The description says it grabs power from the HDMI bus but, some people are saying that it needs an adapter. The pictures don't show a place for one. Is there a barrel jack for 5v input?

Is the picture displayed simultaneously on both displays? I am looking to display the same image on two TV's that are mounted on the same wall. Any delay in picture between the two wouldn't work well in this situation. So, I'm looking for something to display the same image at exactly the same time. Thanks!

BEST ANSWER: This device is what I use to duplicate video from the computer to the local monitor and a video projector.
There may be a slight delay in the video but that sometimes is determined by the device you are connecting to?
Once everything is snyced up the video is exactly the same on the monitor and the video projector.
We have this splitter in use on over 100 multimedia carts and it works good for us.

The splitter delivers the signal simultaneously to both outputs. It's for you to determine whether differing connecting cable lengths and different signal processing of your two TVs might introduce a delay. For me, the very reasonable price of the splitter (and the availability of return if it didn't work) made it a safe bet. So why not give it a try?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by 'dragging'. You can view the same thing on both monitors. The purpose of this pigtail is to split a 4K signal. For example, if you have 2 monitors (a TV and projector) and want to use a source with one HDMI out (a 4K BluRay player) you can watch a 4K movie on either of the monitors or both. The attached HDMI cord goes into the HDMI out of the source component. You will need 2 extra HDMI cables for outputs 1 &2.

This does not add a secondary monitor to the computer. It just duplicates the image as other have stated. I use this to share one cable box to two different TVs on separate rooms. Since there is nobody else to watch TV I got one of these along with an IR extender to be able to watch TV and control the cable box from either room using one and the same cable box.

I want to hook this up to a 32" 1080p TV and a 4K TV. Will the 4K TV be able to run 4K while the 1080p TV runs 1080p? Or will both TV's have to run the same resolution?

on Apr 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This is merely a distribution amplifier, not a scaler, so the same signal gets sent to both. Depending on how it handles EDID (I'm not sure) and what order displays are connected, the best case is that both get 1080p video, but you may see 4K video on your 4K display and a "unsupported format"-type message on the other.

The splitter is going to send signal that it is given it cannot send a 4K signal to a 1080P, the 1080P will receive only what it can handle, namely 1080P.

BEST ANSWER: No - This is a one -way splitter. It splits the active signal into two active signals. It would not be able to process two signals, nor would it be able to "choose" which signal to view on your TV. You need a video selector switch. No, you want a switch, not a splitter. This goes in the opposite direction: splitting a single source (like a cable box output, or a security system monitor ouput) such that it can go to two monitors.

My Xbox One is in an AV rack in the basement office and connects to a Denon AVR which connects to my Samsung TV in the Living room upstairs via HDMI extender. The kids use the Xbox on the TV upstairs but I use it on my 34” monitor in my office. Right now if i want to use my monitor in the basement I have to manually unplug the HDMI cable going into the Denon and plug it into my monitor. Will this device let me have it connected to both the Denon avr and my monitor, WITHOUT it playing on both screens at the same time? I’d like to be able to switch from one to the other when needed but don’t want it to play on both at the same time.

Perhaps a typical scenario would be helpful such as with a typical cable box, game system, or CCTV? So if adding a long leg to a cable box to mirror screen in another room, say 40' away, would this device suffice or better off with a powered switch?
I think that is the question: there are cheaper simple splitters on monoprice so how is this one better (other than coming with a pigtail and leds)?
Description says it "draws enough power from hdmi" but doesn't say to do what? light the LEDs or boost signal?

Hello, I just received this item and hooked it up from my Dish Network Satellite Receiver.when my Home theater is connected via HDMI directly to the Dish receiver, it receives Dolby 5.1 surround d sound. However, with this splitter connected it connects at PCM 2.0. It was to my understanding that I shouldn't lose video and sound quality with this adapter. What I was wondering is I noticed there is a power connector for the device, but it did not come with a plug to connect to power. If I got a power supply for this unit, would the audio quality improve?

can this be used to split the output from a Tivo Mini to an AVR and a TV? I see that somebody used it to split the Tivo output to two TVs, is it any different for an AVR?
Somebody commented that for splitting their Brighthouse cable box to an AVR and a TV it required the power adapter. Not sure if the Tivo Mini is any different.
If it matters, the AVR is an Onkyo TX SR876 and the TV is one of the last Samsung DLP units HL61A750

Does this also split the sound? Want to send to a TV in another room and need both video and audio.

BEST ANSWER: HDMI will always carry both. That's one of its biggest advantages. Only one cable to carry both audio and video. I had to replace my old cable box recently that only had component video and the new one has HDMI. A single HDMI cable replaced FIVE cables that my old box needed to the TV.

I was not as lucky as some of the reviewers. Someone please tell me where to buy a power supply? It shows the specs but not the size of the barrel (and it is very small). I searched everywhere to find the size with no luck. Before I return it please help...

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
Unfortunately we would not sell a power supply that would be the correct size but if you were to purchase a 5V universal power supply it would likely have the right sized barrel you are looking for.

Bought this and probability of this working on the spot was slim to none. I need suggestions for a good 5v power cable if these folks don't sell one? :(

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
We would not sell a power adapter you can use.
However, so long as the one you pick up is 5V 500mA then it should help you get the power you are looking for.

BEST ANSWER: I'm sorry to hear that, it sounds like it may be a compatibility issue. I would recommend testing the splitter on a cable box or dvd/bluray player to ensure you do not have a defective item.

Neither the product manual or the not so "Full Specs" say what the connection on USB power type/size is, nor is it viewable in the images given. I see in the comments "barrel connector" but no size. Is it typical 2.1mm x 5.5mm DC Connector? or what?

Looking on Amazon I was able to deduce that if there is not enough USB power that you can connect it to a 5v 500ma AC Power adapter with a 2.1 mm tip (+) and 5.5mm barrel (-) Can someone please confirm this?

Has anyone used this with an iPhone AV Adapter (MD826ZM/A)? I'm contemplating setting up headrest monitors in my vehicle and would like to be able to serve synced video from an iPhone/iPad. I'm questioning if that'd carry the necessary bus power, or if I'd need to get one of the 5v powered boxes.

These were tested with a direct connection from a source device to a display so we cannot guarantee it would work if you were to use an adapter to connect it to your phone.

No drama
Exactly what I needed to split HDMI (one to TV, one to bluetooth transmitter). Didn't need external power supply. No signal loss. Supports 4K.

Add second HDMI out to source
Works well for providing an audio and video output from a device with only one HDMI output (Roku) this is allowing me to now have 4K throughput to my HT projector

Signal Cuts Out
This unit is advertised as not needing a power supply as it claims to draws its needed power from the HDMI bus. However, my unit has signal distortion and drop-outs, seemingly because of a lack of power.
I would like to add a power supply to this unit to see if that fixes my issue. However, the unit has a barrel connector for its power socket and neither the product listing nor the user manual indicate what size of plug is compatible with this product.
If Monoprice could point me to where I could acquire such a power supply I could plug this splitter in to a power source and that might fix the problems I've experienced with this splitter. Till then, I must reluctantly label this product as incapable of performing its designated task.

HDMI-2 splitter looks good and works
This unit should offer a USB power cable as an option since the power socket is not USB standard, but is a pin jack. In most cases there is sufficient power from the two HDMI units that are attached when both are turned on.
