HDMI switches should work with any HDMI cable you have. The number of wires is always the same. The different HDMI schemes are mostly to define how to use the data that is transmitted, but the cable itself does not change - only what the data being carried means to equipment on either end. So the answer to your question is YES.

It should not be a problem. The ends are the same. HDMI 1.4 is theoretically slower than HDMI 2.0. Most articles I have read say this may be a marketing myth until speeds get much faster.

It claims to switch to a live input, but I've found that with my Google Chromecast, it sometimes doesn't recognize that I've turned on the TV. My version came with an infrared sensor and teensy remote that makes it easy to manaully selelct the input without having to muck around behind my equipment.

It does. Some devices don't behave properly though. For example, my Roku insists on always having its power on, so the switch will see that and want to switch to it. You usually can mitigate this by choosing which devices are on which inputs, since there is an inherent priority to them.

Yes it defaults to the one that is on but if you turn on another input it automatically switches. Only problem I have had is with firestick as you have to unplug it from the hdmi port to get it to change over. I assume cause there is no off for the firestick.

Will this connect to a PC video card via HDMI. Radeon 7700 series? Output to Samsung TV.
Geoffrey R
on Nov 17, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Type of Video card is likely not a factor. If it has HDMI OUT and your TV has HDMI IN, then this will do the trick. However, if you are only going from your Video Card to the TV and that is it, then you don't need this device- you can simply use an HDMI cable to go from one to the other. This device would allow you to have up to 3 devices seen through your TV (e.g. xbox, roku, etc) using a single HDMI IN on the TV. HTH.

Unit would not switch between inputs either with the direct connect switch on top of the box or with the remote. Called and started a RMA return of the item . That process was very easy. Have sent unit back and I'm now awaiting for the new item to be delivered.

Wonderful little device with automatic switching
Working great so far. Currently in use to switch between a desktop computer and streaming device on a Samsung TV. Automatic switching is a helpful feature and obviates my need to use the included IR blaster and remote.
I would have preferred a material other than plastic for the housing but it is not a dealbreaker since I have it tucked away inside a desk.
I am definitely going to stick with Monoprice for any and all future HDMI switch needs and fully endorse this product for basic household applications.
I would have preferred a material other than plastic for the housing but it is not a dealbreaker since I have it tucked away inside a desk.
I am definitely going to stick with Monoprice for any and all future HDMI switch needs and fully endorse this product for basic household applications.

The automatic switching is not great. When I turn on my Nintendo Switch, it triggers the TV to turn on, but doesn't actually switch the Blackbird to the correct input.

Works extremely well. Switches automatically version sources with no issue. Needed extra HDMI ports on my projector.

Worked well for 2 years, then bad video
My soundbar only has one HDMI input and output, used this device to attach a Roku and Tivo. It worked great for 2 years, until recently when it is introducing snow/crackles into the video. It is definitely the switch, all items work great with the same cables when the switch is bypassed. I guess I can't complain for the price.

Compact and user friendly.
Compact and lightweight. Auto switches inputs when it senses HDMI activity.

Missing IR receiver
My HDMI switch (product # 15262) is supposed to include an IR receiver but it did not. I tested the switch and it seems to work. But since the IR receiver was missing, I could not test the remote to see if it's working. Also, when I press buttons on the remote, they don't light up so I don't know if the battery in it is working (yes, I did remove the plastic cover from the battery compartment).
Lastly, I thought the switch would be powered by an AC adapter plugged into a wall outlet. Instead it's powered by USB. I wonder if the current will be strong enough for all purposes.
