I'm doing this on a desktop, so I don't see why it wouldn't work on a laptop.

Yes, it worked for me to do exactly that. I do not have a 4K monitor, though

Does this cable support 4K at 60Hz?

BEST ANSWER: Hello, thank you for your question. This item does support 4k at 60hz. Please make sure your videocard is capable of outputting at that resolution and that frequency as well as the monitor you are connecting it to. This cable will transfer that resolution and frequency fine. I hope that helps, thank you!

I am currently using the 15ft version of this cable with my Asus MG279q however I am getting flickering from my monitor. Not only am I getting this flickering, the monitor is also black screening for 1 second then coming back..... this happens randomly not sure why... Sometimes turning on and off the monitor helps and it goes away for a bit. Any suggestions as to why this happens??

Is this cable bidirectional? Can I connect this to a full-size displayport output (from the Select Series USB-C to DisplayPort Adapter) to a minidp port on my monitor? If so, is there any disadvantage to doing this?

Monoprice Select Series Mini DisplayPort 1.2 to DisplayPort 4K Capable Cable, 1.5ft
Monoprice Select Series USB-C to DisplayPort Adapter
BEST ANSWER: MiniDisplayPort to DisplayPort is just a straight through cable since all the signals are the same (doesn't matter if the connectors are male or female). That means it's bidirectional. You should be able to use it with the USB-C (alt-mode) to DisplayPort adapter to connect your computer with USB-C (alt-mode) port to a display with Mini DisplayPort input.
You can chain multiple DisplayPort/Mini DisplayPort adapters together. It's a digital signal, so there would need to be a lot of noise before a problem in the signal causes display artifacts, but fewer adapters in the chain is better.

Had an issue with no signal but it was fixed when I removed the this and the monitor power cable for one minute before reattaching them.
I would recommend a cable long enough to give yourself some margin of error. 1.5ft is ok if the ports are right next to each other. Otherwise, play it safe with the 3ft cable.

Just what I needed to work from home
I needed to connect a 2015 Mac Book Air to a 10-year-old Delll monitor. Perfect link between the two for an extended desktop!

Everything worked out fine. Only bad thing for me was the cord was not long enough.

When I was buying my mini DP to displayport chord, i chose 6-ft length. Then as I was processing my order, it got defaulted to 1.5ft which I believe was a system issue. Now im stuck with a too-short cable.

Very high quality product. My only complaint is that I wished it was offered in a longer size!

Good cable, 144Hz refreshrate support
I got this little thing to connect my Surface pro to my monitor. It works great, and supports 144Hz at 1080p, I love high refresh rate, even on the desktop. Works flawlessly.
I haven't tested 4K though, and the plastic on the bigger connector feels cheapish. 1.5ft is also way shorter than I expected, I'd keep that in mind.

Worked as advertised
Worked as advertised for Surface Pro 4. Just remember to check the length so you can move the monitors if needed.
