I have a narrow-depth desk and a ultra-widescreen monitor that is too close to my eyes. Can this arm move my monitor further away from me and behind the desk?
A shopper
on Sep 26, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Maybe. It will certainly be able to move the front of the screen farther to the back edge of your desk, but your monitor will likely collide with the arm if you move it too far back. Also check to make sure you can put the clamp to the right or left side of your desk for best adjustability.

Can this be bolted to a wall or desktop, rather than clamped?
Google E
on Dec 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: this can be bolted to a desktop. It comes with an attachment for that specific application. You will have to drill a hole in the top of your desk to insert the bolt through. And then you'll have to crawl underneath the desk to tighten it. I do not believe that this could be used on a wall.

Not sure about wall, but there are parts in the box to let you use a bolt (included) down from the bottom of the base and through the surface of a desk. I have a built-in desk with no space behind it, so this is how I have mine mounted. Be aware, though, that the base will be offset from the center of the monitor when you push it fully back.

Yes. I have mine clamped to a custom table and am able to swing them pretty low. I would guess that at least half of the monitor can go below the plane they’re clamped to. (I don’t have them here with me so I can’t be absolutely certain how low they go)

The center of your VESA mount (center of rotation pinion) will go as low as 170mm from desktop. The amount of monitor that would go below plane of desktop would depend on size of monitor. The pdf download is available that shows measurements.

No, it wouldn’t work for that. The up/down hinging is only on the “higher” knuckle of the mount, not the knuckle close to the surface mount. So the part closest to the monitor only lowers as far as a few inches above the desk surface.

The monitor will not go down that far with these arms. If you pivot the monitor to face the wall it will go down to where the bottom of the monitor is even with the table top.

BEST ANSWER: To determine compatibility with a TV mount to your TV, please determine the VESA mounting pattern on the back of your TV. It is the 4 screw hole square formation on the back and it is usually listed on the TV specs or you can find out by measuring it yourself(measured in millimeters). Our TV mounts range from 50x50mm to 1000x700 and up so please check the TV mount specs for compatibility as well. I hope this helps, thank you!

I'm the original poster. I bought the monitor arm and mounted my Dell U3011 without any problems. Like Roman M said, you just have to tighten the resistance settings on the gas spring. Initially I had them cranked so tight I could barely move the arm, but then I found the sweet-spot and now the monitor moves where I want it with just two fingers. As usual, another solid product from Monoprice.

Is there a wider bracket that can be used for this mount if my desk is thicker and the normal bracket won’t lock to desk?
A shopper
on Mar 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Not that I know of, but you don't have to use the clamp.
The clamp mount wouldn't work with my desk's overhang, so instead I chose to use the simple grommet mount straight through the desktop. To brace my desk's relatively thin surface I added a 6"x6" piece of 3/4" plywood, underneath the desk, drilled to match the bolts. It's clamped down _tight_ and is very stable with my Acer 34"

Can the rotation be locked so that the weight of the monitor or iMac will not cause it to rotate around loosely based on the weight of the computer or monitor?

BEST ANSWER: Hi, I’m not sure if it can be solidly locked, but I was able to adjust the parts of rotation with the included Allen wrench so that I can control the rotation and position of my monitor without it falling. I currently use an LG 34” ultrawide monitor so it’s a bit on the heavier side. Just make sure your monitor does not exceed the weight limit of the arm.

The rotation cannot be locked but the movement is not loose - force is required to make it rotate, so if what you're mounting is within the weight limit I don't think it would rotate on its own.

Workstream by Monoprice Single Monitor Adjustable Gas Spring Desk Mount for 15~34in Monitors
Monoprice Gas-Lift Height Adjustable Sit-Stand Mobile Rolling Workstation Laptop and Computer Desk V2
BEST ANSWER: Hi, this should be a good combination and the easy monitor adjustment works well with desk height adjustments to keep the monitor at comfortable levels.
We recommend keeping the center the weight and lower the center of gravity as much as possible when the desk is being moved to maximize stability. Also note that this monitor mount does not lock the screen position in place and instead uses counter-balancing force to provide quick monitor adjustments, so the monitor could move while the desk is in motion. It shouldn't be a problem during use, but if you need something more stable, we have other type of monitor mounts that are less adjustable.

Base arm does not rotate. The bolt does not budge using a hex wrench. It seems frozen. Any suggestions for how to open the rotation?

BEST ANSWER: Hi, the base arm only adjusts 270 degrees and would not be able to get a full 360 degree rotation. If this was the issue, the limit is by design.
But if you mean the base arm does not move at all, it's possible that the material might be binding, either because it is still new, possibly from big temperature changes, or maybe from not being used in a long time. if you have penetrating lubricant or WD40, it might be worth putting some in to see if it'll help. Hope this helps, thanks.

To loosen; turn hex clockwise. Tighten: turn hex counterclockwise. Opposite of conventional practices. Why? Who knows.

How do you prevent the top of the monitor from tilting forward? There isn't a gas adjustment for that piece. I can't seem to tighten it any more than it already is. It's ok for a session at the computer but in the morning I find it tilted forward significantly.

BEST ANSWER: Hi, there is a bolt at the top joint that should allow for tightening vertical tilt joint using a hex wrench. Make sure the nut is inside the cutout so it doesn't spin when you tighten the bolt. If you have already adjusted this but it is not holding, it's possible that additional thread locker might be needed so the bolt does not back out on its own or when the monitor is adjusted. Hope this helps.

Hi, I've owned this monitor a couple of years and I am having exactly this problem now. The bolt doesn't adjust the tension anymore.
I know it is no longer under warranty, but could you provide directions on what you mean by "additional thread locker" to stop the bolt from "backing out on its own"?

on Oct 18, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi, product #3402 would work but please check that the monitor you plan to use is within the maximum weight of 19.8 lbs. The larger VESA sizes are usually used for heavier screens, so if you're using a monitor with 200x200, just confirm the weight specs. Thanks for checking.

How do I adjust the bottom arm next to the clamp? It's not moving.
A shopper
on Jul 24, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi, the bottom joint might have seized up from not being used after assembly at the factory. You could try moving just the bottom arm using steady force from the far end area of the bottom arm to try to rotate. If it isn't budging, you could try loosening the bolt/screw that is securing the bottom arm.

Are you talking about adjusting the hex bolt on the underside of the of the 360° swivel? I wasn't sure that could be adjusted as it's really, really tight. Any tips or tricks to get it moving? If I'm not careful I almost knock the lamp off the table every time I move the monitor.

It depends on the size of your desk. You can get the center of the monitor about 32" from the center of the edge of the desk. Is that far enough? You won't have much adjustability, though.

How much clearance does the arm need to the back of the desk or to a corner ?
A shopper
on Sep 12, 2023
BEST ANSWER: You can probably get it close to 2.5-3" depending on where you have it located/attached to your desk. I have mine mounted to the back of a standing desk to the right side of my desktop on an angle. In. my case, you'll see that it's about 4.25" but that's not due to the design of the arm - it's more about how close I have my desk to the wall behind it. Here are some pictures of my configuration - hope it helps.

The base is clamped on to the back edge of my desk and it sticks out about an inch. You can also mount it by drilling a hold in the desktop (this hardware was included). I have the arm adjusted flush with the back of the desk. The max overhang if I pushed the arm straight back is about 8 inches.

Going to be using potentially 2 of these. One with a LG 29UB55-B Ultrawide Monitor, 11lbs without the stand, and a 27" Acer Monitor. What would the minimum thickness of desk be that I can use to clamp onto? I'm looking at one that's around 1/2-1" thick and I want to be certain that is going to be sufficient.

Is there enough clearance from the desk to be able to rotate a 32 inch monitor 90 degrees to portrait mode?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. Yes, you should have no issues being able to have a 32" monitor rotate 90 degrees to portrait mode. However, you may run into issues depending on the location of the mounting holes on your monitor. I would recommend raising it to its highest point to ensure it clears the desk. I hope this helps.

Love it! Great arm.
Working great for my Apple Studio Display. As others have mentioned, you really need to tighten one or both of the bolts to get the arm to properly balance with whatever display you are attaching. Not difficult. The arm is quality, makes no noise, and very adjustable. Looks nice too. Get it!

Surprisingly works exactly as expected!
I didn't expect this to work as effortlessly as it does. Its finicky to adjust the tension on the tilt bolt, it's gotta be much tighter than you'd expect for a 20lb monitor. Note if you're using this on a thin desk that every little bump and movement may contribute to the screen bouncing around. I use a door slab and now using a desk mounted steering wheel for racing games makes the screen bounce around quite a bit. Not an issue with the mount, just the nature of the mounting method.

Best arm for the dollar
Fits my 34" gigabyte ultra wide monitor. Be aware that you need to screw down allot for bigger heavier screens. Hold quite nice but there is a tad bit of play on the screen to arm mounting area. For the price can't beat it tho.
