If I am connecting 2 cables of different lengths, will connecting it closer to the source vs the display make a difference in quality? If so, which side should the repeater be closer to?

BEST ANSWER: Sorry for my bad English.
I tested direct connection PC and TV with 2 cables (5m each) + AV Reciever. And Tested with this device: 5m cable + Blackbird + 5m cable - all works fine. And no any quality changes.
But you can use only 4k@60Hz + 4:4:4 + 8bit. It cant correct work with 4k@60Hz + 4:4:4 + 10bit - HDMI 2.0/2.b cant transfer so many data.

You did not specify the lengths of your HDMI cables. Be that as it may, the repeater should be positioned as close to the DISPLAY as possible.

Can this product amplify signals such that a 30 Hz signal (currently) could be boosted to a 60 Hz signal?

BEST ANSWER: No. This is a repeater: it will only repeat what it was given. If a 30Hz signal is given, it will repeat a 30Hz signal. It will not change it.

It just repeats the input signal, so if you have a 30Hz input, it will be a 30Hz output

Sorry for my lack of clarity. Currently, my signal goes in at 60 Hz from the 4k 60 Hz capable Denon AV receiver via Apple TV 4k or Roku Ultra, but it degrades to 30 Hz going into the projector probably due to the cable length or cable type. My questions is, will/can this improve that signal at the projector to 60 Hz?.
Right, but what if I am currently sending a 60 Hz signal and it is coming out at the projector at 30 Hz? Will this maintain the 60 Hz?

Jeff M didn't answer the question concerning HDR. I can confirm using a Monoprice HDMI certified cable of 20' (Marantz AV8802A) + repeater + 10' Monoprice HDMI certified cable works just fine for HDR and 4K from a Roku Ultra. The Marantz shows the HDMI signal to be 4k/60Hz Y'CbCr 4:2:2 on the menu screen and 4k/60Hz BT.2020 during a show labeled as Ultra HD 4k and with an HDR symbol in the Netflix menu. For reference, I am using a 3' Monoprice HDMI certified from the Roku Ultra and the chain is connected to a Samsung UN65JS9500 TV.

My answer above is not complete. Sorry, but after further testing, this combo does not always work successfully with a Roku Ultra for 4k UHD HDR. After long periods of being off or sometimes just switching inputs back and forth, I tend to get handshake issues between my AVR and TV with sparkles, white blips and popping hiss until I change the input then come back to the Roku Ultra. It's almost there, but just not quite the solution for run greater than 20'.

I bought two of these to allow for HDMI ports on a conference table to reach a wall-mounted HD tv/monitor. They seem to be working great but there is an occasional black-out for a couple seconds every 15-30 minutes. Source is a MacBook Pro with built-in HDMI. Is there any troubleshooting I can try?

BEST ANSWER: I'm sorry to hear that, I would recommend trying a lower resolution output from the MacBook Pro to see if the issue still occurs. You can try a different source and assist in seeing if it is the repeater experiencing the issue. Also, swapping the HDMI cables to see if the issue still occurs.

Do I need to use this repeater as a junction between 2 shorter cables, or can I place it near the AVR or the projector attached to a single 25' Redmere active HDMI cable? Currently, the Redmere will not pass 4kHDR at 60fps, only 24 fps

BEST ANSWER: Previously I could not get the certified premium high speed HDR (18Gbps) HDMI at 15 ft or 10 ft or a active Luxe series CL3 20 ft (Gbps) to pass a 4K HDR 60p signal; However, I used the 4k Pro HDMI repeater in several configurations and they all worked: 10ft passive (HDMI) - repeater - 10 ft passive, 3 ft passive - repeater - 15 ft passive, 15 ft passive - repeater - 3 ft passive, 10 ft passive - repeater - 6 ft passive. All these worked without signal drop, and I could not see a noticeable difference. I'm currently running 3 ft passive HDMI to repeater to 15 ft Passive HDMI, and works great. I never tried Redmere, but I thought they only ran at 4k at 24 Hz, with 10.2Gbps, I could be wrong. Maybe upgrade to a 18Gbps cable also?

Between my TiVo Bolt & Sony x940D, I have a 3 ft Ultra Slim Active HDMI cable (rated as 4K @ 60Hz) connected to the Blackbird, followed by a 60 ft Select Active Series High Speed HDMI (rated as 4K @ 24Hz). The Tivo insists I only have 1080p. When I change the Tivo resolution to 2160p, I see the red screen of death. If I select 2160p Pass Thru I will see 4K content in Netflix but not Amazon, but the Tivo will revert it back to 1080p after a couple of days. I thought that the Blackbird would increase the signal from 4k @ 24Hz to 60Hz? Did I misunderstand? Am I doing something wrong?

BEST ANSWER: Sorry to hear of the issues you have experienced with this item. Perhaps the issue is at the first 3ft Active HDMI cable. Active HDMI cables are best used when the end labeled "TV" or "Display" is connected directly to a TV's HDMI input. I would recommend trying and swapping the 3ft cable with a non active HDMI cable. Such as our Certified Premium HDMI cables which are capable of 4K@60Hz.

Works great so far boosting two HDMI runs 35' . I didn't even have to upgrade to nicer cables as it was able to get wires I already owned working at the distance required.

alternative to active HDMI cable?
I wound up not needing this repeater, but I did test it by using it to connect a 25 foot HDMI cable to a 20 foot HDMI cable (both passive Monoprice). The 45 foot total length cable was put between my Denon receiver and Samsung TV. Unlike the Monoprice active cable (# 14132), it had no problem passing the signal when I had the Denon switch between sources. The active cable would not let the receiver and TV handshake/synch and required unplugging and replugging to get a picture again. This 4K Pro repeater worked just like I had a single passive cable attached. I like the red LED that lights up when the input is connected.
