BEST ANSWER: No, it is powered by two AAA batteries so that is a total of 3 volts. You could hack it to support USB with a resistor or voltage regulator. However, it has pretty descent battery life with the easily replaceable AAA batteries.

The product page mentions that the device type handler for this sensor is provided by RBOY APPS. Rboy apps is a subscription base service at $25 per year. By extension, does this device REQUIRE that subscription? Are there other DTH's that will work that do not require a subscription that is the same price as the device?

No, while the RBOY service appears to be high quality and worthwhile for those who don't want to mess around with DTH's, there are at least two other handlers that work just fine. I just moved over to the krlaframboise : Zooz 4-in-1 Sensor that's working fine and offers very granular configuration changes to the sensors. No subscriptions required.

John,
You can use the DH that comes with the device. The RBOY just gives you more options and other uses you would not have possible with the standard DH.
FYI RBOY has several other custom software and DH's that are really useful. I originally purchased a subscription for my thermostats. This one was a bonus!

I wish this was true but most of the z-wave devices I have purchased from monoprice do not work with my Wink (original version) controller. I just tried to add this 4 in 1 sensor using the generic "Zwave sensor" and it was not recognized. I blame wink, not Monoprice. I am able to configure under my Universal Devices ISY-994 hub.

I too, am trying to get this multi sensor to work with my Wink Hub 2. You should be very close to the Hub for pairing. Also, I am only getting temperature and humidity. While I will keep the device for these two features, I will not be buying more without motion and light detection working.

This only partly works with the Wink hub2. It can only detect the temperature and humidity. It can not detect motion or light. Install as a generic door device to get this bare bones functionality.

is this compatible with Alexa?
A shopper
on Jul 16, 2020
BEST ANSWER: This device communicates via the Z-Wave wireless protocol, so you need to have a hub (like Samsung Smartthings) that it can connect to. Once it is connected to the hub, you can connect it to Alexa. via that hub's integration with Alexa. I don't use Alexa, but I would think you would open the Alexa app, add a new device and look for Smartthings, if that is the hub you are using.

I do NOT believe this device is compatible with Alexa. I have two of them and they are paired with my HomeSeer hub. Even in this setup, Alexa does not seem to "understand" the device... even though Alexa WILL turn on and off all of my z-wave lights. So the short answer is No.

It does require a hub of some sort to connect to Alexa. I have the smart things hub which runs about $60. You may want to look at the stitch motion. Just know it doesn’t have temperature. Essentially yes it does show in Alexa it just requires a hub.

I want to monitor the temperature inside my freezer. Would this work for that? Can the signal make it to my hub if the sensor is in my freezer?
Dan B

BEST ANSWER: No. The signal isn't strong enough to get past the metal housing. You need a device that has an external sensor on a wire that can be placed inside the freezer while leaving the Z-Wave transceiver outside. Can't post a link so search for "Qubino ZMNHEA1"

I would not worry about the signal. I'd be more worried about the electrics surviving. I have one outside under cover and it lasts about 2 years. I use an st‐814 in my freezer and it's still surviving after 4 years at -10f

How often does this update temperature and humidity settings? Can this value be changed?
A shopper
on Apr 26, 2019
BEST ANSWER: You can't set a time interval, but you can set a change interval for temperature (in degrees), humidity (in percent I believe), and light level (not sure what units this reports in). For example I have mine set to report temperature when it changes more than 1 degree for graphing purposes in grafana, I think the default is 10. How you set the parameters is going to vary based on what software you use. I use openHAB and it's super easy to set in the habmin thing setup

I just got one and it added to my Homeseer Z-wave network just fine. It adde six devices, 1 root device, 1 motion device, 1 temp device, 1 humidity device, 1 luminance device and 1 battery level device. All seems to be working. When I go to the root device and look at settings there's only one setting available directly from Homeseer and that is the "Wake-up Time". If you want to change any of the other device settings (LED Mode, etc.) you have to set the configuration parameters directly and I have been struggling a bit with that. I wanted to change the LED Operation Mode but can't seem to affect it as of yet. Can be kind of tricky sense you have to make sure you "wake it up" first before you try to read or write the settings. Probably user error, so far it looks to be working well.

This device only seems to report "low battery" status. Once it reports 0% to the controller, the controller will never get another status message. In other words, changing the batteries doesn't report 100%. Instead, you need to manually reset the status of the battery to 100% and then you'll get notified of a low battery again when it goes low.

I think the delay depends on which Zwave hub you are using. The new Wink hub is much faster than before in general.

Is there a SmartThings Device Handler in the works for this product? It currently does not report Lux/Light nor Humidity properly with any of the Aeon Labs or generic Device Handlers (as of 12.25.16). Thanks.

BEST ANSWER: UPDATE: this handler for smartthings seems to work much better: zooz-zse40-4-in-1-sensor I can not insert links here so you'll have to search github or google for appropriate groovy file.
steps to make it work:
1) install new handler from groovy file
2) assign new handler to multisensors via smartthings IDE
3) remove all sensors from 2) from smartthings(yes I had to do it otherwise sensors were not reporting motion)
4) re-assosiate sensors with smartthings hub - this time the hub will offer correct handler that was installed in 1) .

Once the handler is added for the device, do you need to re-associate the device for all of the sensors to work properly or will they work without removing & re-adding? Thanks for the info, by the way.
Thank you! I've been having issues with motion not reporting. I'll try these steps later this evening.

I'm using Aeon Multisensor Gen5 for it. how ever out of 3 sensors that I've got from monoprice only one reports motion more-less accurately. All three report temp/lux/himidity good enough. But I still have problems with motion being detected.

Is there a parameter to set temperature offset? Seems no one can make an accurate Temp sensor.
Shawn M
on Apr 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You could do this with a custom device handler for SmartThings but I haven't seen native offset control. As far as its accuracy, I put this near my wall thermostat and left it for a while to acclimate (it's not a quick read meat thermometer and the updates only get sent to the hub on defined change parameters to save battery). This device was .5 degrees away from the wall thermostat reading which is close enough for my needs and definitely could be attributed to the fact that they are a couple inches apart. Anyway, seems accurate enough for my uses.

It may deypend on the software you are using. With Homeseer HS3, there is a way on the "Status Graphics" tab to put in the offset.

Will this interface with the Ecobee 3?
Matthew K
on Aug 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I don't believe it interfaces directly. Ecobee 3 uses its own proprietary room sensors.
You could, however, leverage a platform such as smartthings, vera, openhab, etc. and get them to 'talk' that way. In my use case, I use the sensor to sense occupancy / temperature...and then feed commands to my thermostat via smartthings.

In order to use this with the ecobee you'll need to have a home hub like smartthings that can send the commands to the ecobee. It will not interface directly with the ecobee. If you're just looking to control the ecobee and don't need the added functionality of smartthings, it's best to just buy ecobee add on sensors.

Anyone know how to do a factory reset on this unit?
A shopper
on Oct 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: If it's not already paired, remove the batteries, plug them back in, and press the reset pinhole button on the bottom using a straightened paper clip. If already paired, you have to unpair (exclude) by putting your ZWave controller in Exclusion mode and pressing the reset pinhole button on the bottom. After this, the unit will blink multiple times each time you press the reset button. If it only blinks once, it thinks it's paired.

BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately we would not have a list of compatible Z-Wave hubs. I would recommend un-pairing then re-pairing the sensor to see if it will pick it up. If it does not show up it may just not be compatible with Wink.

Works great but disappointing battery life
This paired easily with Smart Things. It works great, with adjustable but excellent sensitivity and many programmable parameters, like frequency and threshold for reporting temperature and light, and latency for motion.
My only complaint is that a pair of AA batteries lasted only around 4 months, even with high temperature and light reporting thresholds. I replaced it with a Monoprice PIR motion sensor with CR123A battery which lasts more than a year (so far).
I have three Monoprice recessed door sensors, two PIR motion sensors, and two window sensors - and the 15902 needed way more batteries than all the others combined.

Works okay, but not ZOOZ
If you are expecting a ZOOZ 4-in-1 sensor, this is not the same, although it has the exact same outer shell. It is very difficult to pair, but once paired it works well enough.
The humidity level seem to be accurate, though I had one reporting 101% earlier today...
The light detection goes from 0 to 50. 50 is reached on a cloudy day by a window.
The temperature seems pretty accurate.
The motion sensor is good, but stays on way too long.

My favorite sensor
I own about 7 of these. I have used them with Smartthings, and now Hubitat. The Hubitat function is what dropped this from 5 to 4 stars, as well as the price. In Hubitat the battery state is not reliably reported. Also, I bought these when they were being sold at a $25 price point. Since they rose to $35 I haven't purchased any, they need to come down to $25 or under before I will purchase anymore.

Don't buy these.
I hate these sensors. I cannot keep them online. I use a Smartthings hub and have over 50 devices in my home but these are very intermittent.
I purchased 2 of these and at any time either one or both will go offline. One day they are on and the next they are off. I have performed a Z-wave repair and it doesn't help. I will not buy these again.

Reasonable Price, No Surprises...
I have read a number of reviews here on this device, but when it was offered for $10 I just HAD to try it. To be honest, I can't figure out why anyone would have anything bad to say about this device. The only thing I can feel sympathy about is the battery life. But the first thing I did was buy a 3vdc wall-wart and built two "fake" batteries out of dowel rod with brass screws in the end, connected to a cheap 5.1mm pigtail. So batteries are not an issue for me. I DID have to get pretty close to my Z-Wave controller to get it to "include" to my network, but what's new there? I have both devices running now, one on battery power and one on wall power. Haven't played around with all of the control options yet... but the motion sensor and all of the environmental measurements seem reasonable to me. Hope this helps --

Modified device using ac adapter.

Works good so far
I have this on Smartthings for a few weeks now. It seems to be working fine. The battery is still reporting 100% and that has been my most common complaint of Zwave devices. It reports accurate temp and triggers on motion and knock wood, so far no false motion activations.
The LUX reporting seems odd. It's not something I really care about but the room it is currently in is not bright but you could read a newspaper. The sensor calls that 2lux. That would be my only complaint, but like I said, I don't care about that.
