Can this output 4 different inputs to 4 different outputs? Also, can it take 1 input and display it to 4 outputs?

BEST ANSWER: I only have three inputs and two outputs currently, but I believe the answer is yes. I can send different inputs to different outputs simultaneously, or can send a single input to multiple outputs simultaneously. Owned the matrix for most of a year now and I'm still very happy with it.

As for the first question, yes it can take the inputs from four different sources (we used 3 DirecTV boxes and an AppleTV) and you can select which of the outputs you want which input to feed. Moreover, it easily can let you take one input, say the AppleTV and send it to all four outputs. Hope this helps. Terry

Yes, and Yes. Yes, it can connect 4 different inputs to 4 different outputs. Yes, I can connect 1 input to all 4 outputs at the same time. And yes, all the combinations in between.
And yes, it handles 4K content just fine.
It was the answer to many, many problems for me.

BEST ANSWER: No, you're looking for a device with video wall functionality. A matrix switch does "any input to any display"; a video wall does "one input to a group of displays acting as a single virtual display". Most video wall processors do matrix switching, but unless you see the words "video wall" in the description, you shouldn't expect that from a matrix switch.
That said, this seems to be a great price for this type of product.

These 4x4 Matrixes are superb for home use! I have youtube studio in development. I have three 4x4 Matrixes interconnected in which I can show and one video source to 8 different screens in any combination that fits my need.
From my pcs, I am running from the hdmi and dual ports into 2 4K monitors which can be switched back and forth between HDMI 1 and HDMI2. Also, my blu-ray player can broadcast to all 8 screens.
These matrixes are fabulous for the price.

In short, yes it comes with 'ears'. However, the unit is only about 10 inches wide so it can't be mounted in a standard rack. Also the 'ears' mount to the unit facing downwards so that it can be screwed down to a shelf.
It would be nice if Monoprice included dimensions of products along with the accessories that come with it.

It does come with brackets for the side. I'm not sure I'd consider them rack ears. The box itself is only about 10.5" wide. My rack is 19", so I don't think I could mount the box. With that said, so far it works great. Very pleased.

When displaying the same input to multiple output monitors, is there any discernible lag or will all the monitors be in sync?
Zak E
on Oct 1, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I have run input lag tests using this switch and there is no detectable lag between same-model monitors which are set to the same input. Keep in mind that individual monitor models each have their own input lag after they receive the signal from switch. This can affect display sync in situations where you're using different model displays for your outputs.

Do I have to do the RS-232 stuff if I'm just using it as a 4 X 4 switch?
A shopper
on Aug 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, you do not have to use the RS-232 serial interface. That is just for when you want to control the switch via computer.
We use one of these 4x4 switches in manual mode, just using the push-buttons on the front. Alternatively, you can use the small handheld remote control that comes with it.

Based on my use and experience with the switch, the answer is no. You can either switch it manually by hand or use the included remote. I have a IR blaster on mine and it is being controlled by a Wi-Fi remote sending commands through the hub back to this switch.

Is there a delay when switching? Does the screen go blank during switching?
Paul R
on Nov 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes and yes. There is a blanking period when switching between inputs. There is also a slight flight delay through the box. I would estimate that at ~50ms.
The switching delay is caused by the HDMI serial link needing to re-aquire the data stream.

Yes, the screen goes blank during the switching. This in not the seamless version, but only the switch version. Works perfect for what it's bought, just creating different zones. The EDID works perfect, the cable provider blocks multiple tv's on one HDMI. That is no problem anymore.

I just ordered this so I should get it next week so I haven't tried it yet but doing some Googling I might have found the RS232 codes.
I cannot add a link so google this and it should give only 1 result to a PDF file: Command_codes_for_LINDY_38152
It looks very much like the same product just branded differently, so I will try next week when I get it and respond here if they work.

The codes in the Command_codes_for_LINDY_38152 doc do in fact work. There's a python implementation of the spec at github dot com /seanwatson/hdmi-matrix-controller

Will this allow for 4 different TV's to receive any one of the 4 inputs (xbox, cable, PS3 etc...) at the same time? For example, TV1 could be using the xbox, TV2 the cable box, TV3 the PS3 all at the same time. Just want to make sure before I purchase it, thanks.

what is maximum HDMI cable length to remote TV locations?
Michael P
on May 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. It would more so depend on the HDMI cable that you are using. For instance, a passive HDMI cable will be able to send a high speed signal up to 25 feet if the gauge of the cable is 22AWG. If you are looking to use longer than 25 feet, it would be recommended to use Active HDMI cable. Such as our Cabernet Ultra or Luxe Active HDMI cables.

Will this support 4 outputs of different resolutions or do you have to use the lowest value? For example could I have one tv at 1080P, one at 1080I, and one at 720P or will all have to be at 720P?

on May 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. You can use the EDID selector on the side of the unit to select between different resolutions for the output or have the unit auto detect. When auto detecting it will select the common resolution that is supported.
Should you use the RS232 function and have it controlled via a PC. You would be able to copy the EDID information from one of the outputs to "set" it to a selected input or all the inputs. As described in the user manual on page 16.

This Switch Still Works!
I've owned 2 Monoprice 4 x 2 HDMI switches before this 4 x 4. Both of them failed in one way or another before too long. One never worked completely correctly. The other failed to receive and execute remote commands within a couple of months. I continued the use the second one for a few years, though I had to go on hands and knees in front of my A/V cabinet and push buttons on the front of it to get what I wanted on the two outputs.
This one has worked perfectly from the beginning about 5 months ago and continues to do so today. It responds to remote signals from my Logitech Harmonies with great alacrity.
My wife can switch from the satellite receiver to the streaming box and back with ease, which pleases her. And that pleases me a lot. It switches in the Blueray player, too. Everything works from any of the three remote TVs connected via Monoprice's HDMI over Coax units I reviewed before.
I don't have 4K from any source or at any monitor, so I can't swear to that, but 1080p and 1080i work great everywhere. The switching and HDMI syncing are reliable and fast.
I bought my unit on and open-box special, and it is nonetheless reliable for it.
