Purchased my Workstream Adjustable Table Desk Frame (Product # 15722) in 2020, Now the Controller does not work. The controller lights up but all I get is three dashes (hyphens "- - -") on the display and no response from any of the controls. I've checked all the cabling and everything is connected properly. I also completely un-plugged the unit for a day, then re-powered. Still no response as described above. Is there a way to purchase a new controller for this unit?

BEST ANSWER: This is a "feature" not a bug. The control panel automatically locks itself (to prevent inadvertently bumping the desk up and down, I suppose...) Press the "M" button for three seconds and the control panel will unlock. I wish there was better documentation from the manufacturer, but it's quite buried and I had to reach out to them.

Are the other controls (T,M) lit but unresponsive? It is possible the unit has gone into lock mode, which can happen from inactivity. Press and hold the M button for at least 3 seconds. After that you should see full display light up and height adjustment becomes active.

That mode is the child lock mode. If you hold down the M button for about 3 seconds, the 3 dashes will turn into the current height of the table, at which point you can adjust the height.

Three dashes sometimes mean its in childlock for controls. Before replacing the unit, would try holding one of the preset for long time (10 sec or so I believe) and see if it works.

Have you verified that the controller isn't locked? If you power on the system, then hold down the "M" for 5-7 seconds, it should change the three dashes to the height value.

Can the legs be used without the cross beam and attach them, and the other electronic components, directly to the underside of the desktop?
Shannon F
on Apr 19, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you can mount everything independently underside the desktop. The crossbeam has three sections, and the motor-driven legs can either mount to the independent sections of the crossbar or directly to the desk underside. The center section of the crossbeam can be taken out, rendering remaining sections independent. The electronic controls can easily be mounted to the underside using wire clamps and ties or velcro. Just be sure the desktop is sturdy enough without the crossbeam assembly, or add your own custom support. I am totally pleased with this unit!

Not easily (probably not safely). The motors are housed at the top of each leg, so there is a block shaped housing at the top of the leg, which fits inside the top frame. The legs fasten to the top frame and that's where all the rigidity comes from. It would be very difficult to mount the legs to a top without the top frame and still have any lateral strength to keep the legs from folding over sideways.

Maybe, but it is definitely not designed for that and would require some customization work in order to attach the legs solidly to the desktop. The legs are definitely not meant to be attached directly to a flat surface. And unless your desk is very shallow, you'll likely end up with some instability front to back.

It appears to me that is possible, but you would have to figure out your own way of attaching all the items to the underside of the desktop. that includes the wiring system that connects the two leg motors. I would not imagine it would be better to avoid the cross beam and would not recommend it.

I'd like to use this with a 49" TV/Monitor. Would I need to secure it (VESA bracket, etc.) or is the raising/lowering motion of the desktop smooth enough that the TV won't fall over if I just use the existing TV legs (no mount)?

BEST ANSWER: Hi, this sit-stand desk frame is smooth and operation won't cause instability by itself if the TV and desk are setup properly. Just make sure there are no obstructions when the desk is being adjusted.
But having said that, we still recommend securing your TV if you have that option. This is because the taller desk could present increased risk if your TV were to become unstable like from accidentally bumping it, having kids or big pets running around the desk, or if an earthquake (knock on wood) were to happen. Hope this helps.

Is there a way to attach a power strip or UPS?
A shopper
on Nov 13, 2019
BEST ANSWER: We ran the cord from the power strip down through the wire management hole in the top of the desk. it works like a charm as long as you make sure the cord is long enough not to pull out of the wall outlet at the top and bottom positions of the desk. You could also lay the power strip in the optional wire management panel that hangs off the back of the desk, if you buy that. We love this desk.

I don't see any real way to attach a power strip to the frame itself, other than with two-sided tape or some other adhesive. However, I don't see why you couldn't attach a power strip to the underside of whatever desk top you attach to the frame.

Yes, just hold on your finger over the M icon for a few seconds and the digits will come back on which means it's ready to change height. This is the timed protection of the panel to avoid accidental raising/lowering by brushing against the panel. Drove me nuts until I found this in one of the answers.

To unlock it, hold your finger on the pad until it unlocks, about 3-5 seconds.

Where does the power cord attach? Does it dangle from the top of the legs, and therefore moves up and down with the desk or is it run out the bottom of one of the legs so you don't have to worry about the power cord moving up and down with the desk?
Scott R
on Jan 14, 2021
BEST ANSWER: The power cord plugs into to a power adapter that mounts directly under the top of the desk, and that power adapter has other connections that drive the motors in the legs. This is the case even with other models of sit-stand motorized desks I've seen. You don't want the main power cord in the leg mechanism because they already have their individual motor cords in there and there is no provision for anything additional. I would recommend a flexible cord tube that you can buy at the national DIY stores - using zip ties, attach this with the cord in it to the inside of the BOTTOM section only of the leg that remains stationary, and leave some slack in the top portion so that it can rise and fall with the top of the desk as it moves. Done correctly with the appropriate slack, you can then attach the very top of this tube to the bottom of the desktop and lead it to the power module. That will contain the cord, looking finished, while still allowing all the moving parts to work properly.

I have mine running to left side of the table to a power strip. I have it velcroed loosely so it can move up and down as the table moves. I have two power strips daisy chained mounted underneath the table to power the rest of my devices. So total two cables running down the table. I love this table. I have two 27" monitors, laptop, mixer, speakers and haven't had an issue for a year. I am constantly raising and lowering the table throughout the day daily since March 2019. BEST ANSWER: Probably. I'm using it with an 81" desk (48"x33") and I'm loving it - it's a game changer. The legs are extendable horizontally, so you should be able to adjust it for good support. Just add up the weight of the desktop and whatever you plan to put on the desk, and if it doesn't exceed 175 lbs I would think you'd be fine.

I would think a 96" top would be pushing the limits. The frame only adjusts out to 67" which would leave a lot of overhang on the sides. Per the item specs:
Adjustable desk width works with desktops 43" ~ 87" wide
Product # 36078 may better serve your needs.

I tried it initially just to see and while the unit had no problem lifting the centering of the frame for balance means it will cross some open area in the inner point. If the inner point is one of those rounded desks it may not be exposed. The legs on this unit are quite stabilizing. I was surprised how stable it was lifting the desk. Having said that I opted to remove one desk top and just use one.

Is this desk frame compatible with a glass top if I use non-slip grip pads?

BEST ANSWER: Hi, we have not tested the frame with glass tops, but it should work if you can secure it properly to be safe. Using heavy duty mounting adhesives might be more secure than using non-slip pads, but it could prevent easy disassembly if needed. Another option is to use heavy duty adhesives with glass mounting hardware that would allow you to screw the top to the frame. Hope this helps.

I'd say this is not ideal but possibly doable. If your instrument is less than 2ft deep (front to back) then the top of the frame will stick out. Also, relying on just gravity to hold your instrument in place might be undesirable. The frame does come with some rubber pads that might help things to slip around less. Furthermore, if you have an angle grinder you could shave off an extra 10.5 inches and still have some remaining mounting holes to screw in some supports or a smaller desktop. One other consideration for your use case is that this base is quite heavy and so you probably don't want to move it around your studio much and certainly don't take it on the road.

I bought a 8x4ft piece of precut pine wood for like 80$ and used wood stain to make my own top. I don’t see why couldn’t if you can bolt it down some how or you could just make your own top for cheap. It’s a very heavy base so I wouldn’t expect to move this thing around constantly.

It is probably not recommended. I personally think it would strain the mechanism. It is pretty solid however. Also might be difficult to mount casters as there is only a rubber pad on all corners. I cannot look under as I have the desk fully set up

Monoprice Sit-Stand Dual-Motor Height Adjustable Table Desk Frame, Electric, White
BEST ANSWER: This product has not been tested with a glass top so this configuration can not be recommended. Also, it would be best to consult with the glass top manufacturer on your mounting options. You might want to explore metal glass adapters that would stick to the glass bottom using a strong clear adhesive and would use screws to attach to the table frame.

Tempered glass and provided rubber screw grommets worked for me. You might consider an clear silicone. Also you will want a strip of material to cover the mechanical channel (approx. 4" wide).

How well with this work with a 60" wide by 32" deep desk. I hear some people saying they work pretty good on 55 inches but I'm not sure how much overhang there will be. How wide does the top part (that mounts to the desk) sit. does it sit 55 inches apart so each side will have 2.5 inches of overhang or does it sit like 45 inches wide for 12.5 inches per side of overhang ? Id like to have no more than a couple inches of overhang and this is a good price, its just a big desk I have that I have really came to like.

BEST ANSWER: I have a 60x22 inch top. There is about a 5.5 inch overhang on the side, and less than half and inch on the front/back side of the desk.
The width of the legs is adjustable. I believe I still had some room to go wider during the build. The specifications of the desk should be able to confirm how wide a top it will support.

Is there way to turn off protective standby mode?

BEST ANSWER: I don't think there is a way to do this. For a while I couldn't get out of the standby mode without having to remove/reapply power to the control unit. After a few times of doing this though it did start to work. I think the key was to just let it go into standby mode by itself. I think there is a bug in the software associated with manually putting it in standby mode and then sitting long enough for the screen to go blank. I've been using the table for several months now being able to come out of standby without having to remove power.

Sturdy, simple to set up, good price.
The desk seems to be very well constructed. Assembly with fairly quick and pretty intuitive. Once assembled, I ran it from low to high and was amazed. I'm pretty sure an 8 foot tall person could use it as a standing desk and at it's lowest could probably accommodate a child sitting at a small desk.
I purchased a wood plank, and finished it myself. Very economical and gives me the wood look I was looking for.

Great desk, but one minor issue...
Overall this is a fantastic desk. Easy to assemble and VERY sturdy. It looks really nice in my office as well. It was very easy to adjust to fit the tabletop that I purchased for it.
One minor issue is that the controller auto locks after a few minutes and the display shows "- - -", which was not clear from the manual. I had to go search to figure out why the desk was not responding to commands. You have to unlock it every time you want to change positions and there does not appear to be a way to change that setting.

I never give bad reviews, but.....
....this has been an absolute disaster for me. I usually love MOnoprice, but not this defective piece fo crap from China. DONT GET IT -- GOOD IDEA IN THEORY, BUT DOESNT WORK EVEN AFTER A REPLACEMENT UNIT WAS SENT. Controller unit apparently defective and after a replaced control unit, it works erratically if at all. First unit I got had a faulty controller box, simply wouldnt operate legs. Monoprice customer service troubleshot with me, very nice, offered to switch out, but they couldnt just send me a new controller box, had to send me a complete new set with desk legs and all (heavy, big box, huge waste of shipping cost), and I had to remove the controller from the new box, switch out my controller and send it back with the giant box with legs I didnt touch. OK, it worked for another couple of days and then stopped working properly -- it would go up 3-4 inches, get an E5 error, go back down an inch or two, then i had to hit the button to get it up another couple of inches, it would get to E5 again and go back down etc. Would take ten or 12 steps like this to get to desired height, and did the same thing with programmed heights too. Real frustrating. tried unpluging, resetting, etc, same issue. But even worse, now it is completely frozen and showing a new error message not even in the instructions r5r. Complete waste of money. Don't say I didnt warn you...

Quality and quiet performance
I already owned a sit-stand desk from a top manufacturer but needed something a bit more budget conscious for my second. I was surprised at the build quality and whisper quiet dual-motor in this unit! The adjustment range was also better than expected. The reason this isn?t a 5-star review was the installation / accessbility of wire management tray which could use a design revision.
