BEST ANSWER: It splits one input into two exact duplicate outputs. The outputs are independent though. It still works if you just connect one and not the other, or if you connect both, but only have one active.

Well, it is a splitter meaning that it takes one input and duplicates that input to both outs simultaneously. A typical scenario would be feeding two screens from the same source.

What does the COPY/AUTO switch next to the power input do?
Angela S
on Dec 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It affects how the EDID info (Extended display identification data) is passed to the input port. Copy forces the device to always use the port 2 EDID. Auto lets the splitter pick which EDID to use.

EDID Mode:

Auto Mode: compare output port 1 and 2 EDID.

on Dec 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It depends...is your problem resolution or HDMI VERSION related? At first, I thought my issue was a resolution issue(8" LCD panel on one and UHD TV on the other), but after looking closer at what was happening(each monitor worked on splitter by itself, but not both at same time) Turned out to be a HDMI version issue(LCD panel was ver. 1.0 and TV was ver. 1.2). Since mine was a VERSION issue, this device works GREAT! Both panels receive the SAME resolution from source device. I don't think resolution on the viewing device matters, only source HDMI version matters on bi-directional communication like HDMI! This device allows two DIFFERENT HDMI versions to view, at the same time, from a single source HDMI signal!(Source HDMI version doesn't matter) Each of my monitors are set to different resolutions. Hope this helps!

What is the difference or benefits between an AMPLIFIER splitter and a POWERED splitter?
A shopper
on Mar 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. A POWERED splitter will use a separate power source to provide power to the splitter. Some switches and splitters can be powered by the HDMI signal. An AMPLIFIER splitter can also be powered except it will amplify the HDMI output signal to assist with longer runs but also helps maintain a reliable signal. I hope this helps.

It would be recommended to use a thicker gauge HDMI cable for a longer run or using an Active HDMI cable for the output. This item does not bypass or strip HDCP from the signal at all.
The version of HDCP an item supports would determine what can pass through it.
So this can pass any signal that is HDCP 1.4 or lower but not anything higher than that.

This item does not bypass or strip HDCP from the signal at all.
The version of HDCP an item supports would determine what can pass through it.
So this can pass any signal that is HDCP 1.4 or lower but not anything higher than that.

Blackbird HDMI Splitter
The Blackbird splitter is nice compact unit that was easy to install and works wonderfully with the Monoprice HDMI cable purchased.

Not The Same Unit As Advertised
Although is has the same product name & part number, the unit I received is missing the COPY/AUTO switch. It seems to be functioning normally.

Good
It works perfectly. The only reason for not given the 5 stars is that it won't work directly to the USB. It needs a power block directly to an outlet.

Great little box that does what it is supposed to
We use these to mirror a laptop in classrooms onto multiple screens (50/65/70") displays. For the most part, our classrooms just need two TVs. This little devices works great, and is powered through USB on the TV so that makes it easier, since not all laptops push enough power out through HDMI to drive the lengths we need (approx 25')
