 2. Cables are all new. And, since the connectors are now the 2.5mm type you can easily buy any cable you like. You can even go balanced, if you feel the need.
How long is the cable included with this headphone? Will there be options to purchase both a long and short cords?
    Stephen W on Feb 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: UPDATE: The newly revised Monolith M1060 has had the cable replaced by a 2.5mm to 3.5mm 6ft cable, much requested by the community.
I'd like to know how this headphone was reviewed when it hasn't even shipped yet?
    A shopper on Feb 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I ordered mine from MP Ebay on Friday and rec'd them 24 hours later. I'm in love with them.
Does anyone know when they will update the M1060 and fix the problems?
    A shopper on Apr 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It's done. Every pair available is now Revision 2.
Will these headphones require an external amp, or will they perform adequately connected directly to a computer? As opposed to the M560?

I just ordered these and had couple of questions:

I was wondering since these headphones use the mmcx connectors is there anything different about the wiring of the ends to make a custome cable for these headphones? I are they wired just in a standard way or something special ?
What is the length of the cable ? Are the ear pads snap on like the 560"s?

    Thanks
    Rick H on Feb 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The cable is 4' long. I believe the connectors are standard mmcx. Ear pads are glued on.
Can the headband be purchased separately?
    New User U on Jan 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hello, thank you for your question. Unfortunately we do not carry the headband by itself, If the item is failing on you, we would be happy to setup a replacement. Please contact us at tech@monoprice.com with your order # and one of our knowledgeable Technical Support staff would be more than happy to assist. Thank you!
This may seem like a ridiculous question, but just received mine, and I cannot find ANY indication of which jack is L or R. The cable (the newer dual 2.5mm cable) is labeled "L" and "R" but the headphones themselves show no sign of which side is Left or Right....no manual was included with mine. Who to tell which is L and R?

Does The HiFiMan Hybrid OFC Cable Work With This? If Not Can Anyone Recommend A 4ft Replacement Cable For The Rev 2
    New User U on May 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I don't have that particular cable, but it looks like it should work fine. It has all the right ends, anyway. The stock cable fell apart on me after 3 weeks, so it's definitely worth a try.
What is the sound signature like on these headphones? (Amount and quality of bass, mids and treble) Thanks in advance
    A shopper on Feb 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: These headphones make you understand why the iFi iDSD Black Edition has the XBass and 3D+ switches. Most headphones are not as neutral as these are. I also consider these to be very accurate. Flipping those switches on certain music types is an incredibly joy with these headphones. Sorry for the slight digression. No, iFi did not pay me for this answer and David C's answer is better than mine. =)

I know most recommend a headphone amp for these. How would an audioquest dragonfly perform? I have one lying around and was curious before I pulled the trigger on something new.
    A shopper on Apr 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I cannot say for the Dragonfly Black; but I have more than enough power to drive these with my Dragonfly V1.2. In fact, I feel my Dragonfly is a perfect match with these. It has more than enough headroom, clarity, and power to drive these. Using windows volume control set at ~50%, that Dragonfly outputs more than ample power for me.
I have three questions , 1.) the included 6 ft. cord is'nt gonna cut it for me , I need at least 10 ft. can anybody provide a link to buy decent cables ? I will mostly be using these with a vintage Marantz 2238 receiver which I've been told has a pretty good built in headphone amp although i'm sure it's not as good as some of the amps out there these days , any info in this reguard would be much appreciated . Also , it appears as though Audeze has put the kibosh on the vegan pads , so if anybody has any good suggestions for an alternative I'd love to hear em .

Does revision 2 of M1060 still have the ringing problem at 5kHz as mentioned by a few reviewers?
    New User U on Apr 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have been listenening to them for a few hundred hours now and I can only recall one time I noticed ringing and that was after an explosion in a game, it lasted longer than normal but it may have just been the game.
How can you tell left from right ear cup on v2?
    Clement C on Nov 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: They are not labeled as far as I've ever been able to tell. I have been presuming that the side where the foam is approximately 1/2" thicker is the back, as this results in the headphones' ear cups being roughly parallel to each other when placed on my head, as most people's heads are narrower behind their ears than they are in front of them. However, if your head is different, you could always switch the cables where they attach and wear them differently. :-) I think this is the primary reason why Monoprice did not label the cups, as the only thing that determines which audio channel comes through each side is how you connect the cable. When I first received mine, I had to listen to some music with good stereo separation on speakers (which I knew were set up correctly) take note of what happened in each channel, and then connect up the headphones and compare, and reverse the wires if needed to make the stereo separation match what I heard from my speakers. Hope this helps!
I called customer service and was informed the that revision 2 M1060 was not released as of May 2nd.. However there are a couple of reviews on the web. How can I get the revision 2 at this time?
    A shopper on May 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The current version for shipping and RMA replacement appear to be the current version. I've requested replacement a couple weeks ago and received the new 2.5mm version.
Will you be able to cover these like you do with the M560? I mean make them 'closed' back. I like that versatility from the 560s
    A shopper on Feb 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No. They're open only. Improvise a cover if you want, but you'll completely ruin the sound. If you need closed, buy the 560s..
Will you provide in the future and just throwing it out there, an upgrade kit for memory foam earpads?
    A shopper on Jan 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have no idea. I wear mine several; hours day, and it's almost one year now since I received these headphone. There is not a lot of pressure clamping them to your head. For me they are "barely there" and it will be a long time before the ear pads will need replacing.
What comes in the box with these headphones?
    A shopper on May 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: In the box are: the headphones (obviously), a nice luxurious travel case, and (I'm not sure about this) a gold plated converter from the small headphone jack (for a smartphone for instance) to the bigger headphone jack (for your Hi-Fi for instance).
Does Revision 2 of the M1060 still have the ringing sound at 5kHz?
    A shopper on Apr 26, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have heard a lot about the ringing problem, but I have not experienced this at all. These are incredible headphones and many of us who have purchased them would be quite upset if we heard "ringing". Look up "Z review" on this headphone. He doesn't hear it either. DMS TV did an initial review where he praised them to a superlative degree. Then later he apparently heard the ringing and started modding them till they broke. My question is; Where is your credibility? Where was this ringing when you gave the glowing review? I think that Audeze LCD2 purchasers and some reviewers just don't want to give the M1060's the credit they deserve. I have music that I have listened to for over 30 years. I know my music very well. I would notice any additional "ringing". It would be a definite deal breaker for me if I did. These are great headphones for great price! I highly recommend them.
Do the ear cups flip out like on the wired hd280pros? i mean like the capital omega, so the actual cups aren't pressing up against my neck: Ω
    MARTIN F on May 22, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, they rotate and pivot on both axes (so you can flip them completely around or like the shape of the capital omega. One note though, they move VERY freely, so they might twist around to the position of least resistance. (rotating the cups also moves a little too freely for my taste)
Can I somehow close the headphones so that sound does not leak? These are perfect except that sound will be heard by others around you
    A shopper on Dec 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I would recommend that you do not do this. It will seriously change the response curve of the 'phones. I find that the "transparency" of the planar drivers in this headphone is so good that I tend to listen at much lower volumes than my other 'phones (which are also open back). Try turning it down.... this might fly with your family. Not so much at work.

    Excellent
I was able to use these for a week and I have to say, they are very very good. To me, they sound somewhere between LCD3 and HE-1000. Not quite as natural as he-1000 but not quite as sweet/warm as LCD3. They just sound very good. I was listening to Roger Water's and that guitar hits very crisp, total pleasure. I won't go into the minor details of sound signatures, mostly because I will sound clueless, but it's also because everyone has their own likes and dislikes.

Now, let's discuss build a bit: The most intriguing is the connection. This headphone uses mmcx connection, which is what is used by shure/westone and other earphone makers. When I initially got the cans, I was thinking... why? but then I realized that I already have few silver cables, including trrs balanced, so I plugged it into my balanced DAP and heaven occurred. Obviously, i can do the same with any other connection, but then, i'd have to make / but the cable and that takes time - this was instant gratification.

Otherwise, the headphone it build nicely. Metal where possible and soft leather like material for cups and band. Would I have liked lamb leather for cups or some exotic wood for veneer? yes? would I have liked to pay $599 for that, NO.

One other thing these headphones have: the cups rotate, so they can lay flat if you need to store them in a smaller case that it comes with.

I also had a chance to listen to its smaller brother and while that one improved after a week, this one didnt seem to need a burnin.

Overall, I would say this is similar to LCD-2, at 1/3rd the cost and much better build.*Monoprice invites the most trusted reviewers to post opinions about new and pre-release items to help their fellow customers make informed purchase decisions.

    Yikes !!
I rec'd my 1060's yesterday. Plugged them into my Fiio X5 (1st gen) and even with no amp, they are wonderful. So I tried them with the best amp I have here with me, (my JDS Labs 02) and they are marvellous. I've owned the HD800's, and sold them. They left me unsatisfied. The only thing I can say is that Monoprice may very likely change the headphone market to some degree with these 1060's. At $299 I doubt you will find anything even remotely close. I'm guessing that you will have to spend at MINIMUM 2-3 times this to start to get to the level of these. I don't even know where to start. Buy them. You will love them.

    One of the best
Check the thread on head-fi.org for these headphones for more info and measurements. They are absolutely one of the best sounding Planar headphones you can get for $300. I enjoy them more than the HE-500. The bass is stronger than most other Planar headphones while retaining clear vocals.

Use them on a Balanced Amp with a Balanced MMCX audio cable for best results.

Fixes that Monoprice can implement to make them even better:

-Offer a better MMCX cable. I replaced it with my own cable and it keeps a much better connection. I happen to like MMCX on the M1060 as I can share the cable between my IEMs and this headphone.

-Don't glue the ear pads. Use hooks or something where we can easily swap out the ear pads if needed instead of using glue.

-Offer a Velour or Microsuede Ear Pad accessory. The Audeze "Vegan" Ear pads sound good on these. If Monoprice can offer similar replacement pads for ~$20, they would be bought by both M1060 and Audeze users. There is a demand for them.

    Impulsive buy but I'm happy
Ordered this yesterday, came in today. Savagely opened the box and started listening to it. First impression - Did this really only cost me $300? ... I had a very "Woah" (Neo from Matrix) moment. The person before me did a pretty explanation of the product in terms of sound optional hardware that could be used and stuff so I'll kinda skip that and add a few other things.

-Ears can get pretty warm with long listening sessions
-The inside of the ear cups are smaller than expected so my ear lobes do touch but it's comfortable
-I don't believe the earcups are removable. They looked glued on from initial inspection.
-Not too fond of the mmcx connectors personally because my collection of cables don't consist of any mmcx connectors and I never buy IEM's.
-The exterior grill is pretty sharp. Not complaining for $300 but I feel like I can go slicing stuff with my Schiit stacks and shred stuff with this m1060
-moving the head band up and down feels very plastic-y = cheap. Then I tell myself I spent $300 and I feel okay again.
-I kind of wish they included two cables of different length or better yet, an mmcx to female 3.5mm so I can just use my existing cables. the 4ft cable included can be short at times. I'm used to using 5-6ft cables.

Other than that, the build quality is pretty impressive.

I will now get into breaking-in these bad boys and see if I can find myself some balanced cables for these from someone and then I might come back and add to my review. But by then, I think there will be many others who want to throw in their 2 cents.

Definitely one of the best deals on a high end headphone
OK so Monoprice M1060. I gotta give it a while to break in still. So far the sound is great, definitely clear across all frequencies as is expected from this kind of headphone. However the low-end is crazy responsive and punchy. The soundstage is super wide. Definitely a different tone and space from the HD650s Again this is the part I'll have to wait to review after break-in. They obviously had to cut costs a lot to get this headphone down to $300 (Compared to Audeze LCD2 charging ~$1000) and it shows in a couple spots. Earcups are comfortable, soft, and thick, but they're glued to the cup. The cups also rotate fully so you can lay the headphone down flat. The connectors on the headphones are mmcx which is a pain in the ass for building/buying aftermarket cables. Mmcx disconnects easily in case you tug on it accidentally as well, usually used for IEMs. Speaking of cables, the 1060 comes with a very short 3-4ft cable thats 2 mmcx -> 3.5mm @ 90 degrees so really only meant to be used with a desktop amplifier close to you. If you want to use it with an amplifier you'll need an adapter for 3.5mm -> 1/4 inch which is NOT INCLUDED. The cable also transfers some definitely noticeable noise if you scratch or tap it. The headphones come in over 1.1 lbs so they're heavy but surprisingly the adjustable leather strap is comfortable and doesn't irritate at all. They aren't joking with the low-end response of this headphone, I ran a sin wave on this thing and even though I couldn't hear it at 10Hz really, it was rattling my tear ducts and making me cry.

I tested it using a Schiit Magni 2/Modi 2 stack.

    These ONLY cost $300????
This is what I kept thinking after only two hours of use. Before these M1060's arrived, my 'go to' headphone was the EL-8's (using the Deckard amp). Now, the EL-8's have been put away as i'm intrigued by the M1060 sound signature and where it may take me next. I played one track that was unfamiliar to me which had some dialogue. At one point, I turned around as I thought someone was trying to get my attention from behind. Its been a while since I've been this excited about a headphone... AND FOR ONLY $300.

Amazing Headphones- Best Cans Under $600
I usually get my reviews from YouTube, specifically Z Reviews. Zeos has a superb channel where he already recommended the M560s. He mentioned the 1060s were in stock here at Monoprice, and I rushed to grab a pair. Came today, listened for hours... and they are, pure and simple, some of the best sounding headphones I've ever heard. Full bass, open mids, and colorful highs... but never too harsh or brassy. Very natural sounding to my ears. For reference, I also have the Philips X2, and AKG 7XX. The X2s bass is still a bit deeper, but these are way more controlled. And the 7XX's mids and especially the highs are very pronounced compared to the 1060s. The only quibbles I have found so far are what others have mentioned- the connectors are not the best, the cord is too short, and they're a bit heavy after a few hours of listening. All totally manageable for the wonderfully warm and natural sound of these 1060s. Price is truly unbeatable, and these may make you listen to your old music all over again. Cannot recommend highly enough!

    QC Issues
    QC

The wood band in my left cup has cracked. I also have occasional dropouts in the right side.

    Other issues
The cable is way too short and the 90 deg angle is a pain for desktop use. The mmcx connection are not quite solid enough even after a week of use.

    Pro
The sound is great. I hope they get this bugs worked out of the beta product so it can go on to be a star in their lineup.

    Wonderful upgrade from HD598 and T50RP MK3
Anything I say will about these headphones has already been mentioned. The imaging, bright and natural highs are not fatiguing, bass extension is there, but not overly boomy. This is just an overall wonderful headphone that's making me skip out on my weekend just to listen to move music. With my Technics 1200, Emotiva phono preamp, Rega Ear amp, and Grado G1+ w/ 8MZ stylus I cannot imagine a more natural sounding phono setup. Pink Floyd The Wall's frightening background sound effects and samples really made me uneasy last night. I had to pull off these headphones since I thought the noise came from my kitchen! So, yes, despite the poor cable design choice and sharp metal grill I'm keeping these!
As for defects, mine are nearly perfect out of the box. Both MMCX connectors and cable functioned properly without poor connections. The wood also wasn't cracked or scratched, however, the lacquer finish could use an additional coat since it appeared sprayed on and uneven. Otherwise, for the price, I cannot complain. I'm certain with care this will last me at least 5 years of use without issue.

great headphones with a small problem.
I really like these headphones. They sound awesome, and sound stage is good. The ear pads are soft and comfortable. My only gripe thus far has been the headband, as it has come undone several times. I've remedied the problem for now, but hopefully Monoprice will make the headbands a little sturdier in future revisions. I'd say that for the price, these are a steal.
