What wattage does run to in class A?
A shopper
on Oct 1, 2022
It's question best answered by Monoprice they're a little thin on the specs. My experience with this amp has been great. I've had Parasound and B&K amps, this very similar, beefy, smooth with good detail and dynamics. I'm running Infinity Kappa speakers, 6 ohm load and it has livened up their presentation. It's quiet and never gets hot like the Parasound or B&K. ATI does the assembly and think it might be their design, they're are well respected Co. out of Cal. Would buy again.

My understanding of the manual's instruction, is that you should not plug the amplifier into a plug socket that is on the back of another audio component.
For eg. some receivers have their own plug socket on the rear panel that can be used if you have run out of plug sockets elsewhere.
I don't see any problem with using a power board or power conditioner.
Perhaps email monoprice with this question for absolute clarity.
Maybe also recommend a revision of this instruction in the manual so it is more clear to all readers.
Most manufacturers appreciate this kind of feedback.

3 x 200 watts plus inefficiencies = 800+ watts or ~ 7 amperes - you don't want that kind of current going through your pre-amp et al, even as a pass-thru. check you power conditioner rating also.

I have my Monolith 7 connected to a Marantz 7702mkII pre-amp. It's switched on via a remote trigger connection between the two units. I upgraded the stock power cords with Audioquest NRG-4's and both are connected to a Furman Elite PF15 power conditioner . No problems whatsoever. I turn on the pre-amp and the pre-amp turns on the Monoprice Monolith. I surmise the manual is cautioning against users experiencing power surges through switched outlets, etc.

Does this amp have any sort of auto power on when a signal is detected? Or must you physically press the front power button to turn on or off?

BEST ANSWER: It has a 12V trigger input. So, it will not autosense and turn itself on, but if your Receiver/Pre-Amp/Source has a 12V trigger out (most high end equipment does) you can run a 3.5mm mono cable from the trigger out to the trigger in, and the amp will turn on whenever your receiver/pre-amp/source turns on.

How is the volume controlled so that all channels are equal?

BEST ANSWER: I have a Denon receiver and use the mono amp as you plan to. The volume is controlled by the receiver. You don't want the volume of all channels to be equal. You don't want the surround speakers, which are typically closer to the main listening position, to overpower the listener. The best way is to calibrate your set up is to use Audyssey Dynamic EQ. It sounds more complicated than it is. Good luck.

I use the 3 channel with a Yamaha AVR ( also a 5.1.2 setup ) and I love it. On the AVR you can adjust the levels of each channel to make them balanced, just like you would without using the amp. Then when you turn up the volume the AVR, all 3 channels go up and down proportionally. Works great, sounds awesome!

BEST ANSWER: Hi Matt, sorry but I gave you incorrect info before. The back of the amp actually says 1800W not 1500W as I wrote before. However in real world use trying it just now, playing movies and music I rarely saw more than 1200W on my killawatt meter and it usually hovered around 500W - 800W most of the time. This is with all 3 channels driven with 90db/w efficient 4ohm speakers to ear bleeding levels. Hope this helps.

According to silk screening on the back of the Monolith it says 1500W. That is the max, which is unlikely for any length of time with music or movies. Typical residential circuits are usually 15A x 120v = 1800W or 20A x 120V = 2400W.
I have my entire HT on a 20A circuit. The Monolith 3ch, dual 350W subs and 140W per ch receiver driving 4 channels. Never a problem.

Hey, three outputs; where do I connect my subwoofer? If you say in parallel with the left and right channels, this always confuses me. Since there is not a high pass filter on the channels, my desktop speakers will receive the full range of frequencies and attempt to play them. Which I would think we don't want. What say you? Thanks great product.

on Jul 4, 2020
I assume you own an active subwoofer (with amplification built-into the unit). If it's the case, do not power that signal with this amp!
If your sub is passive, either channel will do. Even if there is marking on the back to identify channels (Front Left, Front Right, Center, etc.) there is no active high pass or low pass filter being applied by this unit. It's a simple and clean power amp that does just that. So you can basically plug your passive subwoofer in any channel you like.

No good reason. Per the manual and other answers here: "Do not plug the amplifier into a switched outlet on a preamplifier or other audio component", such as an auxiliary equipment power plug on the back of a receiver. These are not designed to handle high-current loads. Plugging it into an an appropriate non-overloaded power conditioner should be fine.

You would need to use an RCA splitter. Since these splitters are generally stereo, you will also need to use a stereo to mono RCA adapter for each channel. Search for a 1x8 rca splitter to get you started.

TODD L
on Sep 20, 2019
BEST ANSWER: There are 2 to different causes for excessive vibration noise. One is small amounts of DC on the AC line. Generally this causes a hum that comes and goes sometimes it’s depends on
the time of day. This has to be resolved with the power company. The other is if the hum is very steady, the same all the time. This of course depends on how close you are to the amplifier. If you are more then 2-3 feet from the amplifier you shouldn’t be able to hear any noise from the amplifier.
A mechanical vibration from an AC transformer is impossible to eliminate completely. Obviously we do everything we can to reduce the acoustic noise as much as possible. We design the transformers with special cores, epoxy impregnated windings, etc. They're mounted on rubber pads in the chassis to reduce vibration.

BEST ANSWER: There are 2 to different causes for excessive vibration noise. One is small amounts of DC on the AC line. Generally this causes a hum that comes and goes sometimes it’s depends on

Large main room 30ft x 30ft x10ft ht.
Denon x3300 Ave. Psb x2t and dual svs 3000 subs
Polk 3 way center. Volume needs to be increased on the amp significantly to get it loud. Will this work with the x3300?The manual says it does have preouts

Monolith user manual recommends that we use at least 14 AWG (american wire gauge). Prewiring on my speakers was done with 16 AWG. Distance between my LCR speakers and the rack where the amp will be placed will be more than 18 feet. Is it still okay to use Monolith amp?

How hot does this get? My space has an open front, 4 inches on each side and a closed back. At 7” tall leaves only 1.75” on top.

BEST ANSWER: This amp doesn't get hot, I've had Parasound and B&K amps that you could cook a egg on. You do need some air flow though. Can you modify your cabinet?

Great addition for both home theater and 2 channel music setup.
This Monolith 3x200 is feeding my 3 front channels, which needed more power to sound their best. This amp was just what I needed to get more performance for both 2 channel listening and the front stage of my 11.1 home theater. Now I don?t have to worry about clipping at high volume and the sound is clean and detailed.
Just fit in place in my console. Looks great. Sounds great.

Now I'm thinking I should have got the 4 or 5 channel model.
Using for front and center channel speakers with Marantz SR7013 9.2 receiver. Klipsch Forte fronts and RP 504C center are clear and crisp. Also Forte's are sounding much better on 2 channel. Complete system is improved.

Monoprice 3x200 Am I Happy? Good Value?
Am I happy? YES Good Value? YES. To add a little more, against my expectations, I wasn't expecting a great difference in sound but there it was. The sound was fuller and had a much larger presence. The biggest and best change was noticed with the center channel. Dialog was clear, and well projected into the room.
Is this just me giving a biased review? Well during last nights movie night I asked my wife and her sister what they thought. They mentioned the dialog as being much clearer than before.
This is powering the front 3 channels in a 7.2 Home Theatre. Axiom loudspeakers are used along with a pair of SVS cylinder subs.
I do have to mention the weight of this beast, it is heavy. But having said that I am 75 years young and managed to get it down the basement and into the audio rack all by myself. If I did it so can you. If you can do it buy one, it's a real treat. And no...I'm not getting paid to say this.
Peace

Here it is in the audio rack, pairs perfectly with the Denon.

Great Amplifier
This amplifier runs my LRC (Klipsch RP series) perfectly. At full volume they play loud and crisp. It runs cool even during long sessions. Adding this to my system did create a ground loop from my projectors hdmi cable. I grounded the Amplifiers chassis to my receivers chassis which solved the problem. Overall this amplifier is a great addition to my system.

I'm very happy with my purchase. I'm running all Infinity Kappa speakers 7.1 with a Denon 4400h AVR. The Denon didn't have power to drive the front array but adding this amp has done the job. I've had some Parasound 2200ii in the past and this amp is very similar, smooth and dynamic, it has brought more detail. The 6 ohm rating of the Infinity's shows this amp has the chops to deliver. I also have two Monolith Ultra 12 subs in the mix and find them to be a welcomed addition adding to the experience that even show musical qualities when required. Well made products

Great front stage amp
This was a great purchase. I recently paired this amp with a Marantz 8802A pre/pro and it has been a sweet little upgrade over the Marantz SR line of AV receivers. I have heard improved details and dynamicss in movies as well as two channel listening. The measurement test on Audioholics was what sold me on this over the Emotiva. The fact that ATI is behind the engineering and design of this means something. Amplifiers made in the USA are hard to come by these days.

Very Heavy
This is likely one of the best bang for buck amplifiers in this price range.
