Yes, that is what I use it for. Just make sure you have a cable for each obviously and a third for plugging into the wall. This also needs to be plugged into an outlet, just do you're aware. Works great for me.

Yes you can, when you plug this device in you will get 5 new slots to plug in 5 different devices. Think of it like a power extension cable. If you plug it to the wall you can now power 5 different devices.

Could i connect multiple consoles and not lose any speed while all running at the same time or i can only use one at the time for internet?
A shopper
on Aug 1, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes, all the consoles connected to the switch will be able to use the internet at the same time. Keep in mind that the switch is still limited to 1000Mbps or to the speed of the internet connection plugged into it, whichever is slower. If you are wondering, 1000Mbps, also called gigabit per second, is considered really fast for residential homes. If you experience slow internet on your consoles while using this switch most likely it is because of the internet service you pay for being too slow.

You can connect as many ethernet devices (consoles?) as there are ports (5), and the total amount of data throughput is 1000 Mbps. This is normally much, much faster than your home internet, so this switch won't really be the bottleneck for internet speed.. Netflix HD streaming is supposed to only be 5.8 Mbps, so every device that's plugged in will easily be able use the internet, even streaming, at the same time.

By consoles I assume you mean computers, laptops and gaming consoles, and yes you should be able to use them all at the same time. Unless you have some incredibly fast internet the switch will carry all that your connection can deliver.

The switch itself can handle up to a gig of traffic at a time. That's a lot of data. The limiter here will most likely be your home internet connection as most don't go above a gig in speed.

I have 2 on my home LAN, more or less working as "extension cords, running wired and wireless, on the LAN, works fine. . It's a "dumb" or unmanaged switch. One port from your existing "live" connection (LAN/Internet), the rest for extra "goodies". 802.1x (wireless) protocols shouldn't come into play, as I'm assuming you'll be connecting from one of your routers Cat5 ports.

This switch is described as unmanaged. Therefore it definitely doesn’t not support management protocols such as 802.1x. Very very basic layer 2 switch.
